The Crowne Plaza Liverpool John Lennon Airport Hotel garners praise for its Art Deco flair and historically rich, aviation-themed ambiance, captivating guests with its elegance. Many find the rooms clean and comfortable, while the proximity to amenities and the airport enhances its appeal. Though the hotel's amenities, including cozy beds and a commendable breakfast, are well-received, some guests have noted renovation disruptions.
Service experiences vary, with many finding the staff attentive, despite occasional lapses in responsiveness. Opinions on value also differ, with some guests questioning the cost versus service received.

Detailed Reviews
This building is steeped in history when it opened in 1930 as the original Airport Terminal building.
The theme throughout the hotel is the fabulous art deco architecture. The hotel has lots of charm and character whilst being contemporary.
The staff are so welcoming and friendly whilst remaining professional at all times.
We were upgraded to an executive room with king size bed, mini fridge, large flat screen TV, usual complimentary tea, coffee, water and biscuits.
Complimentary toiletries are replenished daily, their is also an iron and mini safe in executive rooms.
The place was scrupulously clean, the beds are really comfortable and the hot buffet breakfast was delicious, plenty of choice, all items constantly replenished and lots of choice for healthier ranges too.
If you stay and leave your car at the airport then you can benefit by looking for Best available rate with car parking on its own website, once booked the hotel will arrange a complimentary taxi to pick you up and drop you off, you can choose to pay just £3.00 drop off fee at airport terminal entrance or ask for drop off at free zone.
Would definitely stay here again, highly recommended.

We booked this hotel direct rather than through a third party to get the best price. Beware if you ring through IHG (the hotel group) call centre telephone number the you will likely be charged more. This hotel is actually around 10 minute taxi ride from Liverpool airport (the taxi cost £8-10 each way).
The hotel itself met our needs. The bedroom was spacious, clean and comfortable. We didn’t eat breakfast as we had an early morning flight but we ate within the hotel. You can expect to pay hotel prices for food and drink but it is good quality.
We paid for the park and fly package to leave our car at the hotel while we were away. When doing this your will need to enter your vehicle registration at the screen at reception upon arrival otherwise you will be fined. The car park is covered by CCTV and your vehicle will remain where parked up.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
We booked very last minute due to family circumstances and after a major effort on the part of the very pleasant and sympathetic young receptionist, we were allocated a beautiful large room.
The beds were very comfortable and the bed linen spotless and soft and very high quality.
A couple of side lamps were not working and the duty manager? came along after the young barmaid met us in the corridor and promised us she would advise reception of the problem. I later went to the bar and the same employee gave me a little wine cooler of ice for the water in the room.
Although the manager could not correct the fault as he suspected it required maintenance staff input, he checked out the fault as best he could and apologised for the inconvenience.
The next morning, the same charming and professional duty manager and lovely, helpful barmaid were on breakfast duty. The hotel was fully booked so breakfast service was very busy.
I was extremely impressed by the Covid / hygiene policies to minimise handling of utensils and the prewrapping of breads, croissant and patisserie, juices. . The restaurant staff were in short supply and working so, so hard to provide a great service to so many of us. The croissant and butters and jam selection, filter coffee, were top quality. I saw a whole separate little area for gluten free products , too. The cooked breakfast was plated by lovely staff and served on piping hot plates ( great!).
A very pleasant housekeeper met us just before we left and another wonderful receptionist helped us conclude our visit.
Im not sure of anyone's names but honestly, what fantastic and genuine hospitality and customer care we received in such trying times. Sadly, I saw and heard some quite demanding customers.

We booked for a wedding group to stay for the weekend, we checked several times prior to arrival to confirm our booking, obviously on arrival the receptionist said they had no record of our booking, I then handed her the paperwork that she had given me 2 weeks beforehand to confirm! We were told our rooms were ready, we followed the smell of vomit that lingers in the hotel to ourrooms, to find free gifts such as empty takeaway boxes, warm bottles of half drunk beer and unmade beds. We then went back to reception to fine the area installed as our stay continued we realised that the receptionist was also the manager, chef, cleaner, porter and barmaid. Between our guests we could write a book about our time here... the positive being I lost 6 pounds due to the heat in my room which allowed me to fit into my wedding suit.

