We decided to book 2 night stay on a special offer of Bed, breakfast ( both mornings) evening meal ( on both nights) for a very reasonable price.
We booked over the phone, managing to get a space in their car park for £10 per day. Check in was extremely easy, the key being in a small plastic bag and I need to mention that everything about our stay was under strict Covid aware precautions. We were given an option of a refill bag, of essential coffee, tea, toilet paper, refills. This we took which prevented any cleaning of our room, in view of the pandemic. The size of room was more than big enough for two with old fashioned furniture but more than functional, and the bed was very comfortable.
We had the same menu for dinner on both nights but as there were more than enough options to choose this was fine. To say the food was excellent would be an understatement. All served, very hot, cooked beautifully with similar presentation. Breakfast was chosen at the table, full English, etc with the usual options of lighter choices. You chose the buffet behind a, screen with the plates, glasses served to your table. All staff were polite and helpful.
An all round perfect stay with us certainly wanting to return in the future.
Many thanks Royal Hotel Bath 🏆🏆👍👍

From the moment I arrived at Royal Hotel Bath, I was made to feel welcome and at home. The staff was so friendly, welcoming and always good for a chat. When talking about my plans to just see where the wind would take me while in Bath with only a visit to the Roman Baths as a definite must, I was quickly advised to check the website as they weren't sure the site allowed walk-ins on the day (hint: they don't, so you must pre-book entry).
My room (a twin room) was light, airy, spacious (even if I'd had a travel companion) and clean.

Breakfast was served in the restaurant and guests were seated with space between to allow for social distancing and was of good quality and with a varied selection available.

All staff wore masks and guests were encouraged to wear masks in hallways and common areas as well and hand sanitiser was placed by the elevator on every floor and in the rooms.

The hotel is ideally located when travelling by train as it is just opposite from Bath Spa station and just a 5 minute walk +/- from the Roman Baths and the shopping area. Pulteney Bridge and Parade Gardens is only 10 min walk away, so you are really in the middle of everything.
Despite being just by the station, I did not hear any of the trains, only normal traffic noise from the street filtering up to 3rd floor.
Having had plans that like million others were kicked curb by the pandemic, I am happy I ended up deciding on going to Bath and my stay at Royal Hotel has made it one of my very best decisions of 2020.

I highly recommend staying here and look forward to my next stay!

Thanks for making my time in Bath special.

The staff at the Royal Hotel makes this a special place to stay, from reception to the restaurant to the housekeeping staff. I had booked a car space but when my husband and I arrived in the car park there wasn’t a space due to some of the other cars not parking correctly but the lady on reception resolved the issue immediately. A true professional. Our room was super clean, the bed very comfy with lovely bed linen and we liked the added touch of a fan, which was very much appreciated. I love the extra touch of proper coffee which is always a treat The meals in the restaurant were of a very high standard and the staff very attentive, but not overly so. And just one final thing - we felt absolutely safe with the hotel’s safety precautions during these exceptional and unprecedented times. The gold coloured hand sanitisers blended in with the hotel’s surroundings beautifully. My husband and I will return again.

Thank you so much for your delightful review and awarding us 5 stars. A special thank you for highlighting the many aspects of your stay which made it so enjoyable and in particular your generous compliments about our staff who I am enormously proud of . I am pleased to note that you appreciated the complimentary cafetiere ground coffee which one rarely finds in a hotel bedroom . We like to think that our 'little touches ' ( including amongst other things , loose tea at breakfast ) are appreciated by our guests and help to make us a little 'different ' and more individual , compared from other hotels. Last but not certainly not least I was vey pleased to read that we have created an environmnet in which you felt absolutely safe , in these exceptional times . We look forward to seeing you again soon and please look out for our special offers from time to time on our web site . Kind regards Mike

Very dated property, desperately in need of a big renovation. Right opposite the station, to be honest location is great but not worth the sleepless nights!
The council decided at 10pm to start power washing the front of the station which went on for several hours…we had no sleep whatsoever because apart from that the room that we stayed in (309) had the bed directly underneath two windows, now you would say, what’s wrong with that…well, they had thin curtains hung on wooden poles that if you are aware of these will know that they hang quite far from the window which leaves a large gap for all the light to come in (&sun))…a bling would surely help which cost about £7 each…..honestly, some people just have no idea & it frustrates the hell out of me for something so simple….the cost of our stay per night was £130 approx, we had two nights booked but due to lack of sleep because of noise, hot room etc we were able to cancel our Friday nights stay at a cost of £151 & went home a day early!
Now the shower is another matter to be honest if you have thick hair you would be better off washing it in the sink, it has no power whatsoever!
To be honest you would be better off in a travel lodge…this really is not worth the money.
Plus…I know we are in a pandemic & all need to follow the rules but during your stay your room isn’t cleaned, you get a bag left outside your room with tea/coffee, milk, biscuits, toilet roll….surely the room attendants can enter whilst you are out which is usually the norm anyway.

