I booked the Grand as it bills itself as Yorkshire's only 5 star hotel and I wanted something special for my partner's birthday. In some ways the Grand fulfils that claim on others it falls short. Location - perfect, we arrived by train and it was a short walk through the city walls to the hotel. If you drive you...

On arrival you are quickly taken in with your bags collected and your car parked, all incredibly efficient. Our room (221) was a classic room so we were expecting something a little cramped and basic but were very pleasantly surprised. The room was split level with the bedroom on the level you entered and then a few steps leading to...

Great location in regards to the station as we were getting an evening train after work. The room (executive double) was incredibly spacious and comfortable, with two bathrooms (toilet and sink in one, sink and bath/shower in the other) that were well fitted. The only problem I found with the room was that although you couldn't hear a lot of...

Great hotel. It really executes the little touches very well. Turndown service and Molton Brown minis are a lovely bonus. I'm not sure what was the highlight of our stay; Daniel the concierge or sharing the lift with Ricky Gervais! Can't wait to stay again if I return to York. It was the other halves birthday and he was also...

Stayed here with my wife for 2 nights. Very friendly greeting by the doormen. Luggage and car taken off our hands very politey and professionally. We booked a Junior Suite. Very nice room. Spacious with a separate - but small- sitting room. No views to speak of. Ate in the hotel the first night. Had a drink in the bar...

Part of the charm of The Grand is the architecture and attention to detail. If you get the chance, walk up the sweeping staircase to the first floor landing; look at the beautifully coloured plasterwork to the ceiling and the intricate carvings to the staircase arches. We had morning coffee in the very comfortable Bar Lounge but could have sat...

We visited this hotel and on arrival we were greeted by conciarge who took our bag to our room this was a nice touch We then checked into our room which was smooth and easy, then on arrival to our room (232) we were surprised by how nice and spacious the room was. We stayed 9-11 march and found the...

Stayed one night on Saturday 11 March after booking an executive room on booking.com for £245. Room was clean but noisy and no breakfast provided (booking.com didn't answer their customer service line and no interest from the hotel unless we wanted to pay an additional £30 for breakfast. Very disappointed as I wouldn't have booked a room only at these...

A totally amazing afternoon spent with my daughters as a birthday treat for me. The venue is beautiful & staff extremely professional. The food was the best selection I've ever had for an afternoon tea. However we have to say that the icing on the cake was the service we received from Sahbi, the maître d'. He made our day...

Spent 4 nights in this lovely hotel last week, where we were joined by our grown up children to celebrate my daughter's 30th birthday. We chose it for the central location and to experience a treat in a really nice hotel and we were certainly not disappointed. The service throughout was eficient and friendly from our initial welcome at reception...
