The 4* Legacy Rose & Crown Hotel is an original 13th Century coaching inn located in the City of Salisbury with stunning views across the River Avon & Salisbury Cathedral. There are many original features lovingly retained. The original section of the building still boast its wooden beams through-out and our Oak Bar also enjoys the log fire that is lit in our winter months. A selection of Feature and River View Rooms are available along with our original beamed rooms, please ask our reservation or reception teams for details & availability. Our Pavilion Restaurant where the hotel serves Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner to residents and non-residents offers picturesque views of Salisbury Cathedral and the River Avon combined with ‘Sheep in the meadows’ by constable. Our modern Avon Bar which has kept its original beams and other features is the perfect place for meeting friends. We offer Morning Tea & Coffees, Afternoon Cream Teas & Coffee, Lunches and Dinner and drinks through-out the day.

Beautiful hotel set on the edge of the river Avon. Lawns running down to the river - lovely time sitting outside watching the river go by. Spacious room with very comfortable bed and delicious breakfast. Kind and helpful staff. Ideal location for Salisbury centre - there’s a lovely walk from the hotel over the little bridge and along the path by Salisbury Cathedral then through little arches to the shops and cafes. Step back in time through our history. Definitely a great place for a celebration or wedding.

Room overlooking the river and garden. Views were flooded but no fault of the establishment. Room was clean and comfortable. Bargain price at £70. Nice breakfast and staff were welcoming and polite. Would stay again at the legacy. Thank you.

Following on from a visit to Chewton Glen in the New Forest, we had a spare night to fill before going on to London. We decided on Salisbury, and booked the Rose and Crown Hotel. This is a very old establishment dating back to the 1300's I think. It has a black and white "tudor" style fascia, and was clearly something like an old stage coach station. We booked in and were very kindly offered an upgrade, which was a room in the roof space with pitched beam ceiling, on suite and a four poster bed! Very nice, great value. We had booked for dinner that night and there were about 10-12 staying to eat. Food was fine, a sharing platter to start, followed by a curry for myself, and pasta dish for my partner. Good basic pub food, but well prepared and presented. One great thing about the hotel was it's proximity to the city centre. The hotel was located on the banks of the river Avon, and a very short walk, 10 minutes maybe to the beautiful cathedral and the city centre. By the way don't miss the opportunity to see one of only four original copies of the Magna Carta, a world famous document located in the cathedral, and believed to be the clearest and best preserved copy around. All in all we had a good time at the Rose and Crown, location, room, staff, accomodation were all pretty good, and great value for money.

Overall experience was positive. Just a few niggles which we don’t usually complain about. Everyone loves a good night sleep. Unfortunately the mattress was not very comfortable. It’s dipped in the middle and wasn’t very good if you’ve got a bad back… That was our room experience. The restaurant for breakfast is pleasantly laid out very clean and comfortable. However the food could’ve been kept fresher. I eat the cooked breakfast. For example bacon was a little bit crispy and the hashbrowns are dried out. But on the positive side, your fruit Everything that you want for breakfast to choose from. It would’ve been nice to have decaf, percolated or filtered coffee, which they didn’t have only decaf instant sachets.. But the waitresses in the morning, were very attentive and very pleasant, particularly Alice. She was a sweet little thing. And couldn’t do enough for us so well done Alice!!! The hotel has good parking, beautiful views of the river easy access to walk into Salisbury and see Salisbury city centre and the cathedral However, would we return yes..

We arrived at the hotel but room was ready and were able lo check in. The room was great, though bathroom a little tired, and the view from the room fantastic with a raging river and cathedral in the background. The hotel is just a short stroll to cathedral and town centre. We ate in the restaurant which had a couple of local beers on tap (great). My wife had a pasta dish which she loved and I had the steak which was fine but perhaps a little underwhelming . Not many eating there but I couldn't say the waiting staff were attentive. Room was very quiet until at 6am the fire alarm went off so we all congregated in the car park on a cold but thankfully dry morning. Turned out to be a false alarm but had to wait until all checked out. Presumably just night staff on duty but they seemed to handle everything very well and kept us informed. Breakfast was good except the machine coffee and tea was poor. So a few niggles but overall I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if in Salisbury.

Potential: 10/10 Attention to detail: 2/10 Nett result: 3/5 So many little things that need sorting out. Light fittings to be fixed, dusty furniture to be cleaned, dead flies to be removed, bathroom mould to be removed, squeaky doors to be oiled, etc. etc. The breakfast service would benefit from more attentive staff and hot water (not warm water) for the tea. Attention to detail is so important and this place could be so much better than it is.

We just spent two nights here and were made really welcome on arrival. Our room was clean, tidy and very comfortable. Tea and coffee making facilities were provided along with hairdryer, iron and ironing board. Toiletries were good quality. Breakfasts were amazing. with a very wide range of buffet style food available including well cooked options. We ate at the hotel on the first evening and the food was very good. The dining area overlooks the river which is very pleasant. Staff at the hotel were all extremely friendly and helpfu and made us feel well looked afterl. The location of the hotel is ideal. It is in a quiet area but within easy walking distance of the cathedral and museums areas and only about 15/20mins walk to the further reaches of the town.

Where do I start ..... myself and my daughter were in the Cardinal Suite. It was in the historical part of the hotel with old beams and original doors. The room was tastefully furnished in keeping with its age yet with everything you could want. Hidden in cupboards are robes, slippers, ironing board, hairdryer and an extra warm blanket and fan if needed ( they wernt) complementary prosecco and half board were part of this fantastic deal. As was a locally sourced full hot or cold breakfast. Right by the rivers edge and close to town. The staff at the hotel were welcome, friendly and genuinely chatty. Couldn't do enough for you. We love this hotel so much. Can't wait to go again.

Great check in and very helpful. Lovely location with views over to the cathedral. Lovely beer garden next to the river and I’m sure in better weather it would be enjoyable to have a drink there and watch the world go by. Not sure if we were given the correct room but I did book a deluxe double but it was more standard. As it was late decided not to complain as it was ok. The downside was it was the old part of the building and windows weren’t double glazed (expected as probably listed) so the road noise was quite bad through out the night. Breakfast was really good in the morning and seemed to be local produce. All in all not a bad visit but if we’d had one of the newer rooms it may have been so much better.

Dear HappySunshinePaphos, Thank you for providing us with you feedback on your most recent visit to the property. I'm sorry that you did not enjoy the deluxe room we had allocated to you in the original 13th Century wing of the building. As you correctly identified that wing of the property is indeed listed and as such is not double glazed, I am sorry however that you found road noise to be intrusive during the night, typically the road adjacent to the hotel is very quiet during night time hours, I can only apologise if this was not the case. Thank you for your feedback regarding our breakfast and our riverside garden and terrace, which are indeed idyllic in the summer months. We hope you will revisit the hotel in the future and if you do please feel free to mention in your booking notes that you would prefer to be placed in the newer wing of the property.
