The Rookery is a hidden gem. Tucked just off the hustle and bustle of Farringdon and Smithfield market you step back in time as soon as you step through the door. Reception staff are incredibly attentive, super trendy and know all there is to know about the local area. The restaurant doesn't have a restaurant, but honestly it's not a...

If you like the relive the style of the late Victorian era with the smell of leather and polished wood, this is a place for you. This was luxury more than one hundred years ago. Good traditional English cuisine and excellent English breakfast. Given most London prices, this was a good and not too costly experience. It is also in...

This is a charming hotel in Clerkenwell decorated in a Tudor to Gothic style. Heavy carved wood four poster beds, communal library with fireplace, honesty bar, patio, etc. The rooms are not numbered but are identified by name, the name being that of a former occupant, be they prostitute, lawyer, baker,or other, of the three buildings that were put together...

Great location, loved the history of the place and how that was presented to guests, enjoyed the honesty bar, would definitely stay here again. People complaining about noise should do a bit more research before booking - this is a busy working area of the city during the week (steps away from Smithfield Market which is a working butchery through...

A truly fabulous and charming gem of a boutique hotel with amazing bedrooms and luxurious bathrooms and toiletry products! My boyfriend and I stayed at The Rookery for our anniversary a couple of weeks ago and we were incredibly impressed by the warm welcoming from Gwendolyn, she made us feel right at home! She was really helpful when we made...

Stayed here one night on business and possibly enjoyed it. The decor is stunning and the staff were very friendly. For a small hotel I felt the seating areas offered some nice choices and were very comfortable. I came into after dinner and asked for tea to be served in the library and got a lovely tray with biscuits and...

We had a great, relaxing break here. A wonderful historic haven in the middle of London. Stunning hotel with antique furniture and very friendly, helpful staff. It's a very small hotel, with no restaurant. However, this caused us no problems as it means that the Rookery is much quieter than many hotels and the breakfast, which is served in your...

I don't understand all the positive reviews of this place. There is no comfortable sitting area at all, there are two sofas servicing over 30 rooms. Breakfast is to be taken in the room, in our case a very small and dark attic room with a linoleum floored bathroom......not appealing. There are a couple of positives, the building is fairly...

Booking was very simple through Mr and Mrs Smith. Check in and check out very straightforward. Staff friendly. Good location. Nice communal rooms with honesty bar. The room was small, and felt very hot and stuffy - even with the windows open all day and night. The bathroom reasonable size with good quality REN products. The lack of tea/coffee in...

Staying in Clerkenwell

Neighbourhood Profile
Clerkenwell
Owing to its proximity to Smithfield Market – the site of an ancient meat market which remains in operation today – Clerkenwell boasts a plethora of globally renowned restaurants, fabulous local eateries, and some of London's favorite pubs. This isn't merely a focal point for all things foodie though. Spend enough time wondering through the area's maze of streets and you might become accustomed to the litany of slinky models passing between Clerkenwell's handful of fashion houses. Far outnumbering the models are craftspeople and designers, many of them are more than happy to welcome visitors into their studios and showrooms.
