Just stayed for 5 nights to explore the area, we are IHG reward members so stay in quite a few HI hotels. Cannot fault this hotel. A warm welcome and thorough check-in, Room was on the smaller side but adequate for what we needed, upon arrival the sofa bed for the children had no linen, reception sorted this out whilst we went for dinner. Good variety of buffet breakfast options, at check-in we were advised that we may have to wait for a table due to it being busy but over the 5 mornings only once was there not a table available immediately. Had dinner in the hotel on the Sunday night, some options weren’t available but plenty other options to choose from. Plenty of parking. All the staff were approachable and accommodating, nothing was too much bother. Highly recommended and will definitely return.

I am normally a fan of Holiday Inn Express, but this was an exception to the norm. I called in advance to ask for a sheet and blanket instead of a duvet, a request that has been fulfilled at other hotels in the group, only to be told that they do not supply blankets and that I would need to bring my own, which I did. However, when I got to the room the sheet was just left folded on the end of the bed, so I requested that they make it up, which they did while I was having my dinner. Even with just a sheet and light blanket, the lack of any AC, meant that I was too hot to sleep, so I opened the window and discovered that there was a very busy road just across from the hotel. I had a dreadful night's sleep as a result and felt exhausted in the morning. Similarly on the second night. The room and bathroom were both clean, and the wifi worked, breakfast was acceptable, staff members were helpful, which is why I have awarded them two stars and not just one.

I like the Holiday Inn/Holiday Inn Express brand. It is up there with the best of better budget properties. Our stay started off well before we arrived. I phoned to see that there are mugs in the rooms (as opposed to paper cups)and reliable lifts. The receptionist was so helpful, and because I have a knee problem said he would ensure we were on the ground floor. Which we were. We always find Tyneside a lot warmer than home in deepest Aberdeenshire, so kept the window open. With the curtains closed at night, we did not notice any traffic noise. In fact, there was very little noise whilst we were in the room, from inside or out of the hotel. The reception area is nice and bright and gives on to the lounge/bar area, and the breakfast buffet point. Because the lounge is off the main door area, there is plenty of fresh air for covid paranoids like me. Our room was standard double room with desk/tv area and hospitality tray, sofa bed and lovely comfy bed. Shower was great, and always loads of hot water. And lovely very white fluffy towels. Breakfast included toast, croissants, muffins, fruit compote and yoghurt, various cereals, orange juice butter/spread and various jams. The hot section was gorgeous bacon, so-so sausage, hotel style scrambled eggs, and baked beans- these were good, and I'm picky about my beans! There were bread buns and also brown paper carriers and throw away wooden cutlery for your grab 'n' go Have to say staff all friendly, helpful, efficient. At breakfast, the tables were cleared and sanitised as soon as free, and anything short on the buffet was replaced quickly. I have to make the following observations. The hotel, whilst well maintained, is a bit tired, so needs a bit more than a lick of paint/a bit of TLC, but that did not affect our stay I would say that the clocks in the reception desk module were broken- sad for the Brand. Also, I guess due to pandemic/pindemic/high season/general staff sickness, there were occasional kitchen problems. On day there were no beans. On Sunday, we went for a snack at tea time and all that was on offer was pizza due apparently to staff shortages (I don't eat pizza except in Italy) Finally, position. There are TGI Friday, and Sambuca restaurants a local restaurant called Skiff Inn, which is excellent and a below average KFC drivethru/sit in, within 200 yards. Newcastle city centre is a short bus ride, as is Metro Centre, or for your average shopping Blaydon has a Morrisons, Boots, B&M and drugstores as well as a McDonalds (untried-Ive never had one!),and is only 5 minutes by car.

Dear Margaret, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us. We are thrilled to see that you enjoyed the majority of your stay from the room cleanliness and towel softness to the breakfast variety and the gorgeous bacon!! We all work hard during the breakfast times to quickly get all used tables cleared and sanitize to get all our guests seated quickly and efficiently. The staff is thrilled to see you found them friendly and helpful throughout your time here. Our full dinner menu should be available 24 hours and I am saddened to see that on the day you did require a snack this was not offered to you and I will investigate with the team on shift to see why this was not an option. We do take all comments on board as we always strive to improve our service and facilities available to our guests. We do hope you can stay with us again in the future. Kindest regards, Katie Taylor | Team Leader

We had a very pleasant stay and found the hotel very clean and well organised even though it was fully booked. The staff were great and had time to deal with people in a caring way. All in all this is a great value for money hotel in a very good position. There is also a great pub serving excellent food less than 100 yards away.
