The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Liverpool garners mixed feedback from its guests. While its central location is a highlight for many, offering easy access to local attractions and amenities, significant noise disturbances from the street and nearby clubs have been a concern for some visitors. Although the staff's friendliness and professionalism are often commended, instances of unresponsiveness mar the service reputation.
The hotel's rooms are frequently criticized for being outdated and lacking in comfort, with cleanliness and maintenance issues prevalent. Guests have also expressed disappointment with the value for money, particularly regarding overpriced services and the quality of the spa and rooms.

Detailed Reviews
Thought when a previous review said it was cold I thought it was an exaggeration, but no, it was freezing and I had goosebumps with the cold! I'm not exaggerating when I say I, as did my colleague, put a large bath towel on top of the quilt AND I put a hot kettle (no water obviously) in the bed before i got in to warm me up! Ridiculous. Either owner of Double Tree has not paid bills or they are just for company profit and not bothered about customers basic comfort of warmth as this issue obviously arose before. Not a cheap hotel so I'd expect heating to be on in this weather, maybe ditch the irrelevant cookie (that went in the bin by the way) and invest in your customer. Apart from thermal cold, atmosphere felt cold. On plus side room was nice, clean & spacious but colleagues room not so at all. Didn't eat in hotel restaurant so can't comment on that.

We had our wedding here on 10th January 2020, we were originally goinv to have it at another well known hotel around the corner but after endless let downs we decided to hold it at the Double Tree, this was the best decision we made. The setting was perfect and the staff were amazing from beginning to end, especially Becky our wedding co-ordinator who was always on hand. Tom who dealt with the luggage was brilliant, nothing was to much trouble including the endless trolleys of luggage and decorations which he took to the reception room for us. The reception room were the wedding was held and later where we had the sit down meal was perfect for the amount of people we had, the meal was also delicious. We had drinks in the library room bar later on which again was just right. A few of our guests stayed over and were happy with the accommodation and breakfast. What originally was turning out to be quite stressful due to the issues with the other hotel turned out to be an amazing day and evening thanks to all the dedicated and wonderful staff at the Double Tree. If you are looking for a wedding venue we would definately recommend here. We look forward to returning for a weekend which we intend to do in the near future.

We booked this hotel for our post Covid19 wedding anniversary trip to Liverpool. After mentioning a special occasion to the hotel in advance of our arrival, this resulted in not even a mention by hotel staff. Pre-booking the Spa facilities did not go too well either, where it was fully booked for our stay. The spa is not included in standard hotel stays. However, great central location, near the train station and walkable to many local interests and restaurants. 5 minute walk to the Cavern Club for Beatles fans. £100 ish a night, not worth it in my opinion.
Upon arrival, friendly and quick check in, with the Doubletree warm cookies. A standard king room booking through Expedia resulted in a standard double room without a view (unless you like ducting and air conditioning units). The room was small, toilet hidden behind the bathroom door but everything functional. Shower over bath great, but mechanical plug got stuck and the shower screen did not have a seal fixed to the bottom. Historic water leaks revealed the issues we would now experience. Not sure why this obvious problem has not been fixed by maintenance staff.
Covid19 restrictions means you need to ask for room servicing. We did ask and did not get. Until we asked again. And even then, shower gel was not replaced and the leak still not fixed.
Restaurant and bar was nicely laid out. If you leave breakfast to the last hour, the food was luke warm, and not fresh. Visiting earlier results in a breakfast worth the room cost. Bar staff friendlier than other staff. Nice cocktails here.
Checkout was functional, no receipt offered or received.
We have just stayed in a Hilton Doubletree in Greenwich and able to compare the Doubletrees like for like. Both around the same price per night. The Greenwich Doubletree hotel was by far more personable, more friendly, better laid out room, with a king bed size as booked, breakfast a la carte, fresher tastier food, no water leaks and we had no reason to make repeated requests to reception staff.
You get the singletree here. Functional but not special.

