The Welcombe is a calendar country house located on the edge of Stratford-upon-Avon and the beautiful Cotswolds. It's a calendar house because it has 7 entrances, 12 fireplaces, 52 chimneys and 365 windows. Perfectly located within walking distance of Stratford-upon-Avon yet not far from the A46 and M40 motorway, this oasis has ample free parking on site. There's also 78 comfy bedrooms and 7 spacious apartments for groups of friends looking for a relaxing retreat, a wonderful spa with hydropool, an 18-hole championship golf course and acres of landscaped gardens which make for picture perfect wedding memories. Of course, if indulgence is on the menu, you can't go wrong with the award-winning menu, a classic combination of great British produce and seasonal specialities crafted with charm and innovation.

On one of the hottest days of the year it was disappointing to find the air con didn’t work, the replacement fan just couldn’t cope with the heat so it was a long night. The grounds and outdoor spaces were nice and can’t wait to visit again and take in a round of golf.

My husband & I booked a last minute overnight stay for Tuesday 20th July 2021. The hotel looked nice & was clean on arrival although the grounds needed some maintenance. The hotel seemed to be short staffed, which was noticeable mainly at meal times and in the spa area. We were advised there were no treatment bookings available until September although we weren’t told why (as the spa was advertised to us at the time of booking) until we spoke to the main reception desk, who advised the lack of availability was likely due to staff shortages from covid & brexit impacting the business. Whilst disappointing, we obviously understand the situation is probably unavoidable at this time, however the rudeness from who we assume was the spa manager, was unacceptable. Quite blunt and curt in his tone and essentially made us feel like we most unwelcome and certainly shouldn’t be there. Almost pouncing on us as we entered the building. Not good at all. The evening meal was also disappointing. The waiter serving us didn’t appear to know either the food or wine menu. We both ordered steak, no steak knife provided until we asked for them when the meal was served, and no sauces offered at the point of ordering (peppercorn) so we weren’t aware the option was available. It was only when we asked for condiments when the meal was served that the sauce option was offered and so we had to wait again for this to arrive. A dirty wine glass on the table when we arrived was pointed out to the waiter. This wasn’t picked up by him and we had to ask for it to be changed. The waiter was also quite abrupt and appeared rushed. I understand the rush during peak periods when short staffed, but the bluntness/abruptness is just not the level of service I would expect. The stay fell during a particularly hot period and the hotel rooms did not have air conditioning, although the main meal room did. Whilst there was a fan provided in the room, it was a pretty uncomfortable night. Overall, just a disappointing experience. It is the first break we have had, like many others I would guess, in the past year and a half. Whilst I do think the staff were working in difficult conditions considering the current circumstances, and we are happy to make allowances for this, we were most disappointed by the impolite attitude of some of the staff. I should stress that this was by no means all staff, the lady on reception and Pete the barman were friendly, polite and approachable. Hopefully this is a glitch during a stressful time but unfortunately we are unlikely to return in the future.

Very disappointing, gentleman in spa was rude and unhelpful. Evening meal poor quality and selection, wine warm, room not ventilated, furniture being moved noises across hard floors at 6am, poor quality room for price, no spa treatments available even though advertised due to “no foreign workers” and thoroughly disappointing- probably the worst stay we have ever had in such an establishment over the decades. Ruined our first time away from the children in 18 months!

Beautiful place but the room we had looked tied. Previously stayed in an apartment there which was great but the hotel room this time left a lot to be desired. Lunch was good but they seemed understaffed at the bar and the staff said it was because the hotel was changing hands this week. Grounds and the function rooms are fabulous. Also nice to sit in the sun on the terrace. Spa is excellent and the golf course is superb. For the price it was very disappointing

Wow, what a place. My partner and I stayed in the apartment "Montagu" and it was truly fantastic. Incredibly well furnished, clean, fresh, with fantastic facilities, plenty of parking and just a 2 minute walking distance from the main hotel block / spa itself. The gardens are so well maintained and to die for. The breakfast was good. Your standard continental / fried breakfast with good service and very polite staff. The elegance and refined experience you get here is fantastic. Charming, calm, quaint and well worth it for a romantic getaway. The spa facilities are like no other. Many various rooms, crystallised ice fountains and the pools are of a perfect water temperature. Unfortunately there were no treatments available for myself or my partner to book at such late notice. But will definitely be staying / booking in again. I'm so glad I found this gem in the gorgeous Midlands Countryside, just a stones throw from Stratford-upon-Avon town centre. Be careful if your car sits low. My M3 (standard M Suspension) scraped a speed hump on the way up to the Apartments.