We travelled as a family of four and arrived at 6 o'clock on Friday evening to be told the air con was broken and we could "check in - or not!" Given that we'd struggled to book a hotel back in early May there was no alternative to stay anywhere else at such short notice unless we wanted to pay £1000 a night. We were stuck here for two nights. We were also advised that there would be no reduction in the bill since it was out of their control.
No fans were available to cool our room as they'd already been given out and we'd have to make do with opening our 'sash' window.
On arrival back to the room on Saturday night after a day out, we discovered that a prom party was taking place directly opposite our room. As there was no aircon, the function suites doors were wide open and therefore the music was blaring. We were unable to close our window because of the heat and I had two children unable to sleep until the music was eventually turned off at 11:30.
I ventured to reception on that evening asking if anything could be done, the room was stifling, we had one fan (obtained eventually!) between four and a disco playing out. I was told that there was no alternatives and therefore I once again reiterated that I wouldn't be paying full price for the room. The night receptionist assured me that my card wouldn't be charged until the issues were discussed the following morning and resolved.
The following morning, breakfast was even more chaotic. Queues of 15 people waiting to enter the breakfast area, bearing in mind you are required to book a time slot the night before. They ran out of bottled water and were running out of orange juice. Tables weren't cleared and it was a shambles. Not what you expect from a supposed 4 star hotel.
On check out, it was discovered that my card had in fact been charged the full rate of £198 for two nights. I asked if a discount could be taken and was told by the receptionist that she was the duty manager and there was nothing that could be done. The customer service was appalling.
After perseverance and a request that she speak to someone higher, another 'duty manager' appeared and we were ushered to the bar to discuss further. After a further half an hour we were offered a £40 refund though it was a fight to get this.
Whilst I realise the breakdown of air conditioning is beyond their control, good customer service is not and there is no reason people should be expected to pay full price when the services they have paid for are far from acceptable. Companies this size have insurances to cover lost revenue owing to faults such as this.
We were advised that the air conditioning won't be fixed for another 6 weeks. I sincerely hope the hotel is doing the decent thing and contacting all reservations within this time frame to explain the situation and give them the CHOICE as to where they want to make alternative arrangements. A choice we didn't have.
Huge efforts need to be made in training the staff and increasing resources in order to deal with these issues more effectively.

Have always thought of staying here because of the history & style of the building. The building & decor are impressive albeit the room furnishings are a little tired. However, bar the lovely welcome to our stay on the Sunday of the BH weekend, the place was a mess. There didn’t seem to be enough staff (or those there weren’t motivated) to keep the bar clear of dirty glasses or to clear tables of dirty plates. We did not eat there, a blessing as obviously some of those that did waited a while for their order. Breakfast the next day was good quality (& the staff more professional) but it was served in a function room where most of the tables were very long, set for 12-16 people. It felt like having breakfast in a conference centre. All in all a very bizarre stay. Only the second time I have not been sent a survey to complete by IHG Hotels after a stay out of hundreds of visits. I suspect contracts with airlines is keeping this franchise hotel afloat. Leisure travellers would be advised to try somewhere else!

Stayed here as a family of 4 for 2 nights and we won't be rushing back sadly. The temperature of the room at night is ridiculous, no air con and I don't even know how it was so hot as it wasn't particularly warm outside! Could barely sleep due to the heat. Staff were nice and helpful, really friendly but lots of parts of the hotel are looking run down and in need of some attention. Scuffs on walls and furniture and no bedside table or glasses, no handsoap or teaspoon in our room. Only 2 towels for 4 people, cot wasn't ready on arrival and had to wait for about 45 minutes for one which isn't great at 7.30pm with a tired 1 year old.
Don't even try to get through to guest services or reception as no-one answers the phone. I ended up calling the hotel number from my mobile and then they answered!
Got room service which arrived in just under half an hour, was quite nice although not very hot.
We were planning on getting breakfast at the hotel but they wanted £15.95 per adult and £8 for a child which we thought was a bit steep especially as our youngest is only a 1 year old.
The bed was comfortable and the travel cot was nice and the shower was fairly powerful. Unfortunately there are so many aspects of this hotel especially the heat in the rooms that are bringing the place down. We stayed here just over 2 years ago and the air con was non existent then too so it doesn't seem like they're planning on installing it anytime soon. The reception area is lovely and the decor is really nice and has character unlike some other hotels but sadly if they don't sort out the air con and the other issues we won't be returning.