On New Years Eve my wife and I went to the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Liverpool expecting that we were going to have an enjoyable “Great Gatsby” themed evening.
The first thing that struck us was how cold the rooms were but we thought it would warm up as more people arrived, it did but every so often the room would cool down considerably as if someone had left a door open, my wife had to resort to wrapping her scarf around herself to keep warm.
We were directed through to the room which was tastefully arranged with tables for 10 people, we took our seat and waited for one of the waiting on staff to come around to take a wine or drinks order. This did not happen and I was forced to go through to the bar and order our wine there. This continued throughout the evening meaning if you wanted wine or drinks you had to leave the table, eventually some of the staff got the idea and checked if anyone wanted wine but not drinks. This is very poor practice and must restrict drinks sales for the hotel. The management should take note!
The meal started with “Jerusalem artichoke velouté with chestnut and truffle oil” which was a mix between a soup and a sauce, lukewarm but reasonably tasty.
The main was “Duo of beef with roasted sirloin and braised shine with fondant potatoes, winter vegetable, red wine jus”, again lukewarm and the beef was tough, a foreign gentleman at our table described it as “Chewing Gum”. Accompanied by a small portion of vegetables. A waiter came around with extra “Jus” and asked if anyone would like some then turned on his heels and disappeared before anyone could say yes.
The high point of the meal and dare I say the whole evening was the dessert, it was delicious, well presented and a good size.
For the money we paid for the tickets we were expecting the tea and coffee to be served at the table, oh no, it was left at the side of the room and it was “help yourself”.
When the meal was over, we prepared ourselves for the Great Gatsby act, unfortunately this consisted of a young couple dancing very energetically and then a young lady singing. When she started earlier, she sang several “gentle” types of song and her voice was pleasant but when she started getting into her act her high notes were no better than a screech which made the people on our table cringe. None of her songs came from the Gatsby era.
When we thought it could not get worse the disco came on and played nothing but modern songs accompanied by a heavy beat, by this time we were the only couple left on our table, everyone else had left. We could take no more so we left at 11.00 so much for New Year’s Eve.
This event could be described as many things but certainly not “Great Gatsby”, very disappointing to my wife who bought a 1920s style dress for the evening and the many other customers who had made the effort to come dressed in 1920s style. The only nod to “Great Gatsby” was the singer who wore a “Flapper” type dress and accessories.

Myself and friends travelled from Scotland to Liverpool for Hogmanay.
The hotel was lovely except a few issues, the shower door did not close and we reported this several times, I knew with it being new year it probably wouldn’t be fixed, so we asked for extra towels to use so we could stop us flooding the room.
This did not happen either so throughout the stay we could not use the shower so ended up using the bath which was not ideal for three women sharing one room. I would of expected to not even have to flag up a fault. I ended up also going to the spa to wash my hair as it was easier.
The room was above a function room so on our last night it was very noisy and not ideal for a good sleep before a drive home.
We also paid a lot of money to attend a gatsby ball for Hogmanay which we were very excited about, but this was a massive let down and rip off. If the meal had been great we might not have minded but it was not the case. As we also didn’t know Liverpool we had no where else to go.
There for zero atmosphere, a host who didn’t really care and a DJ who played only up to date songs. As soon as midnight was over the entertainment people were quick to exit without a goodbye leaving us to it.
The meal was half a bowl of luke warm soup then beef which everyone seemed to get different portion sizes off and a trio of desserts. The service wasn’t great with no side plates and people’s tea and coffee left on a table.
Our whole table thought the event wasn’t good with us and others leaving early. The room was so cold my friend had to ask for the heating to be put on and wear her coat.
From being at other Hilton Hogmanay events I was very excited but it was a huge let down. Having myself and my friends buying outfit especially to fit in we again wasted more money and so did other guests.
Having also sent feedback when asked to do so I got a email back with a simple sorry you didn’t enjoy the event, which was an awful response to someone complaining and spending a lot of money on a three night stay and so called GREAT gatsby ball.

