Michael and his female coworker (who’s name I did not manage to get) were both absolutely lovely on reception. So warm and welcoming, so friendly and helpful. We felt comfortable and safe knowing that if we had any problems they’d both do all they could to help us, but fortunately we had no problems at all.
The room was great, comfy beds ands LOADS of storage room. Plenty of clean white towels and more than enough essentials in the room. The only slight criticism I could make is there’s a few design faults in the room, a couple of doors didn’t shut properly, the light switches weren’t placed where you think they’d be and a few marks and scratches on the walls and surfaces from years of wear. There was also no mirror at the desk meaning it couldn’t of been used as a make up table, my girlfriend had to sit on the floor near the body length mirror to do her makeup instead which could be easily changed as the space on the wall opposite the desk was just filled with some unusual artwork.
Another thing I really liked is we paid an extra £10 to check in much earlier meaning we could get all our stuff unpacked and head out for the day. Even if you don’t want to do this you can leave your bags in a locked storage room they have at reception for free.
Will definitely stay here again
For ladies, it will be much better if there is a table or tray in bathroom to place the bottles
On check in we were told that due to COVID some items had been removed from the room, and that there there would only be 2 coat hangers. We were a little concerned what to expect. We had a premium suite on the 4th floor for 3 nights. Initially on entering we were quite pleased.
The room was large.
The kitchen was well equipped and there was enough utensils for you to be able to cook a reasonable meal. However we had booked for 2 people using the room and there was only one chair (at the dressing table / desk) so only one person can eat comfortably at a table. As a result other than making drinks we didn’t use the kitchen. We did have to clean baked bean juice (not ours) from the front of the kitchen top - not good but we had taken some of our own cleaning stuff due to COVID.
The bathroom was large and pleasant.
The bed pulls down from the wall into the living area and was pulled down when we arrived. We didn’t put it back up whilst we were there. This feature means the bed has unmovable wooden arms that come down the side of the bed, making getting in and out of the bed very unpleasant and I now have bruising on one of my thighs.
There is no welcome complimentary tea and coffee to get you settled in. There is a pod coffee maker (no pods supplied) which I found a bit strange and unnecessary when reception are telling you that items have been removed due to COVID.
There is no daily service to the room which I understand with it being an Aparthotel but be aware should you want your room cleaning there is a charge of £65.00!!!! There is also a charge for clean towels. The hotel does supply flimsy rubbish bags in the bin. At check in perhaps consider telling people who are there longer than 2 nights what to do with their rubbish, we left 3 bags.
I would describe the room as functional but not relaxing and comfortable. We checked out one night early ready for a personal appointment the following day because we would be more comfortable at home.
The Adagio reminds me of another chain of modern hotels that offer cheap rooms in large cities. We have usually paid about £30 to £40 a night for their rooms - this company charge you extra for basic services that you want to use.
The Adagio is in a fabulous location. For us it was functional. I would stop again but not for more than a couple of nights and certainly wouldn’t pay what we paid on this occasion.
I believe it is a fairly new hotel but it seems very tired.
Location
The hotel is very central (just at the top of the high street and opposite the station). It is situated in the upper floors of the former Lewis’s department store and as such has a spacious layout and good sound proofing.
Staff
The staff are multi-lingual, efficient & thoughtful (right through to the GM). Examples of good practice have been working with me to manage/minimise COVID travel restraints, collecting and storing my DHL parcels, printing work docs, acknowledging my birthday and even giving me a small birthday gift!
Amenities
As suggested in the title, this is a great central spot for a short stay - but its real strength is its ‘apartment style’ distinction and capacity for longer stays.
My room had a 2 plate hob, fridge/freezer, microwave/grill & a mini dishwasher. Crockery & cutlery are provided along with the basics like a kettle, toaster, safe & iron.
There is a gym, a coin operated launderette on the 2nd floor and ‘emergency food items’ (e.g. noodles, coffee, beer…etc) available for purchase at reception - which is manned 24hrs.
Thank you Adagio, for making what could have been a nightmare journey, into a pleasant stay :)
P.S. For anyone planning a longer stay I would recommend contacting reception in advance as I’m not sure if all rooms have the same facilities and rates are variable dependent on length of stay.
