We checked out of a poorly soundproofed hotel for this one after doing a bit of research. The hotel was in the mid-range price at £105 a night for that particular night. We arrived and were promptly checked in. We were taken to a room in the corner of the main building (older) and it was very nice inside with really nice bathroom. However, as a 4 star hotel, I didn't expect to see crumbs on the table- not a good start. After settling in and freshening up, we discovered loads of ladybirds in the room?? The noise from creaking and footsteps as well was so irritating as, like I say, checked out of a hotel with bad noise problems and we already told this to the front desk. We went down to report the ladybirds and creaking and they did move us to another room, which was very nice of them. They weren't to know, but we were celebrating our birthday there, so we wanted a nice night. The new room was in the new building that had been recently renovated. It was nicely decorated, however for a hotel that describes itself as 'luxury', the decor seemed a bit tired, scuffs and scrapes over the doors and blinds etc. The bed was super comfy and big, but there was quite a bit of condensation in the morning, probably because it was cold outside but no ventilation system in the windows. The weirdest thing about this hotel was the level of service. As I mentioned, it was our birthday, so we decided to spend some time in the bar after we came home from dinner and ordered two rounds of cocktails. After the first round was finished, my bf ordered another drink and I said 'can you make that two please?' and the bar lady didn't say a word, almost sighed and turned her back to us to go make the drinks. She just seemed so rude and unwelcoming. She also asked us which room and what name she should charge drinks to three times. Just weird. The morning after at check out, the lady didn't ask us how our stay was or anything, just asked us to pay the drinks tab. Again just really off-service for a 4 star hotel. All in all, the service needs to improve to be worth the actual price of staying, it can't all be based on looks. Parking is also £11 per night which is steep for parking, although cheaper than anywhere else we found in the city which is why we also chose to stay at this hotel. The parking extends from check in until very late the next evening though. Cheaper than parking overnight in an NCP I expect.

Dear Rchlyng Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us. Firstly I would like to apologise for the issues in your room upon arrival, Unfortunately the property dates back to the 18th Century and along with that comes structural noises. For example the creaking floors that you experienced. There is however, no excuse for the service which you received in the bar for after-dinner cocktails. I will be taking the time to speak to this member of staff and pass this feedback on. I am sorry that we weren't informed about your birthday celebration, we would have liked to provide some chocolates and a birthday card from our team for this special occasion. I do hope we are still able to welcome you at some point in the future, please contact me directly for future bookings and I will arrange this personally. Kind regards Charley

We took the NYE 3 day package which included NYE 4 course dinner with champagne plus breakfast for the 3 nights. Absolutely bargain and value for money, also included live band NYE ! The rooms were just fine and service exceptional. We opted for drinks on house rather than house maid service, recommend that these could be exchanged for a glass of fizz instead of wine, only criticism other than that 10/10

We stayed at the Hotel Du Vin in York for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The whole experience was exceptional. We stayed in the Signature suite for a treat and loved having two roll top baths. It meant we could enjoy cocktails in the bath whilst watching Christmas movies. Christmas dinner was fabulous and the staff could not have been any more accommodating. Everything was provided with sparkle and a smile. Thank you to the amazing team. You made our Christmas magical. We’ll most certainly be returning.

Fabulous stay at a fabulous hotel. Check in was quick by the lovely Sarah. Taken to our room by a staff member which added a personal touch. Stayed in a standard room which was immaculately clean and have everything we needed. Wonderfully comfy bed. Lovely touches such as bottles of water, hairdryer, good quality tea and coffee. Stunning bathroom with the most amazing water pressure! Had drinks in the bar, special mention to Jade who not only made the BEST espresso martini, but was welcoming, chatty and personable - thank you! We ate our evening meal there and WOW JUST WOW. Food was stunning, from the presentation to the taste. Thank you to the chefs. Service was excellent and we were well looked after. Thank you to Miguel. We received a surprise complimentary glass of fizz to compensate for slow check in - we did not feel there was any issue with checking in but the gesture was really appreciated. Breakfast was also a joy. Excellent choice of continental and cooked. Without a doubt we will be returning to York and this hotel. We were so looked after and felt very indulged and spoilt. Thank you to all the staff :)

Overnight stay in Hotel du Vin. Clean, comfortable accommodation. Had the best night's sleep I'd had in weeks! Incredibly comfortable bed and very peaceful location. A special mention to all staff who were incredibly friendly, accommodating but non - intrusive at the same time. Great little place, will return.