Didn’t get the warm cookies on arrival you usually get at a Double Tree by Hilton.
Had a table booked for our evening meal at George’s near Liverpool One which was very good. Asked at hotel reception before leaving to go to George’s would the hotel bar be open when we got back which we expected to be about 9.30pm. We were told it would be but we could only have a drink with food which we expected with Liverpool being in Tier 2. This was fine with us. Left George’s after not over indulging expecting to have food and drinks back at the hotel bar. Arrived back at the hotel bar at 9.35pm. Waited to be seated and a very pleasant staff member asked if we were residents, we said we were , he took our room number and checked on the computer. He then explained to us we would have to have food to be able to have a drink which we expected. We said yes that’s fine, he then went and spoke to a few people who were stood at the bar, maybe a manager, I don’t know. He then told us the kitchen was closed so we couldn’t use the bar. However we could order room service,,, bazaar. We went to bed, disappointed. The hallways in the hotel didn’t look very clean and were in need of hoovering. Next morning went for breakfast and were very surprised to see it was a self service buffet breakfast which I really didn’t expect during a pandemic. Found the coffee machine didn’t work, a young lady attempted to fix it but in the meantime she suggested I had coffee out of a pot that was sat on the counter. Managed to squeeze a cup of mud out of the coffee pot. It must have been sat there for some time. There was a notice asking people to wear face masks when serving their breakfast and use napkins when handling the breakfast serving utensils. Some people did while others didn’t. We then saw a man coughing who didn’t have a mask on while stood next to the bread and the toaster. He then proceeded to wipe his nose and mouth with his bare hands and prepared himself some toast from the self service bread and toaster. He didn’t sanitise after coughing needless to say. Obviously I didn’t have bread or toast after seeing this. This is exactly why self service breakfast in my opinion is wrong when you are in the middle of a pandemic. The table I was sat at had been wiped down before we were seated at it but the material of the bench seat we were sat at was filthy with old food stains. You don’t expect to see the place dirty when you have literally just come out of a four week lockdown when the hotel was closed to the public giving plenty of opportunity for cleaning. I have stayed in Hilton hotels both in the UK and abroad, they are usually very good but this one was anything but. I won’t be booking there again thank you very much.

Responded 7 Apr 2021
Dear RH_RH2014 Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at Doubletree Liverpool. I am sorry to read that your stay fell below expectations. Covid-19 has seen a lot of restrictions and adjustments to how we do things in the hotel, and we are doing our best to maintain the same fantastic services and facilities that we usually do while keeping our guests safe. Your comments regarding breakfast have been passed to our senior management team for review. Best Wishes

Good location in central Liverpool near the shops, bars and restaurants. Easy to drive to (with sat nav) and parking is two blocks away in an NCP at a sensible price (£12) for a city centre location. There's a drop off space outside the hotel but beware of the traffic wardens that were handing out tickets both when we arrived and left so don't take any chances. Nice check in and room was large and unusual in shape and had a large bathroom with separate bath and shower. The hotel is nicely decorated with lots of quirky features. Not quite sure why this is branded as a Doubletree as it seems more interesting than most and could easily be a Hilton 'Curio Collection' hotel. Breakfast room was small and the food slightly better than the usual Hilton breakfast with fresh berries amongst other things. We stayed just one night (or football) and would stay here again.

Booked a one night stay in a Deluxe room as a special treat for Valentine’s Day and our 2 year anniversary. I chose this hotel for the spa facilities and because I wanted a little luxury. Check in was easy and we received a 2 delicious warm cookies and a bottle of water each on arrival. The room was lovely, large and immaculately clean, with a very big comfy bed, large walk-in shower and a good sized bath. The room also included coffee and tea making facilities, a hairdryer, toiletries and a fridge. The staff were all very friendly and polite and I could not fault them at all! The reason I have given a 4 star review rather than a 5 star review is because I booked a Deluxe room so that we had free excess to the spa. However, we were disappointed that the jacuzzi was not available to use - but these things happen! The lady on the main desk of the spa was very friendly and apologetic. I personally found the thermal pool too cold, so we only spent about 30 minutes in the spa in total. However, I still hope to return again one day. Thank you to all the staff for their help and service :) It is worth noting that the hotel sorts out a discounted price of £12 down from £25 for 24 hours if using the NCP car park.