I was disappointed to read your review and very much regret that you were disturbed by the noise from the power cleaning of the station. This is not a regular occurrence and we are normally advised in advance by Network Rail that the work is being undertaken so that we in turn can alert our customers before they arrive and they have the option of cancelling their booking if they are a located a room at the front of of the hotel . Please accept our apologies for this distrubance . The curtains in all our bedrooms are lined and in room 309 they are hung from a pole designed for curtains . This is the first complaint we have received regarding the curtains not being effective in blocking out light in this room . With respect I do not accept your comment that The Royal is dated as all rooms are redecorated on average every 3 years at most and if necessary sooner . Room 309 was redecorated during this last lock down . It may be the case that you did not like the decor and I appreciate that decor preference is very much individual . However , with our decor schemes we try to retain the character of our lovely grade two listed building , designed by Brunel and built in 1876, and use a designer to advise us . Since receiving your review we have changed the shower head so that the power is now satisfactory . Again my apologies. I can assure you that we dislike leaving the replacement complimentary hospitality tray items outside to avoid our housekeeping staff having to enter the room during your stay but we have been following Covid 19 guidelines in this regard. I regret that you did not ask our reception staff for a different room for your second night as we would been happy to provide you an upgraded room , to compensate for your disppointment on the first night , at the back or side of the hotel which are quieter . With regards Mike

My wife & I stayed there for a couple of mid-week nights and we certainly agreed that we had made the right choice. Firstly, the hotel is in a great central location, across the road from the rail station and only a few minutes walk to the city centre.
Secondly, the staff are so welcoming and friendly that it made our stay really enjoyable.
We booked direct with the hotel and went on a bed, breakfast & dinner deal which offered good value and at the same time we also booked one of the six available parking spaces available at the rear of the hotel, which was very convenient.
Food in the restaurant was of a high standard and a wide ranging menu was offered.
We would recommend this hotel to any visitor wanting to visit Bath. We will certainly return again.

We booked this Hotel for a two night break through Booking.com.
I tried to find rooms with breakfast included. There were none. I presumed you had to book at the hotel.
On arrival, I found the location to be excellent. Directly opposite the train station with some nice bars and restaurants also just over the road.
When checking in, the reception person asked for immediate payment “oh, you are with booking.com. You need to pay now”!
I then asked about breakfast to be told that there was none available as the breakfast room was full! Once more I assumed that was because they had reserved breakfast for direct booking guests. Further we were told that there was no maid service during our stay and that they would not enter our room whilst we were staying. Instead they left a plastic bag outside our room with coffees, teas and condiments. No clean cups, or spoons and nothing in the room to clean them with.
We then went to our room which was 104.
It was a real let down. It was tired, old fashioned, in need of redecorating. However is was a bed for the night but at £327 I expected far better!
On our first night we arrived back after strolling all day around the town and asked if there was any food available. We were told the kitchen was closed. This was only at 8pm. It meant we had to go back out again.
I have booked many times with Booking.com and always found the hotels to be excellent value and customers were not differentiated between direct booking customers. This hotel though is certainly not worth the money. I would have expected no more than £100 a night not the price we paid. Unless there is nothing else available I would book a travel lodge next time!

I was also disappointed on reading your review . I would like to comment on the various isues that you have raised . Due to us wishing to maintain for now social distancing for the benefit of our customers , we are only able to offer breakfast to guests in 26 out of our 35 rooms and therefore we offer both rooms with and without breakfast. We do not differentiate between direct booking guest and those booking via booking.com as both sets of guests can choose a room with or without breakfast. In view of Covid-19 , at check in all guests are currently offered the option of their room being serviced or to have a bag left outside the room . I regret if this was not explained sufficiently clearly to you when you checked in resulting in a misunderstanding. With respect I do not agree with your observationsn regarding your room as we do not consider it tired or old fashioned .The room is well maintained and decorated in the style of our character hotel which is Grade two listed and was built in 1846 . As such when redecorating we use a profesional designer to advise us and help ensure that wr do maintain tthe character of this lovely bulding which was designed by Brunel . However , we recognise that decor preference is very much down to individual choice. In this regard we are not like many other hotels where the decor is uniform throughout, as all of our 35 rooms have individual decor schemes. With regards to the kitchen closing early please accept my apologies as this was forced upon us on this particular evening due to staff illness . The restaurant./basserieis normally open until 9.30 pm and we serve an extensive menu in our lounge bar until 9pm.

