Historic hotel facing Wells Cathedral (only one room with views of it we were told, as a gatehouse blocks most of it), so right in the old heart of Wells. Our room was quite small but adequate, with a king size, extremely comfortable divan bed. The on suite was small which didn't really matter for a one night stay. It...

Hello all, would really like to thank the staff for a fantastic welcome and service throughout the weekend. In all I found the building comfortable but a little lacking in historic charm, which I'd really hoped to find. You could really do with a real fire and a cosy bar. My room was fine, comfortable, nice and warm and furnished...

Went for a girly weekend and thoroughly enjoyed. We took up the opportunity of dinner, bed and breakfast with a half bottle of wine (at dinner!). The food was all high quality and adventurous. Only downside is limited and tight parking so book a space in advance

Great location. Their guidebook says they're renovating the rooms but I guess they hadn't reached the one I stayed in yet. Sheets, towels and surfaces were clean but the decor was a bit shabby and the bathroom was really showing its age with blackened grout between the tiles and a shower that didn't drain fast enough. The staff were really...

The hotel enjoys a great location, with easy access to the city, Wells Cathedral and Bishops Palace. Another plus is that parking ( at a charge) is available. All the staff encountered were friendly and helpful - so far so good! However, our room really should not have been sold as a Standard Twin. The beds were comfortable with quality...

We visited as part of a conference at the Cathedral. The staff were polite and helpful and everything appears well looked after. Because of our commitments elsewhere we didn't sample the restaurant except for Sunday breakfast. Due to our early start a cooked breakfast was not available but juice cereals and toast was on offer. The hotel building itself is so...

We stayed here for just one night to visit the area of Wells. Check in was simple and the staff were very friendly, taking us up to our room. The room itself was a good size and the king sized bed was very comfy!! The bathroom had a loo and a shower, however it did look a little dated. Shower...

I didn't actually stay because I'm an idiot and was booked in at the The Swan (Best Western) next door. This is simply a shout-out to the lady who booked me in, even though my booking wasn't there (surprise! wrong place). She was great: really friendly and accommodating. The room I had for about 10 mins looked nice and had...

We stayed here to visit City. We had a room that was used as a secondary fire exit ,cold although there was a fire provided. Breakfast was a farce, no smoked salmon 2 days , I asked for 2 poached eggs well done / tomatoes. I had 1/2 tomato, underdone eggs. Stewed coffee. No fresh fruit and no sugar provided...

Outstanding location and very friendly staff, especially the receptionist who couldn't have been more helpful. Extremely comfortable bed and good quality linen, always nice. Very good breakfast ( particularly the yoghurt and compote) and I'm sorry we stayed on an evening when you weren't serving dinner (our mistake!) The only blip was the heating not working in the bedroom, but...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Recently taken over by new owners (September 2015) the 15th century White Hart Hotel is situated in the city centre just 10 short steps from the famous Cathedral. Its 15 en suite bedrooms make the perfect base from which to explore Wells and the surrounding area. The restaurant serves locally sourced British food cooked by Head Chef Matthew Briddon (River Café). Wells is a medieval city nestling on the southern side of the Mendip Hills with the mystic Somerset Levels stretching away to the south and west. The history of Wells goes right back to Roman times when it was known that there was a settlement, probably because of the springs that bubble up here. Wells gets its name from these springs which can today be found in the gardens of the Bishop's Palace. Bristol, Bath, Glastonbury, Glastonbury Tor, Cheddar, Clarks Village, Wells Golf Club and Longleat are all close by. ... more   less
