This is a wonderfully, relaxing place to stay. The rooms are obviously old but quirky and very clean. The bar is great, roaring log fire, papers, comfy chairs etc. The food I'd delicious with a good varied menu.

The Angel is I very comfortable hotel with attentive staff. Car parking is well managed, I simply left my keys at reception and my car was parked for me. Breakfast was nicely presented and efficient. The rooms were comfortable but with little or no desk space, more of a dresser than a desk provided. Good central location and ideal for...

Attractive hotel, full of charm & character. Lovely greeting by the receptionist, informative. Car parked for us, nice touch. The room was charming. Clean, coffee, tea & bottled water in the room. Some lovely period features. The bed & pillows were divine, you melted into them. Bathroom was dated but had a charm about it. Very clean with good products...

We stayed a night at the Angel in order to go to a show at the nearby Apex. We got a great rate for an off-season break with a multi-course afternoon tea and cooked breakfast for £145. We had our tea in front of a lovely log fire - sandwiches, freshly made scotch egg, scones & cream and more cakes...

The waiting times for our drinks in The Wingspan Bar on Saturday evening were horrific (20-30 mins) for 3 bottled beers and 6 cocktails (all the same cocktails too) and it was not particularly busy. I ended up being a waitress and collecting our drinks, may as well have opened the bottles of beers myself. Such rude service and not...

We visited the Angel Hotel for one night in January where we had booked one of the Ivy view suites. They were advertised on the website as being "luxuriously rich, fabric draped rooms" and more specifically the Ivy view suites being "designed with exquisite fabrics" and a "deft attention to detail". For a mid priced room in a "luxury" hotel...

We called into the Wingspan bar following a beautiful meal from a neighbouring restaurant where 25 of us had been for my 50th birthday . Thought to end the evening cocktails would be nice!! 10 of us arrived , the barman refused to serve as he said they only served seated people .He was rude and the expression on his...

Across the street from a 1,000 year old Abbey, we were easy walking distance to a number of incredible buildings and churches. The hotels high tea was a treat to experience for this visiting American, and having an evening brandy in the bar under the hotel was just a good story "for the grandkids" (it was built as a vault...

Visited by my wife and me on 20/01/17. The seating in the lounge was very comfortable and spacious. We each received 5 different savouries, some were very tasty, the others less so. We then had a large fruit scone with clotted cream and jam each, which were very tasty. My wife was particularly impressed with these and she bakes her...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This Georgian ivy clad 4 star boutique hotel and restaurant in Suffolk surprises with a twist of urban chic. Our Suffolk hotel is right in the heart of Bury St Edmunds town centre and everything is just a step from here. Explore winding, cobbled, shop filled streets and a plethora of ancient architecture on the doorstep. Once inside, The Angel Hotel is a curious contrast of comfy contemporary design with touches of exotic grandeur. Warm leather sofas vie for your company in the lounge, which is filled with curiosities, pop art, eccentric oddities and cool vintage furniture. It is a hotel of many different aspects all artfully blended together into an exciting package and the bedrooms are no exception. The Angel Eaterie has a great reputation and dining here is a culinary treat. Take the steps down into the decadently curious Wingspan Cocktail Bar & Lounge located in the 12th Century vaults under the Hotel. Wingspan is the perfect location to meet with friends, for pre-dinner drinks, or simply to relax after a long day. ... more   less
