this was our first experience of staying in Norwich and 38 st giles. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome. We were met by lucy who was really lovely. Lucy showed us to our room (mancroft) which was just soo lovely, soft towels, nice toiletries, a cupboard for hanging your clothes and tea and coffee...

We stayed over on 13/11/16 to 14/11/16. The entrance was very secretive but to me this added to the appeal and its hidden charm. The room was beautiful and we received cake upon arrival and indulged in a nice hot coffee whilst taking the surroundings in. We then went for a little walk round the city and when we got...

Extremely fortunate that I stumbled across this inner city B&B. A last minute booking which turned out to be an excellent choice. The greeting we received was very warm and welcoming from Holly and she was extremely helpful. The property has an immaculate decor and there are well chosen and positioned antiques and paintings. My wife and I were extremely...

There are those that use TripAdvisor as some kind of surrogate counselor, typing splenetic comments about staff and providing photographs as evidence of how they have been traumatized by a lack of coat hangers. There is very little one can do about these people. We should, perhaps, be mindful of the fact that many of them have food stains on...

In The Kinks song Shangri-La they sang 'You're in your place and you know where you are' They didn't quite mean it in this way but 38 St Giles Boutique Bed & Breakfast is the place I want to stay when I'm in Norwich again overnight. Lovely welcome, lovely room, lovely breakfast.

We were given a warm welcome, with a pot of tea and fantastic home made brownies. Holly was friendly and warm, and made sure we had everything we needed. She cooked us the best breakfasts we've ever had in any hotel or B&B, we chose different things each morning and the food was faultless. Her colleagues were also lovely, we...

This is a beautiful and well run small hotel. The staff were kind and polite, nothing was too much. Spacious well equipped rooms and good quality beds, linen and everything beautifully clean. The breakfast was really outstanding, ten out of ten. I couldn't recommend 38 St Giles more highly.

I stayed here for a couple of days on a business trip with a couple of colleagues. When we arrived we were all welcomed personally and shown to our rooms. As you would expect each room was different and very well appointed in its own unique style. Coffee machines in each room. I was unpacking when there was a knock...

I had a single night here. The location is central and convenient. The staff are friendly. The room was small and there was not really the space for a double bed. The room was quiet. There was limited space to hang clothes. The shower was lovely but the en-suite was very cramped. The breakfast was enjoyable but service slow. I...

Dear Mr Kluth, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. I am sorry that you felt your room was too small - you stayed in our Cavell room which is a compact double and usually suits the needs of a single occupancy guest fine. As you chose and booked this room via booking.com, we had no...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
38 St Giles is a grand house with a long and interesting history. It was built in 1700 for the Gurney family and became home to the former Lord Mayor of Norwich. Its neatly tucked-away entrance just off St Giles Street creates an intimacy and privacy that is unrivalled. We are the most centrally located boutique accommodation in Norwich, a stone's throw from the largest outdoor covered marketplace in the UK and adjacent to 'the lanes' - one of the oldest parts of this fine city and an area of national repute boasting well over 200 independent retailers of fashion, food and just about anything else that you might wish to buy. Inside the main entrance we have a grand staircase from which most of the bedrooms are accessed. From our wonderful double rooms to our two large suites you will be surrounded in comfort and a sense of history. We have chosen an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary pieces of furniture & artefacts, sumptuous throws, cushions and rugs. Our bathrooms feature oversized walk-in showers and rain shower heads, several rooms also have baths. White, fluffy towels and a range of quality toiletries help ensure that your morning ablutions are a positive experience! In selecting our bedding we have chosen simply embroidered 400 thread count white Egyptian cotton (not easy to iron but wonderful next to the skin) with goose down and feather pillows and duvets. Homemade cakes are served on arrival with a choice of teas or our specially blended and locally roasted coffee. We bake our own bread, make our own preserves and source all of our ingredients from the best local suppliers. No corners are cut in attempting to provide you with a relaxing, comfortable and memorable stay. We are happy to cater for small wedding parties, birthdays, anniversaries and other group bookings. We can even create a special meal with fine wines and champagne on arrival for that extra special treat. ... more   less
