I was here for a couple of nights for a business reunion in September 2015. I'd never been to Lavenham before and was amazed at the number of historic buildings here, and The Swan itself is no exception, dating from the 15th Century, with picture postcard exterior and wonderful oak-beamed interior. From the moment I arrived the service was excellent...

The hotel is a wonderful historical building lovingly updated to provide a great hotel and spa. The restaurant is fantastic, the room great and the spa a wonderful experience. Only reason not for a 5* rating was our meal in the brasserie on Friday night. We arrived late (8:50) but within serving hours. The meal seemed a little hurried with...

We were delighted during our stay - the upgrade to the hotel has preserved the history and charm of the place - well in keeping with the town of Lavenham itself - with the comfortable upgrades and comforts of modernity that we wanted. The breakfast wait staff were friendly and responsive and the food was uniformly very good, and in...

Wonderful historical building in very special village. First proper visit to Suffolk, won't be the last and The Swan was the perfect spot to stay whilst exploring the area. Very comfortable bedroom, understated style without any silly pretentions. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestling in the Suffolk countryside, between Bury St. Edmunds and Sudbury, is The Swan Hotel & Spa in Lavenham, perhaps one of England's most iconic hotels. The Swan dates back to the 15th century when it played a key role in Lavenham's wool trade. Today it is a quintessential English country hotel and restaurant, proud of its achievement of AA 4 Red star, two AA Rosettes & Visit England Large Hotel of the Year 2013. Ancient oak beams and inglenook fireplaces blend beautifully with rich furnishings and fabrics to create the perfect ambiance for rest and relaxation. The historic old bar boasts a wonderful collection of memorabilia, including a wall signed by British and American airmen stationed at Lavenham Airfield during World War II. The Swan is a wonderful place in which to celebrate a variety of special occasions, including romantic weddings, christenings and family get-togethers. It is also a unique venue for seminars, meetings and conferences, where 15th century inspiration combines with 21st century innovation. ... more   less
