A few yards from the Usk Road you turn into a shady driveway and moments later you are in front of this great Edwardian Lodge and behind it the wonderful gardens of Penpergwm Lodge. You may not be greeted by Mr Tumnus but will certainly be greeted by Maud and Margot the owners two friendly little dogs without even passing... More

Simon and Catriona are just the most charming hosts, nothing was too much trouble, yummy breakfast, eggs, bacon, delicious jams, proper coffee, beautiful garden and we would go back like a shot. It's just like being in your own home, log fires, cosy rooms, so relaxing. Beds really comfortable,

We have stayed at Penpergym several times now and absolutely love it. The huge Edwardian family home in its own beautiful grounds is delightful and Simon and his wife so welcoming. Yes the home looks lived in but it is, it is clearly a family home that's why it is so welcoming and comfortable. Guests get their own sitting room... More

I have been staying at Penpergwm Lodge for the last decade. Why? Because it is a proper bed and breakfast. Simon and Catriona make you welcome, don't fuss and provide a roaring fire, great beds and peace! And best of all great value.

I discovered this lodge on the recommendation of Sawdays web site by a friend. What a find it is. If you are after imacculate decor this is not the place for you. If you are after a warm welcome and personnal service with crisp linen and clean bathrooms then this is the place for you. You are invited in as... More

First I strongly, strongly suspect that the five-star reviews for this place are paid for and false . You've been warned. I stayed in this place in September, The pictures they show must've been from decades ago, the house and gardens are in a severe state of disrepair.. Everything is stained and ripped... Carpets, furniture, bedding etc. The house is... More

Had a great warm welcome from Simon and the little dogs. The bedrooms were so comfortable and the beds were great. Breakfast was great - super selection of fruit, cereals and a full English. We loved exploring the garden and after a crazy day in Cardiff it was lovely to come back to the peace and quiet of the house.... More

My family and I stayed here for one night supposed to be two. How do I start, the pics of this property must have been taken 30 years ago the house, garden and rooms are in a state of degradation. The rooms are full of spiders, moths and cobwebs from not being cleaned, the sheets, were ripped, the bed 30... More

Not for those who are put off by the odd cobweb but an absolute delight: hygienic, beautiful, charming, helpful. You will end up feeling like a guest at an event that will be a hybrid between P G Wodehouse and Stella Gibbons. The gardens are just magical: we could only stay the one night but sat in the loggia with... More

We had one night only here after staying with friends. It was a lovely experience with comfy well appointed rooms, a fire set in the sitting room with tea and brownies on arrival (full of all the books I read as a child!) and a delicious freshly cooked breakfast. The gardens are something to behold and already had masses of... More

“Any are nice, but some are above their sitting room near the front door, and one or two of the others may be over the kitchen. We were given the quietest rooms.”