Having recently stayed at the Royal Hotel Bath , we found the Reception staff very cheerful and welcoming . The bedroom was rather small and in need of re-decorating but the bed was comfortable with lovely white bedding also bathroom clean with fluffy white towels . The Resturant staff were extremely efficient polite and cheerful . The food was excellent could not fault it at all from the breakfast to the evening meal . Would certainly recommend The Royal for its hospitality and excellent food. It’s situated just across the road from the train station and is central to all the shops , Roman baths and cathedral . Will definitely return .

Many thanks for your review. Thank you for your compliments regarding the quality of our reception staff, the comfortable bedding and overall cleanliness of the room and bathroom It was also good of you to highlight the quality of the food and the service which you received both at breakfast and at dinner. Thank you for recommending us to others. With regards to the decoration of the room, I can assure you that none of our rooms have peeling wallpaper or scuffed paintwork and I can only assume that when you said the room was “in need of redecorating” then what you meant was that you did not like the style of decor. As you will be aware from our marketing material The Royal Hotel is a Grade II listed building built over 150 years ago and we make every effort to retain its character with appropriate decor schemes which are recommended to us by a professional hotel designer. Indeed, one of the attractive aspects of The Royal is that the bedrooms are all individually decorated to be in keeping with the size of the room, number of windows, etc., thereby creating an individuality which you will not find in more modern hotels. For your further information all of our rooms are redecorated on a 3 year rolling cycle. I appreciate that decor is very much a personal choice and it may well be on this occasion that the decor of the room was not to your liking The good news is that you plan to return and we very much look forward to seeing you on that occasion. We booked a four night package over Christmas at the Royal Hotel and were not disappointed! The initial booking was handled by Heidi, reception manager, who we had several subsequent conversations with. She is friendly, highly organised and efficient, which was a great start.

We booked a four-poster room (there are two at the hotel and well worth the supplement). The hotel is right in the centre of Bath, opposite the railway station. A slight negative is there are only six car parking spaces, which need to be pre-booked and fill up quickly. We used the Manvers Street Car Park, which is £15 for 24hrs so you will need to factor that into your costs.

The biggest asset at the hotel is the amazing staff. They are led by general Manager Mike and Deputy Manager Lena, who work tirelessly and incredibly long hours. They lead their fantastic staff by example. Neither of them seemed to mind what they did and pitched in doing whatever was necessary. Every team member seemed happy in their jobs and were all focused on customer satisfaction. Special thanks to Judith and Margaret who served us during the Christmas period, they were fantastic - nothing was too much trouble.

All in all a great value Christmas package with lovely extras like Champagne & snacks in the room on arrival, complimentary Champagne with Christmas dinner, a table left on each floor to help oneself to chocolates/biscuits, fruit etc and a coach tour around Bath organised for Boxing Day.

We will certainly return and if you do decide to book for Christmas, do not miss the midnight service at the Abbey on Christmas Eve, it is very special!

My husband and I stayed at the Royal Hotel back in November 2019. Overall we are very happy with the hotel. The rooms are a little smaller ( especially for American standards), but still very charming and had everything we needed. The room was equipped with a TV that allows guests to log in to Netflix, which surprisingly not a lot of hotels have yet. It also had the basics such as kettle, coffee maker, tea bags, etc... The bathroom had everything we needed. Perhaps our favorite amenity was the towel warmer. This is not something that we Americans are not used to. But given the somewhat chilly weather, this was a welcome surprise.

The location was another great aspect of this hotel. Bath is small enough where you can walk anywhere, regardless. But it was very convenient when we arrived and left as it's a few minutes away from the bus station and right across from the GWR station that took us back to London. It's also close to a lot of restaurants, shopping centers, and convenience stores. Also, very close to the Roman Baths .

One thing to note... On the day of our departure, we asked to leave our luggage in their storage since our train didn't leave until mid-day and we wanted to walk around before leaving. They kindly allowed us to but were told we had to get our luggage to them early as its first come first serve with very limited space. Luckily we didn't have any issues there but something to consider.

We also opted for the breakfast which was great! In addition to a hot plated meal that included sausage, eggs, and veggies, you can also get continental breakfast items such as pastries, yogurt, and fruit. Service was great and we were very happy.

All in all, we definitely recommend this hotel.

Final stop on our tour of Somerset, we parked the car at the large shopping centre carpark £16.00 for 24 hours which we had no issue paying as arrived at 10.40am and spent rest of day walking around Bath and its pubs, checked in at 3pm to a lovely little twin room with a very spacious bathroom with old style taps and a small card advising the water may take a little time to warm up. Bed was cozy and very clean with usual tea and coffee facilities including bottle water. Breakfast was excellent with a lot of choice from full English to smoked salmon.

Hello Gina - the hotel has car parking for 6 vehicles at the rear of the hotel, so may well have bike storage as well. The railway station is opposite the hotel - there are bike racks there, but I've no idea about the security aspect. The hotel staff will be able to give you better informed advice.