I expect a little more from a Crown Plaza. It's simple. I think it is meant to be a rung further up the ladder for quality and experience on the IHG hotel list. Not this one!
As it happens I wanted a hotel in the city but prices were through the roof because Liverpool were playing at home over the weekend. Therefore, this hotel suited my price range over the weekend. I was working in Liverpool so the hotel is only a place to put my head down after a long day working. I do expect it to be clean though!
Check in was efficient and friendly. I was given the usual IHG rewards member greeting. On heading to the room we noticed a row of empty bottles and glasses outside our door and also opposite. It resembled the remains of a outdoor festival when everybody had gone home! Given the glasses were outside our room we assumed somebody had either given us the wrong room or there had been a very late check-out for the previous guest so house keeping had gone home first. I actually do think house keeping had gone home because the room was filthy. There were crisps on the carpet so it had not been hoovered proberly, if at all. The dust and grime in the bathroom was beyond filthy. Anyway, you get the picture. It was a late check-in we were tired and had to work at 6am the following morning so it's what it was. Only other issue we had was we could never use the room key without going back to reception and re-coding it! I wouldn't got back to this hotel under any circumstances. It just felt grubby and dirty. It reminded me of the Adelphi in the city. I understand it's a older building and had the grandeur and feel of one, but it just needs a clean every now and then!
If you using the airport and need a quick, cheap night before or after a flight it's probably worthwhile. But not for me.
Pros
Convenient for Airport travel
Fairly reasonable rates
Parking
Historic old airport building
Cons
Staff look stressed (probably due to complaints)
Dirty rooms

There were good and bad points about this hotel.
We loved the Suite that we had booked and I don't think there is a better Suite in the UK at any Crowne Plaza.
However, the Club Lounge lets the place down, badly. If you are used to a Club Lounge, you will be disappointed by the Club Lounge here. There is only tea and coffee available, during the day.
The drinks and Canapés should be 5.30pm to 7.30pm, but when we went out at 5.55pm, there was still no sign of them. The manager did offer to leave drinks and snacks in our room, which they did, which was a nice touch.
When we went to get breakfast in the Club Lounge, which we normally use, as I am not a fan of breakfast, we found just drinks and one Croissant. A sign said Hot Breakfast downstairs and the times breakfast is served in their Skyways Restaurant. Yet, the sign on the Club Lounge door said Hot Buffet. My husband queried this and was told we could purchase breakfast for £10 each per day.
In the afternoon, we went to have a drink in the Club Lounge. We are used to finding soft drinks in other Club Lounges, there but there was nothing in this one. I went to give feedback to reception and was told the Club Lounge was closed, which seemed weird. I was also told we should be given breakfast vouchers and not have to pay for them and that someone would contact me later...........no one did. I was also given two drinks vouchers.
When we came in,that evening, we queried this and were told the information I had been given was wrong, everyone had to pay for breakfast but that she would check with a manager and come back in the morning. In the morning we were told no manager had replied but we were allowed to go for breakfast, as we couldn't get in the Club Lounge.
The staff at this hotel make it, Lorraine in the Bar and Restaurant is excellent and an assets to the place. Stephen was also very good recommending restaurants in Manchester for us. Finally Sophie is an asset on reception.
To sum up the Suite is amazing, the staff are great but stay on the basis that there is no Club Lounge, that way you won't be disappointed.

We stay here every August without fail. The staff here are the salt of the earth & can't do enough to make you relax & enjoy your stay. From arrival, the professional & lovely receptionists take time to explain their new hygiene processes & patiently answer any questions. The bar staff are super & chat to you like old friends. Special thanks to Mourad for going above & beyond, just like the rest of the team whose names I haven't got right now but I'll post their names later. The hotel is full to capacity & that should tell you how popular it is. Breakfast was delicious & we're so glad we came back to our reliable & comfortable hotel here in Liverpool. I hope the hotel's management team read this review as they should be very proud of their team who have pulled things round during this challenging period. I would encourage anyone thinking of visiting Liverpool, to choose this hotel. We're staying in room 017 which is on the ground floor & very quiet. Its too far to walk, about 45 minutes as the hotel is in the old terminal building which is no longer attached to the airport. There is no shuttle service. There is the 86A bus which goes as far as the shopping centre opposite the hotel (5 minute walk) , tricky with luggage. 10 minutes by taxi.
Its no longer listed on the hotel website, but the website has other errors, such as £6.00 parking charge which is not true, free if you register at reception. So best to ring the hotel, the staff are very helpful.
Directly opposite is the 'New Mersey Shopping park' which has several eateries and a cinema, you should find something there. Be aware the Marks and Spencer food hall has now permanently closed.
