Serendipity guided my wife and I towards the restaurant at The Angel in Bury St Edmunds after we had spent a relaxing afternoon at a local cinema. We entered looking for a glass of wine each and left an hour and a half later comforted by the experience of a really fine meal. Although we declined both starters and puddings...

We went here last October as my birthday treat. Having heard great things from friends, I was looking forward to my afternoon tea. And I wasn't disappointed! We were given the choice of a variety of teas & cold drinks, a lovely selection of sandwiches, homemade sausage rolls & scotch eggs & brilliant deserts of chocolate eclairs & lemon drizzle....

Stayed for a Friday Night package that included evening meal and breakfast for £180. The hotel is very pleasant. We were upgraded, which was lovely. Our room had an enormous bed and was light and airy with original and interesting decor. None of the windows opened as it was on the ground floor, there was air con (not needed on...

We stayed at this hotel a few weekends ago and it couldn't have been any better! Right for the start the valet who parked our car spotted us from out the front and came straight over to help us with all our luggage and we had a lot of it but he only kept reassuring us it was no problem....

We stayed for 2 nights as we were attending a wedding at nearby church thus the location was ideal. However the room, we had upgraded to an Impressions room, was very small with very limited cupboard and hanging space. It was too small for both of us to get ready for the wedding thus we took it in turns!!! The...

Recently booked Angel Hotel's function room for Easter Monday celebratory lunch . From start to finish the staff could not have been more helpful, from the General Manager Charlie to the duty Managers Craig and Georgina, to the waitress on the day, all were professional, friendly and efficient. Seating was already laid out for our own private party in one...

The experience from the moment you arrive at the Angel Hotel is great, personnel that get customer service, a really good room, comfortable bed and details done well, like high quality bits and bobs in the bathroom. This place is a real find. Only minor criticism is that breakfast could be a bit quicker to be served, but it's not...

We stayed here for one night on a business trip and it really was a lovely hotel. The room we were given was spacious and clean with a view overlooking the car park not great but not a big deal. The bathroom was ok could do with a makeover but served its purpose. The bed was large and comfy with...

the room we were given was lovely, spacious and opulent. Had a wooden four poster bed, two chairs, dressing table and plenty of storage. The bathroom was also fairly big with a bidet. The staff are very efficient and friendly. The wingspan bar below the hotel is a very fascinating place to have a drink with table service making it...

We booked an Ivy View Suite (£200 a night), which whilst very spacious was several years overdue for redecoration. The peeling wall paper and tatty furnishings were really not acceptable, so we paid to upgrade to a Contemporary Suite on a special offer. Although 'suite' was a stretch, the upgrade was to a nice spacious room. I would not have...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This Georgian ivy clad 4 star boutique hotel and restaurant in Suffolk surprises with a twist of urban chic. Our Suffolk hotel is right in the heart of Bury St Edmunds town centre and everything is just a step from here. Explore winding, cobbled, shop filled streets and a plethora of ancient architecture on the doorstep. Once inside, The Angel Hotel is a curious contrast of comfy contemporary design with touches of exotic grandeur. Warm leather sofas vie for your company in the lounge, which is filled with curiosities, pop art, eccentric oddities and cool vintage furniture. It is a hotel of many different aspects all artfully blended together into an exciting package and the bedrooms are no exception. The Angel Eaterie has a great reputation and dining here is a culinary treat. Take the steps down into the decadently curious Wingspan Cocktail Bar & Lounge located in the 12th Century vaults under the Hotel. Wingspan is the perfect location to meet with friends, for pre-dinner drinks, or simply to relax after a long day. ... more   less
