I should have read the reviews. The rude guy on reception said he had no record of the booking, even though i had my booking reference on my phone. No apology or concern at all. And the place did look filthy, so he did us a favour! This seems to be very common, so please avoid at all costs.

I visited this hostel as a group on a busy Saturday night. Truth be told all other places in affordable range were booked up. We had booked two rooms in advance for the whole group and paid a holding deposit. The reception it said was 24hrs and there was no mention of having to check in at a particular time....

I'd give this place zero if I could. We booked 2 rooms of 6 and 4 beds each for our sports team to stay when we were in Sheffield for the weekend. Deposit paid and credit card details handed over for security. Check in is advertised as 24 hours however when we arrived late after our last game and dinner,...

I visited here with one friend on a Saturday night. Close to city centre. Room fine. Hostel quiet and was full. Staff helpful and friendly. For what you pay it is perfect If your paying hostel prices don't expect 5 star hotels. I would stay again.

We booked this hostel for 25 people, with plenty of notice and paid up front. When we arrived, we were given two very small rooms and a total of 18 beds (including 11 cramped into one room that had a deflated blow up mattress as the 11th bed). If this isn't a fire hazard, or illegal in several other ways,...

One week after I was back in Canada my credit card was charged another night which I had not booked. When I tried to talk to them about it they were rude on the phone and hang up and don't reply to email. Also the place is not as polished as they advertise and the doors cannot be locked. Don't...

The place is overpriced for what they offer. The location is the only plus point really. Its a very noisy place, you can very easily hear every sound in the building quiet clearly: people chatting, the noises in the kitchen, the snores, the housekeeper herself is very loud. The showers and toilets were clean. The wi-fi was good so that...

I won't be going back here again. It wasn't awful but it also wasn't particularly good, wifi was slow, the showers were semi cold, the rooms were cold and my duvet cover may have been clean but the duvet itself was covered it hair. I had an issue on the first night there because the window wouldn't close and there...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We at Russell Scott Hostels also known as R S Hostels offer our guests safe, secure, clean, spacious budget accommodation being the only backpackers hostel in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. We are not profit driven. With you having a great time in Sheffield and staying with us, is all we wish for! We do not believe in making extra from you, your basic needs are all taken care of - internet access, washing machine, bed linen, breakfast all inclusive in the room/bed rate.We believe that small is beautiful. We pride ourselves in offering cheap accommodation by which we don't mean over crowding the place or reduce the facilities we offer. For example our dorms have single beds in them and the maximum no of people in our dorm is six even though the room could easily accommodate eight people. Knowing what it is like to be a backpacker/traveller and knowing little needs go a long way, we decided to provide value for money accommodation with no compromise whatsoever on the quality or most of the perks that you would enjoy in a star hotel for one third of the price. ... more   less
