I read the reviews and was a bit unsure-but i'd go back. It is a big house, maybe you'd expect scooby doo to come along and investigate hauntings but that's called character. Not all hotels are standard brick box shaped places. This is not a chain hotel it is a couple running their own business so didn't have the resources...

Was visiting the University for an open day with my daughter. The hotel (really it is a B&B as it has no other services) is old and dated and not really up to today' s standards (probably not changed in over 30 years except for the odd lick of paint). We booked a twin en-suite room and paid for breakfast...

I booked the Awentsbury for my father's funeral tea. There are a dearth of places doing this in the area. Awentsbury specialises in such arrangements and is very reasonably priced. I booked for 40 and there was plenty of food and hot drinks to go round. It was simple and plain but completely perfect. No fuss. Lovely people. Highly recommended.

But, that's about it. When you arrive, there is no reception and depending on the time, you need to ring the bell to be let in. If you are used to the uniformity of the chain hotels, the Awentsbury will be a massive culture shock. Tired furnishings and a very 50's feeling, with lots of closed doors and uninspiring paintwork....

Met by a lovely old man at the door, ushered me in to an old building, lots of character, clean and homely. Very small room, but very cosy, with a shower and tv. Couldn't ask for more for the price, If you are looking for a bland generic 'luxury' hotel go somewhere else, if you are looking for a quirky...

Needed a reasonably priced hotel in the area for a stayover after a party. This hotel was lower priced than most in the locality and was available. Stood at the locked front door for ten minutes ringing the bell when we arrived before being let in. Owners need a personality transplant. Bedroom was basic and in need of some tlc....

I stayed with my girlfriend for one night because Birmingham was fully booked, so we didn't have any better choice. It was a nightmare! We booked a standard room on the phone, but arriving half an hour later, the rude owner informed us that the room that we booked HALF! an hour earlier was not available, so the only available...

My friend and I stayed here recently for a couple of nights for an event in Birmingham. Theres not alot of hotels around the outskirts and the ones in city center are expensive. We opted to mind the pennies and booked this place. Overall I can say that the hotel is more a B&B /guest house. The exterior gave off...

Arrived to be told we couldn't use the shower in our room as it was being replaced. Must have taken the booking knowing that would be the case but no effort made to tell us. No one answered the door so had to phone. This top floor room was poorly maintained and quite noisy (pipes or generator.) No handle on...

Unwelcoming. Very poorly maintained. At breakfast waitress challenged us as to whether we had booked (and paid) for breakfast. Light fitting over the bed sparked and fizzled when turned on. Bed comfortable though

“My tip would be to simply book a different hotel! Or at least check there's a shower in your ensuite.”
  • Hole where the shower had been removed
