We had a lovely night in Room 2 which is the pink four poster bed room. The hotel is a little tired with some unusual smells but we loved our room and the location is perfect. The staff are all very welcoming and efficient and we had a nice breakfast, not across the road as has been mentioned in other...

The Ancient Gatehouse is a very old hotel, and so very quirky in layout, but that just adds to the whole experience of staying there. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and couldn't be more helpful. The hotel has all the mod cons even though it is old. The place is spotless. We stayed in Room 2 which had...

We stayed here as it was convenient for Goodfellows restaurant & we only wanted to stay for one night and our ususal choice of hotel only allowed for a 2 night stay which we did not want. This hotel is not our normal type - but we had a good time & it was good value for money. We stayed...

A fantastic central location. Seconds away from the cathedral. Clean, comfortable room. Four poster bed. Great breakfast. We did not have a cathedral view byt it was a relatively kast minute booking. I woukd definiteky recommend if you stay enquiring about the actual gatehouse room!

We stayed here after visiting friends and enroute to family - the Christmas travelling! Room was cosy with squeaky floors but the view of the cathedral was just amazing! We ate in the restaurant and is was lovely. Super spot for visiting the area and just enjoying some time away from it all!

A wonderful, old hotel. My room was at the top of the spiral staircase, with uneven steps - so beware and take it easy with the wine at dinner. The room was a good size, although the bathroom was a little tight to move in, but not an issue really. The location by the Cathedral and being a stone's throw...

I had a very comfortable stay at the historic Ancient Gatehouse hotel in Wells; my room, at the top of a steep staircase, looked straight out across the Green to the West Front of the Cathedral, a breathtaking view. As I was there with a literary society that devotes itself to the ghost story, the little spooky passageways and medieval...

We loved this ancient and unusual hotel. We were given the room over the gatehouse, which was amazing. The corridor and stone spiral staircase up to the room is not for those with dodgy hips, or the fainthearted, but wonderfully medieval. This is quite the oldest place I have ever stayed in. The room was a bit small, as a...

This place is old so expect quirky steep staircases, modest sized rooms but in a great location with some stunning views! Ok, so the décor is not brand new, and the bathroom was a little dated, but the bed was very comfortable, the breakfast was fine and we had a great stay.
