The hotel is in good location being in the centre of town tucked away down a side street, a short distance from the bus interchange and rail station. The room was a double although I booked as a single with a very comfortable double bed. A kettle and a supply of tea and coffee were provided and extra can be obtained from Reception. A grab and go breakfast was included and was better than I expected as it had cereal with yogurt, croissant, small cake , piece of fruit and small carton of juice. The hotel doesn’t provide food aside from the breakfast although I believe you can order for it to be delivered. There was a lovely cheerful girl on the Reception desk each day happy to help. As for other reviews about drunks etc outside I saw none in the time there. The only noise I heard was church bells and some inconsiderate guests who thought it ok to bang doors at 3am and talk loudly at 2am so everyone could hear. If I had a complaint it was the lack of heating in the bathroom and also one morning I wanted to take an early shower but the water was cold despite letting it run. Not sure if that’s because it isn’t on until a certain time. I didn’t try the bar although it looks nice.

Hotel's Favourite
A great hotel in the centre of the city. The staff really made our stay great. Especially Ella on reception and Monica (darlink) head of housekeeping. The grab and go breakfast bags are a great idea but miss a bacon barm! Obviously impractical as no kitchen facilities but Deliveroo were an efficient alternative.

George Orwell once wrote of Sheffield “it’s one of the most appalling places I’ve ever seen.” Harsh words from the late English novelist! But here were are in Sheffield, more specifically, at the Best Western Hotel. Sometimes, people come up to me in the street, and they say “Pipes, why is it called ‘The Best’? What’s so good about it?” Well, I guess it’s time we found out! The check-in process at the front desk was as smooth and as fast as you’d imagine it to be when you’re at the wrong end of a bleary ten pint session. The lift however, was slow and snail like. Some say it’s the slowest lift in western civilization. Indeed, when Pipes and his friends first entered, Britain was still in the EU! I had hair when I walked in! So slow was it in fact that time appeared to stand still, and my whole life passed before me. It was like being trapped in some timeless void in the afterlife, where all the mistakes you’ve ever made are replayed in slow motion for you and your maker to see. Like one of those bad dreams where you’re running, but not actually moving. We most certainly were not actually moving. Just a bunch of guys in a cramped lift, in complete silence, struggling to maintain their dignity. But enough lies. It’s time for bed. And let’s be honest, the bed was comfortable, and Pipes snuggled down keenly, knowing a good nights sleep was in store. But hark, whatever could that noise be? Is it the sound of the raucousness of the fading Sheffield night? Could it be merry passersby, giggling and laughing ecstatically as only people do at 4am? Why no, it’s the sound of a fellow guest, repeatedly kicking his door as hard as he can, for several minutes, for no apparent reason. Ah, the enthusiastic exuberance of youth! And they say youth is wasted on the young! Soon, it was dawn. Time to begin the packing and checking out process with a happy yet heavy heart. Pipes treated himself to a tasty cuppa, made from the budget kettle provided, and pondered the grey and dreary Yorkshire skyline. As The KLF said, “Ossett, Otley, Isley Moor, Sheffield…it’s grim up North.”

We spent one night in this hotel and can honestly say we had the worst nights sleep ever in a hotel. The bed was not very comfy but the noise from outside meant that we did not get to sleep until about 4am due to a group of homeless people talking really loudly throughout the entire night. Within an hour of so of them going quiet we were then woken by the bin lorry that came to empty all of the bottle bins! The hotel is situated next to a long narrow alleyway and the noise outside echoes and bounces off of the buildings. Even with the windows closed you could hear every word from anyone outside. This building needs triple glazing at the very least. Such a shame as the inside of the hotel is not that bad and the staff were really nice and helpful. If you do decide to stay here then definitely ask, before you book, if they have any rooms that are sound proofed. Alternatively if you are hard of hearing then this hotel will be ideal for you as it is in a fantastic location near to the shops, car park, bus station and O2 Academy.

Stayed 1 night whilst going to a music concert at the corporation. Awesome location. Room was dated but clean and adequate for 1 nights stay. What made this stay so great were the ladies at reception! Very friendly and helpful. Nothing too much trouble. If I was to come to Sheffield again we would be happy to stay here again!
