I am not saying not to stay here but I think it is important to know that this has more the feel of an institutional dormitory than a smart hotel with a pleasant reception etc.. if you only want somewhere to stay (great location) and do not mind 'old fashioned' rooms (they are clean) then this is fine.

Thankyou for your review. We are not a hotel but a Private Members Club for the Civil Service. Our location as you say is excellent, being just off Trafalgar Square on Great Scotland Yard. Our rooms are clean and comfortable representing excellent value for the area.

I have stayed here a few times and any shortcomings are generally forgiven by its excellent central location - 300 metres from Trafalgar Square. My single room was very small but it was clean and functional. The breakfast, included in the price, was excellent. Overall, a good value place to stay and an excellent location.

Ideally situated but a bit noisy which is what you'd expect in central London. Breakfast was fine but lunch in the dining room was pretty average so wouldn't have it again. Will go back but next time will take ear plugs.

Slightly faded three star facilities on which upgrades have started, but it's in such a fantastic location two minutes from Horseguards Parade and Trafalgar Square. The prices are also amazing as is the choice of beers which makes it a popular watering hole. You can't find food this price anywhere else I'll wager though it perhaps won't win a bib...

Decor is tired and needs updating, beds aren't particularly comfortable, service is surly and slow. The bathrooms are old and the shower takes ages to heat up - but hey, for just over £100 in this area of London, you really can't fault it. Oh- and if you aren't required to be up and out early, breakfast is included in...

The Civil Service Club is a private club with a restricted membership right in the middle of Whitehall. It's cheap, the food is traditional 'gentleman's club' food, traditional English with small bows to France and Italy, and the staff polite and friendly. I hadn't been there for years but went recently with my wife on the four day half board...

The mega burger was fairly substantial everything tasted good, the chicken and bacon and egg, except the burger meat wasn't very good quality, more frozen burger with a lot of fat content. Took a long time for the food to arrive! Otherwise beer is always good value.

Tucked away by the Nigerian Consulate this members bar, restaurant and rooms is well located if in central London. Service is always excellent whether in the bar or in the dining hall and quality very good especially given the excellent prices. Recommended.

A regular venue for our Christmas lunch. Always great food and a good price. Friendly staff. Plan to join as annual costs are quite low for current or ex civil servant at around £50-ish. Double room at weekend for 2 night is about £230 including breakfast which, given the location is good.

Staying in Westminster

Neighbourhood Profile
Westminster
If you only had an afternoon to experience London on a grand scale, Westminster would be a wise place to start. The ornate Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey sit adjacent at a corner of Parliament Square, and a short stroll along The Mall leads to Buckingham Palace. Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column are just up the road as well. As captivating as the architecture is, the wonders of Mother Nature are highlights of the area too. St James's Park (arguably London's loveliest), the expansive Green Park, and pedestrian friendly tree lined paths along the river showcase the exquisite manicure provided by English gardeners. Just beyond the landmarks and the gorgeous outdoor spaces, quiet residential squares and age old local pubs offer a more subdued take on this global seat of power in the heart of London.
