Great location. Very central but still very quiet. We had the Cliff Room which was quite small but more than adequate for the weekend. Lovely breakfast and very friendly and helpful staff. We would definitely recommend staying here if you are visiting York.

We were recommended to this hotel by someone who lives in York and uses its bar and restaurant. So glad we took their suggestion! This hotel is centuries old, with a long and fascinating history. It's tucked away out of sight, abutting the city wall - the city wall is their garden wall (and what a garden!). At the eastern...

We've worked so hard over the last 7 years to make Grays Court a wonderful retreat for people, and it's lovely to hear that our hard work is paying off. I hope very much to welcome you again soon. We tried to book this hotel for a long weekend at the end of July 2017 in January. The on-line booking facility offered us an acceptable room, took all our credit card details and issued an acknowledgement and reservation number. 5 hours later we get an email saying there had been a problem with their on-line booking system and we...

I'm disappointed to read this review, as I immediately made the effort to address your concerns personally - see email below: 'However, I need to let you know that I do not ever play the system as you describe it. We have a wedding on that weekend, and this was booked over a year ago. We also have a wedding...

We stayed recently for a 3 day holiday in York. We could not have picked a beter place. The hotel is a lovely old place with lots of character. The staff are lovely and look after you well. Our room was nice but not quite up to the price charged. The restaurant was also excellent with breakfast a real treat....

I am so happy I found Grays Court to stay at while on our trip through Northern England! Upon arrival we were greeted by the owner, Helen, who was amazing!! We had three rooms and all of them were decorated perfectly!!! Our rooms had a wonderful view of The York Minster! We had drinks in the Long Hall which had...

I'm so glad to hear how much you enjoyed your stay, and it was a pleasure to meet you whilst you were here. You must visit us again in the summer - the garden is a treat in the sunshine. Best wishes, Helen

Just wanted to say what a fantastic night we had on New Years Eve. The building is stunning and is about as close as you can get to the Minister and the city walls. Our room (Cumberland) was fantastic and we both thoroughly enjoyed the seven course taster menu. Every member of staff were both courteous and helpful and we...

Absolutely lovely visit. This was a New Years treat for us, being common as muck our hotels are more often Brittania than botique! Yet we were made to feel very welcome. Service was friendly and efficient without being overbearing. The manager on duty (I asked then forgot his name- apologies!) could not have been more warm and helpful despite clearly...

We stayed for two nights over the New Year at Grays Court, and had a wonderful time. The staff were so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Our New Years Eve meal was innovative and delicious, the excellent entertainment, and the setting in this remarkable old building all added to our enjoyment. Grays Court, situated in a quiet area...

I could not speak highly enough of the service we received from the whole team of staff at Gray's - they were like a well oiled set of cogs all playing their own individual role to make the day perfect. The rooms were amazing and the history fascinating and the food was excellent . I would like to thank them...

The hotel appealed to us as a grade 1 listed building full of character. The building did not disappoint. However, the service was appalling. Full of pleasantries, but not a lot of action. I complained three or four times about the music ; a single track on repeat for between 20-50 minutes each complaint. Nothing appeared to be done by...

We do have a number of new staff that are still being trained, so I will be taking this up with management immediately to see why such silly mistakes are...
