Room and bathroom were large. Decor was tasteful although desk area was a bit tired and could have done with extra lighting by the long mirror but that's being picky. There was some noise from the street outside one night. Reception staff were lovely and helpful. Would stop here again.

Hotel reception room lovely, as was Leila's bar and breakfast. Rooms clean and well presented. We booked 2 rooms. Deluxe double and a single under one booking. Both rooms were noisy. In the Duluxe double, we could clearly hear the street, foot steps above us and in the corridor, but put it down to the old building fabric of the hotel and tolerated a disturbed night's sleep. One of our group was in a single room with a locked interconnecting door to a standard double room taken by an unknown couple not in our group. As couples often do in Hotels, they were lets say 'enjoying' their night together ..... but every gasp, moan and bed knock could be heard through the interconnecting door for much of the night through to the morning and so next to no sleep was had by guests in both rooms. We complained to the hotel in the morning about the lack of soundproofing via the interconnecting door which, if they are selling to separate bookers. should be better sound-proofed, or should only be sold to bookers in the same group. Hotel wouldn't accept they were at fault in any way, offered no monetary compensation and even advised that all the rooms are equally noisy (to counter my assertion that the single room is particular not fit for purpose/sleep) Despite obvious fear of reprisal in complaining against someone in the next room, the hotel team nevertheless still put the onus on the person suffering in the inherently noisy room to report it at the time it was happening so their porter could speak to the couple (in the belief their porter would be able to stop them from continuing their vocal love-making). Conversely, the receptionist told us in the morning that 'you can't stop people having fun' and I tend to agree with her. If you want a reasonable night's sleep, I would avoid this hotel.

Lovely receptionists and stylish reception area. We stayed on a Weds. night. The hotel is really well situated. As we stood, for about 10 minutes to order cocktails (3 people working, about 3 tables being used) we were told by a harassed looking lady that they were closing soon (it was about 9.30pm), as she ran around, somewhat impacting our enjoyment of our drinks when they eventually arrived. I wish I’d remembered the reviews about the noise when checking in, as you can’t mistake it. All the hen parties who had entertained us passing the bar earlier were shouting full blast until 12.30 am, and even though I slept solidly after that, my husband was woken up at 3am as they left the club. We were on the 3rd floor, they really need to sound proof the windows. Our room was “ok”, (well styled but small double bed and a foot either side) and directly off the stairwell. Our daughters was slightly better. The stairway carpets need a good clean. Breakfast had attentive service, and, (sorry I know this sounds picky) I just didn’t like the “have you had breakfast with us before?” - why ask, it has connotations of a Harvester if you’re like me and old enough to remember, and there is nothing unusual in their ordering set up - just an odd phrase to use. I did ask for 2 items off the menu, and offered to pay any extra (granola followed by poached eggs on toast) and was told I could have “a small one” - hilarious! So in summary, either choose your room carefully if the noise is an issue for you, or choose elsewhere. By the way, we had lunch in the Muddler across the street - fantastic!

5 of us visited for a 40th birthday weekend break in Newcastle. From the moment we checked in we knew we were going to love our stay. The ladies on reception were really friendly & helpful, they got us checked in quickly and helped us take our luggage to the rooms. We had a Double Deluxe with Z-bed and a Standard Double, the rooms were amazing. Really chic, great size, beds were super comfy and fabulous White Company toiletries. We called reception a couple of times for ice and extra coffee sachets and someone was up straight away, great service! I booked this hotel on behalf of our group and everyone was impressed. We had a late lunch table booked at Leila Lily’s, we were give a fabulous little booth that overlooked the main dining room. We sampled loads of cocktails which were all delicious & looked fabulous. The food..... it was amazing. Three of our party had steak and one commented it was one of the best they’d ever had. I had Korean BBQ burger which was so yum and another person had Salmon, who loved it too. Every single plate was empty, that says it all. Definitely worth the money, just loved it. Location is brilliant, right in the centre with everything in walking distance. Once the car was parked up we didn’t need it again. Well done to the teams at Grey Street Hotel & Leila Lily’s you made our weekend unforgettable.

Lovely hotel with beautiful decor. Our room was perfect, staff were all really friendly, especially Mollie who checked us in and out! Located perfectly for everything - you’re pretty much in the middle! The longest we walked to get to anywhere was 10 mins. Brilliant!
