Over the holidays, 14 of us enjoyed a reunion over afternoon tea in the Orangery at Number Sixteen. It was a wonderful setting, excellent service, good tea and food, lovely table settings (with custom Wedgewood), and staff made us feel welcome to linger for 2-1/2 hours, well into the early evening. Along with a very reasonable price, there was a...

Number 16 is so lovely. The design and attention to detail is delightful and extraordinary. The feel is like a very well-appointed home. I love the exquisite rooms - all unique and all beautiful -, the dining and sitting areas. You can come in from a long walk and enjoy tea or a drink, meet other lovely guests or just...

I agree with the last review, this hotel gets it right. To say that the staff do everything they can to please is an understatement - and they do it happily and with charm. A big thank you to everyone. We loved our stay and feel we have finally found our London 'home'. Everything about this hotel is lovely. The...

This is a boutique hotel which simply gets it right on all counts. Superbly located for starters (in Kensington) this is a small and extremely comfortable place to "come home to" whilst staying in London. Having 2 lounges in which to relax (one of which is an Honesty Bar) helps enhance the stay - as does the restaurant with its...

I arranged a stay here to brighten a trip for my seriously ill wife to The Royal Brompton hospital in London. What a mistake that was as apart from the location and the general ambience of the hotel, Number Sixteen failed spectacularly. I advised well in advance of the reason for our visit and requested a quiet room overlooking the...

I give it a good rating because of the following: nice clean rooms / elegant and stylish hotel! Good location and very convenient. The breakfast was excellent. It also has a beautiful courtyard. There was one point that was not ok: the room was not ready on time and I checked-in about 1 hour late. So I was not happy...

This beautiful, boutique property tucked in a small neighborhood of Georgian row houses in South Kensington and part of the Kit Kemp collection has been our "home" in London on three occasions. The courtyard is its biggest surprise--an oasis of calm and good service. The rooms are whimsical, to say the least. The deluxe rooms, especially in the "basement", are...

PROS: Good neighbourhood Great lobby Nice design CONS: Terrible room. It felt like the smallest, teenage bedroom ever. What a disappointment for the high price (and it was my company paying)! Never again.

Very superior hotel. Staff are warm and friendly. Breakfast was cosmopolitan and plentiful. Altogether a discrete and enjoyable experience. Close to Harrods and Kensington shopping .me .nearest underground was only a short distance away.

Staying in South Kensington

Neighbourhood Profile
South Kensington
With its ivied mews, row upon row of Poppins-esque white washed mansions, and placid garden squares, it's easy to see the charms of South Kensington. And with superb access to Hyde Park, Holland Park and Kensington Gardens, as well as the largely child-friendly and mostly free Museum Quarter (not to mention more major attractions like Royal Albert Hall) such charms are easy to make the most of. As welcoming and cosmopolitan as it is reserved and residential, South Kensington is always a hit with visitors.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Number Sixteen forms part of a row of gleaming white stucco mid Victorian townhouses. It originally opened in the 1980’s and instantly became popular with discerning travellers looking for an alternative to the larger Park Lane hotels. Now several years on, the hotel has a Firmdale point of view. Kit Kemp redesigned the hotel in her signature, fresh modern English style. ... more   less