My sister and myself were on a long weekend break with my mum. After booking the 3 night stay we also booked a spa package. I rang to confirm the spa a week before and asked to book afternoon tea before our treatment. We were told that they weren't serving afternoon tea yet When we arrived at the spa there were people having afternoon tea and we found that odd as we were told that food wasn't being served.
On getting up on Friday we had been told our room rate didn't include breakfast but we could order for £16 pp. We decided to go to wetherspoons instead and their breakfast and the service was fantastic.
On the Saturday, we left the hotel to have breakfast again at wetherspoons and go shopping at 10am and asked reception if our room could be cleaned as we had no toilet roll, no clean towels, our bin was overflowing and tea and coffee needed replenishing. On returning, there were people in the bar, having afternoon tea, so we went in for a cocktail and tried ordering one.
We were told the bar was closed. What sort of a hotel restricts the facilities on offer? I have never stayed in a hotel without an accessible bar and restaurant.
We went up to our room and surprise, surprise, it still hadn't been cleaned. At this point, my sister snapped and went downstairs to complain. She asked to see the duty manager but he wasn't available. The receptionist told her that rooms weren't cleaned until after 4pm???
She said were are we supposed to go while our room is being cleaned, we can't even sit in the bar.
My sister was livid and said we have no towels or toilet roll. At this point the duty manager appeared and she made a complaint about the shocking service we had received and said we would have received better in a cheap B and B. The manager offered us complimentary drinks in the bar whilst housekeeping went to our room.
On checking out on Sunday, we asked for an invoice and were surprised to find we had been charged for breakfast in our room rate. When I queried it, the receptionist said that was what we had booked so I said we were told on checking in on Thursday it wasn't included.
She went to see the duty manager who told her to refund us. Strangely we only received £6 pp per day. Yet had been told on Thursday the breakfast was £16 pp.
The whole experience was a shambles.
I wouldn't have been surprised if TV cameras had appeared with Ant and Dec and said we were on some new prank show, yet the reality was this seems to be the norm from the other reviews I have read since returning home.
As another reviewer has said, Hilton prices but with Pontins service.

Stayed for one night. Our room wasn’t ready when we arrived so we went to the bar and ordered a couple of drinks and some chips to nibble (we were not given the usual arrival cookie that you get from doubletree hotels). Unfortunately the ticket got stuck in the machine so the chips didn’t come until promoted but they were fine.
Our room was on the side with the beautiful old ornate elevator. We stayed on the fourth floor in what seemed like an attic room. No windows to look out of at eye level. There was a roof window with an automatic blind but this didn’t work. The room was so cold we had to ask for a heater, this came very quickly. The room was clean, a few signs of wear and tear but overall fine. Nice range of toiletries although hotels seem to have stopped with shower caps.
We were told on arrival that to use the spa we would have to pay £15 per person. Why advertise as a spa hotel if residents can’t actually use it without paying extra? I have never heard of this before.
Breakfast the next morning was fine, usual buffet so some of the items were cold even after sitting under the hot plate. The hot water pot had obviously also been used for coffee as the hot water tasted and smelled like coffee.
Check out went smoothly and we were able to leave our luggage at he hotel as we were not leaving the city until later.
The gentleman in charge of concierge where we left our bags after checking out didn’t seem to be very happy in his job and we were made to feel like we were a nuisance asking to retrieve out luggage.

I'm in agreement with the answer above... I would call the hotel re bedrooms but, to be honest, I would get breakfast away from the hotel and take in the city's morning atmosphere.
I spoke to the Spa receptionist today who said they are discussing and making arrangements at present, whether or not they have any definite plans yet she didn't know. Best call front desk
