The Fox and Anchor is a lively pub and we had our room on the first floor. We stayed in the St. Barth room which was large and had a very generous Shower and Bathtub. Apart from the noise from the building site across the street, the Fox and Anchor could be a quite place to stay in the middle...

Stayed here in their boutique hotel recently. Great comfortable room with everything you could need. Great shower and bathtub (separate). One of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in and the room was spacious and well decorated. The food and service in the pub was excellent. Would definitely recommend to stay and eat here.

Used to visit this pub when it was proper market pub. However it was closed for a long time and was later revamped. Three of us had a breakfast here plus a few drinks. The visit was fine and we will be back again. Just a pity the area is loosing its "market pubs"

This pub has got good beers and the food is excellent. It also has got a small but beautiful boutique hotel next doors. The pub itself has got a great warm atmosphere. Its also very central and close to Smithfields market.

Had a great one night stay here as a birthday treat in February. Our room was beautifully decorated, spacious, well equipped (TV with speaker system, coffee maker, fridge, plenty of storage) and very clean. I especially liked the roll top copper bath and the attention to detail in the design of the room was really impressive. The only downside to...

Fantastic location for exploring London. Stayed here for one night while shooting our new promotional video. The manager and staff were so warm & welcoming. The bedrooms are absolutely stunning. The pictures do not even do them justice. They are so spacious, luxurious and well equipped. It's the attention to detail that really stands out. Everything you could possible want...

Stopped here for a quick G&T on the way to another venue and what a lucky find this was. Not least because they had fresh oysters! What an unexpected and serendipitous surprise. They were absolutely delicious. G&Ts were done to our specification so what more could we have asked for. The weather was glorious so we sat at one of...

Brilliant little B&B beautiful room stayed in Smithfield. Service was great can't comment on the food as we didn't have any there. Right next to the tube station so easy to get around London. Only let down was when we were checking out we were told that we hadn't actually paid for or stay even though we had given out...

We had spent Saturday morning at the Barbican and needed somewhere for lunch for five of us plus a very small baby. We were given a lovely, friendly, hospitable, welcome and shown to a table tucked away in a little panelled room, which was perfect for all of us and very peaceful and private for the baby. The food was...

A real breakfast destination is the Fox, well for me, as now and again nothing beats their Full Monty. We were a group of 6 friends, checked out of our hotel and walked to The Fox with our bags to get one of the best breakfasts that London has to offer. A great welcome, bags stored, tea and coffee and...

Staying in Clerkenwell

Neighbourhood Profile
Clerkenwell
Owing to its proximity to Smithfield Market – the site of an ancient meat market which remains in operation today – Clerkenwell boasts a plethora of globally renowned restaurants, fabulous local eateries, and some of London's favorite pubs. This isn't merely a focal point for all things foodie though. Spend enough time wondering through the area's maze of streets and you might become accustomed to the litany of slinky models passing between Clerkenwell's handful of fashion houses. Far outnumbering the models are craftspeople and designers, many of them are more than happy to welcome visitors into their studios and showrooms.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestled deep in the lively & exciting Smithfield area, the former original London gin-joint has been lovingly restored to its former glory and a whole lot more as well. The Fox & Anchor originates from the late Victorian era and has been serving the traders of Smithfield market for years. Grand mahogany doors, etched glass and heavy brass, we serve great British food alongside our favourite cask ales & craft beers. With 6 traditional rooms all with their own unique differences, the eclectic range of rooms are a hidden gem in the city. ... more   less
