I have visited this pub on many occasions and actually have never been disappointed. This week we went with a group from work to trial the new menu. The waitress was very kind and accommodating. Restaurant had a slight move around and I preferred it. We sat on the right at the back by an old bread over which was... More

Been wanting to try this place again for a while, unfortunately they are no longer doing the carvery which I am told was really nice. The Starter was good, cheesy garlic bread huuuge portion and very tasty, gooey, garlicy, cheesy yummyness. Opted for a roast as my main dish, when the lady explained that you don't get to choose which... More

We had a great meal at the Dukes last evening - it was the first night of their new menu and this proved to be very good! There is still a smattering of burgers and steaks, but with a South African and Portuguese twist, along with "potjie" and other traditional South African dishes. It's fabulous to see our local getting... More

This pub has been so inconsistent over the past few years. We were both very excited when we found out it was under new management but sadly we haven't had very good experiences since. We have ordered food a few times and found it very lacking. The ribs in particular on one occasion were so tough I struggled to get... More

I stopped by to eat at this establishment and although we found the staff very polite what we ordered in the way of food was not very good. Our dinner was not hot and we asked for something to be done about it which was not taken on board very well. I paid the bill and left.

You could easily miss this little gem. A lovely open fire to welcome with friendly staff and great choice of food. Would recommend for a cosy Sunday lunch or evening meal throughout the week. Great deals available during the week with a good choice of beer.

Very excited to see that or local is now on the up again! It's under new management and I've never seen it as busy. There's a much better atmosphere with the new juke box and I have heard rumours of bringing back the live music! The food (which has always been very decent) remains very good for pub food. Definitely... More

A lovely pub just off the southbound A24, offering a fantastic menu. The host was accommodating, welcoming and friendly. The only reason we haven't given five stars is that we felt there could have been more mushrooms in the starter. We will certainly return.

we were to eat at the crown at nearby Capel but after they very rudely told us they had no food we descended on the Dukes Head instead. They were most accommodating to a large party at short notice. They gave us a great welcome and excellent food. We shall be returning.

Today our walking group hit a problem when a pub in Capel was unable to provide any food at lunchtime. A phone call to the Dukes Head at Beare Green, just 15 minutes drive away, confirmed that they would feed us. The manager and his team gave us a warm welcome, moved tables and served us a whole range of... More