The room facilities were generally good and there is a huge fridge and microwave, hob, plenty of cutlery and plates. Its great if you want to cut costs on a family trip. Beds are comfortable and the sofa converts into two singles, which is a plus with two kids. We got extra pillows by asking at reception, as only one provided per person. It might be worth putting them in the rooms as there were others asking for them in reception.
The room is quiet enough with the windows shut, with them open you do get noise from the bars opposite, we don't mind this but you could ask to go on the other side of the building if this bothers you.
There were a couple of issues, the most serious was that one of the bedside lights had been snapped off leaving exposed electrical terminals. I assume a previous guest did this and unfortunately they balanced the shade back on so the first I knew of it was when my son knocked this off and it was lucky he did not touch the terminals - I have a disabled autistic child and also a five year old so this was a major concern. I will say when I reported it to reception it was replaced when we were out but rooms should be let in a safe state.
However other issues with the hotel I think indicate that the staff checking rooms need to be more thorough - before the lamp issue we found a half full can of cider and ash and what looked like the butt of a joint on the window sill behind the curtain. There is no excuse for not checking basic issues like this before rooms are let. I did get response when reporting this via Expedia, which is good to see and I hope rooms will be checked more thoroughly. There were also pieces of ripped wallpaper and lamps that needed straightening on their mountings.
The general state of the communal areas of the hotel needs some attention there was dirt on the floors by the lift, including used face masks, these were still there hours later. When I went to put recycling in the refuse room there were half full drink cups which hadn't been moved 4 days later, and by this time the room has been completely filled with waste bags.
We would stay here again so long as attention is given to these issues, none of which were evident from our previous stay, aside from the cleaning and maintenance problems this is a very well located and well equipped hotel.
Room was great for what we needed, and small kitchenette, we only used the fridge to store our drinks, and the kettle to make a few brews, tea, coffee etc... where already there.
Shower and toilet are separate, which was better for four females.
Beds were fine, I can't comment on the sofa bed as I didn't sleep on that, but it wasn't made up and all the bedding and pillows where in the wardrobe? (a bit strange, but no big deal!)
This aprthotel is in a perfect location for everything, and very central for train stations, bars, restaurants etc...
I would definitely stay here again and the price was really good!
We were checked in swiftly and given two rooms, one floor above the other. Had that not have been the case I would never have realised how much space there is between floors and it explains why we never heard anyone above or below us. I was also slightly worried to see that we had been allocated a room very close next to the door to the lifts, but during our stay we never heard any significant noise - some of the best soundproofing I have ever come across in a hotel.
The rooms are a very good size and have everything you need, although the safe is in a ridiculous location at the top of one of the cupboards. I am average height and could’t reach it without standing on a chair. Whoever decided that was the best location for the safes was either extremely tall, or simply didn’t care about design. Crazy. That aside, the bed is comfortable, but as it is designed to be a sofa as well, the solid arms either side of the bed (which undoubtedly make sense when it is in sofa mode) make it tough to get in and out if bed with ease. The bathroom is a good size and the shower was good. I also liked the fact that there was a drying line in the shower - we didn’t need it, but useful if you’re staying for a long time.
The gym is okay and doesn’t have a huge amount of equipment, but is fine if you want a short workout. We didn’t have breakfast in the restaurant, but my parents did and said it was fine, although they did not rave about it. Adequate is probably the best word they would use to describe it.
The location of the hotel is great if you want access to Liverpool One, restaurants and bars. All are close by. Unfortunately, there is no car park close by and it is about a five minute walk to the closest one, which is fine if you are travelling light, but with children/elderly or a lot of luggage it is a shame you can’t park closer or drop off with ease. That said, if you happen to arrive by train into Liverpool Central you couldn’t be closer!
We enjoyed our two-day stay here and I particularly liked having the kitchen so we could cook breakfast and lunch. I would certainly consider staying here again if I needed a longer stay in the city, but if I was just staying for a night I would probably pick the Novotel or Hilton over this hotel.
If you expect the Ritz pay for it as adagio is really good high quality room for a great value price.
The staff are awesome and friendly and will accommodate any issues with swift attention and they care about you as a resident
It's a home from home and I totally love the place rooms are not what you expect in a town centre hotel they are large and really well equipped.
Stayed in 3 hotels and this is by far best I have been in on a strict work budget
