Booked two King rooms on Friday 10th August at a discounted £98 each following a trip to watch the athletics. The staff were extremely friendly and courteous - we asked if one room could be made into a twin and this was done without quibble. Both rooms were spacious, clean and with large bathrooms. Excellent value in London.

Great hotel in a convenient location on a charming side street in the historic financial district. Apex often offers terrific discounts on weekends since the financial district empties out after 5 on Fridays. Rooms are quiet, spacious and comfortable with pleasant contemporary decor; the bathrooms are roomy and spotless with huge shower stalls. The staff are friendly and efficient. The... More

Booked on the Friday and stayed the following night on the Saturday 28th July. Got great last minute price of down from £198 to £98 (no breakfast). Room great with balcony where we could see the Tower Bridge with the Olympic rings. Hotel didnt seem very busy although it was in great spot round the back of the Tower of... More

Excellent hotel - from the fast, friendly check in, to the complimentary upgrade, the evening meal and the wonderful breakfast. Staff couldn't have been more helpful. Room was beautifully clean and well appointed. Excellent location too.

We booked this Hotel for the Olympics as the situation was excellent and the price was a good offer. Right next to the Tower of London, close to Underground station and DLR. We were upgraded on arrival to a lovely big room with excellent bathroom with bath and separate shower - perfect! Delicious breakfast with lots of choice and open... More

First, let me tell you the good things about this hotel: great location, exceptional cleanliness in rooms, top sound system and friendly staff. Now the not so good: on my July visit I had a complaint, I was ignored by the Restaurant Manager and kept waiting in a quiet breakfast service for seven minutes whilst he discussed his night out... Found a late deal during the Olympics and it was very cheap given what it provided. The location was perfect, and we were upgraded to a room with a terrace on arrival. The room was immaculate and had everything you could ever want (including a nice seating area to watch the olympics). Excellent attention to small details, including Bose surround... More

We booked this hotel with Great Escapes and for the price we paid it was great value. It was friendly, clean and spacious. The decor was to a high standard also. The location was great for the Olympics. From Saturday lunchtime and all day Sunday you can park free on the yellow line outside the hotel. I had not come... More

Being so close to the Tower of London housing the crown jewels, this hotel is a real gem too. The location is fantastic, being only a 5 minute walk from Tower Hill tube station. We stayed over the final weekend of the Olympics and managed to bag a great deal as part of the hotel chain's regular flash sales. The... More

This hotel made our stay extra special in London during the Olympics, which we were lucky enough to have tickets for! We also managed to get a great deal on Secret Escapes for this hotel which made it even better! We arrived before the recommended check in time and were welcomed by a lovely lady on reception who quickly and... More

Staying in City of London

Neighbourhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighbourhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighbourhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
