Room 5 is to be avoided limited view as it faces street very steep stairs could be difficult for folks with walking difficulties although room looks like it has had a recent makeover, clean bathroom shower only , beds a little hard floor does slope but due to age of hotel one expects this, no parking you are reliant on...

This hotel is in one of the best locations in Wells. Looking out over the Cathedral lawns and only a five minute walk to the market square. You have to know that the hotel is in part actually the boundary of the Cathedral, some parts of which were built around 1400 ... yes that long ago! The stairs are narrow...

We had room 7, it had the most amazing view of the cathedral and was magical to open the window and listen to the bells, the room is totally charming with a comfy bed and clean modern bathroom with a lovely power shower, the gate house is so charming, the stairs to the room are steep so bear this in...

Another great stay at the Ancient Gate House. The rooms are full of character and charm with comfortable beds and so many features that show the age of this wonderful building to the best advantage. The staff are friendly and attentive. We left some things in our room which were posted to us immediately. The food in the restaurant is...

Our room that overlooked the Cathedral Green on the first floor was delightful. Bottle of water and tissues provided ( not restocked 2nd day). Bright clean decor in the room and bathroom, but nowhere to put anything in the bathroom except in/round the bath.No hotel lounge or place to sit and have a drink. Restaurant staff are professional and pleasant....

Welcomed by a very helpful, informative and charming young lady on the Reception desk, who told us to park in the Cathedral Green - as...

Spent one night there in room 12 priced £100 for the night. It was at the front of the hotel on a noisy road opposite a night club. That aside, the room was small, the chair broken, only one bedside lamp, no where in the bathroom to put towels, they had to be piled on the floor. The room was...

Stayed here for just one night at the beginning of March, while on our way to Devon. The room was smallish but quite adequate and really nicely decorated. We had a great view across the green to the cathedral. WE dined in the Italian restaurant on the ground floor and had very enjoyable meal. No parking - you are reliant...

We were lucky enough to stay in the gatehouse room, up the spiral stone staircase, above the walkway and overlooking the green with good views of Wells Cathedral. The four poster bed was comfortable for myself at least. I think the walls and ceiling could do with being a colour other than beige to provide a little more mediaeval setting....

Lovely view from our room, very helpful and friendly staff. Restaurant is Italian with a very good selection on the menu, we had evening meal and breakfast really lovely. Had an enjoyable short stay. Parking near by can be a bit of a problem.
