Decided on the Thursday after seeing the weekend's weather forecast that on Saturday I would walk to Howarth from Burnley (14 miles) and spend the night in Howarth. Decided on the Old White Lion, not because it was the cheapest (it wasn't) but because of it's location in the village, perfectly situated at the top of the hill and pretty...

We visited as it has a good range of vegetarian options. I had the Thai curry which although had 4 chilliest ratings wasn't that hot but it was tasty. My partner had the parsnip nut loaf which was a bit stodgy. The service was excellent and should receive a four star rating whereas the food didn't match this standard

Called in on the off chance of 2 rooms after deciding to stop in Yorkshire another night. The blonde receptionist was very welcoming and helpful. The room was fantastic for the price and the breakfast was superb and plentiful. I will definitely stay again when in the area.

Broccoli & Stilton! Just what we wanted on a cold, wet March day. An atmospheric traditional pub, dating back, it is believed to the 1750s. Brasses, framed sealed indentures - so different to today's identikit chains. Also has accommodation for visiting Haworth and its surroundings. PS The soup was delicious!

This was trip down memory lane for us having visited the place for lunch on numerous occasions over the years, but we had never stayed before. We had two rooms one was okay but the other was very small with a tiny bathroom. The receptionist and staff were excellent as was the food. The selection of beers and lagers were...

The hotel is in the centre of all of the tourist excursions and attractions. The receptionist within the hotel was extremely helpful and the breakfast was above and beyond. Surrounded with a historical feeling, the Bronte Parsonage and Church was very close. The tourist center has many souvenirs and was informative. Recommended.

Just got back from a one night stay. We had the family room (no.6). Very friendly staff, the receptionist who checked us in was so helpful. The room was spacious and very clean, lovely bathroom. The only drawback to the room was it got a bit cold in the evening and very noisy early morning with deliveries. We had an...

Very noisey with average amenities. Overpriced . Would not return . The shower was just a dripping tap . Can't understand why people rate the food . The filter coffee tasted of scent . And the breakfast was average with cold toast . The beef on the main meal was tough as old shoe leather and almost impossible to cut...

Firstly, everyone is so friendly it was lovely. The food in the restaurant was AMAZING and so reasonably priced. Nothing was too much trouble. We stayed in room six which was great. Very good value for money. Yes it's a bit dated in decor, but it's not offensive. I would say they need to look at the sealant on the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The 300 year old facade of this former coaching inn hides the fact this family run hotel combines charming olde world features with thoroughly modern facilities. Situated at the top of the famous cobbled street, walked by the Revd. Patrick Bronte and his famous family. In more recent times as illustrated on TV in Hovis advertisements. This is very much an establishment where food and drink are taken seriously, and dispensed along with hospitality in good measure. Warmth, comfort and a relaxed atmosphere prevail throughout the 14 en-suite bedrooms, beamed bars, restaurant and oak paneled lounge.Freshly prepared food is provided by the highly qualified chefs. Keeping up with modern trends, without ignoring the popularity of old favourites. Featured in major food guides the Gimmerton restaurant is open every evening. An extensive range of reasonably priced bar meals being available in the cosy bars, where real ales are prominent. Exceptional value breaks available both mid-week as well as weekends throughout the year. ... more   less
