We ventured out for a 3 night, Bank Holiday 'staycation' and we were pleased to stay at this lovely Guest House in the town of Brecon. It is ideally situated for exploring the surrounding area and is a lovely little town. The hosts, Christine and John were very friendly and welcoming and did an absolutely cracking breakfast!! We loved it. Nothing was too much trouble, extra toast available etc if you wanted it. There is also tea, coffee etc available for your room. Christine was very knowledgeable about the local area, which was good, as we had never been before, despite it only being about 2 hours from our home. Before our arrival, she emailed me details of local places to eat and the best places to park. The guest house is really cosy and very clean, and much effort has been made to keep people safe during the current Covid climate. We would highly recommend this lovely B and B. (Little tip if eating out. You really need to book in advance, as we found that most places were fully booked (we imagine due to Covid restrictions), when trying to book on the day. The Clarence Inn, over the road from Ty Helyg, we loved, as the staff were really friendly, the food good and was reasonably priced).

After a last minute decision to go away for the August bank holiday weekend, we stumbled across Christine & Johns delightful Guest House. From the point of booking we were not disappointed.
In the run up to our trip we were graced with recommendations from Christine herself on places to eat and what was on offer in the area. Highly recommend booking in advance for eating out, primarily due to the current times let alone the fact it was a bank holiday Weekend.
Tŷ Helyg Guest House have adapted to Covid-19 in a highly professional manner yet maintained the charm and character that Christine and John have clearly worked hard to build up. We knew in advance of the changes that had been made and the policies that had been put in place. Initially we thought it may feel ‘clinical’ but this feeling melted away within minutes of arriving, it’s crystal clear this Guest House is a home away from home.
We were greeted and checked in by Christine, with a beaming smile and friendly ‘Hello!’. Straight away we felt like this weekend had been the right choice. We were guided through the changes in place and what we could expect and what was expected from us. Nothing that shouldn’t be a surprise or difficult for anyone to manage. We then placed our order for a cooked breakfast in the morning before heading out for an last minute evening meal and drink at The Wellington Hotel.
The room itself exceeded expectations, a double room with a king size bed. While some decorative items had been removed and it was obvious cleaning was set at a very high standard our room felt warm, cosy and had a fresh feeling. The initial anxiety of entering a ‘clinical’ space was gone within seconds. During the stay our room wasn’t serviced but this was easily managed with our own pack of wipes for a couple of days. Christine and John were just a message away if we needed any extras for the room and they were always happy to go above and beyond.
As a couple who are constantly talking about food, the breakfasts did not disappoint. Freshly cooked full English or smoked salmon & scrambled eggs. Copious amounts of tea/coffee and slathering of jam & butter on golden toasted bread. What more could you ask for? How about pancakes served with bacon & syrup or compote & fruit, an ideal bank holiday morning treat. Nothing ever felt like Christine & John we’re going out of their way for you.
Brecon itself has lots of areas to explore and discover, an ideal ‘walkers’ getaway. Just a 10 minute drive away we parked up and made our way to the summit of Pen y Fan, with the weather on our side it blew the cobwebs away and the stresses of the last 5 months started to feel like a long gone memory.
Overall we would highly recommend you book a room at Tŷ Helyg Guest House. Christine & John alone are a reason we will be booking with them again.

My wife and I stayed at this property for 3 nights during June and we were very happy with the service, room, and breakfast. The owner was lovely and couldn't do enough to help us. For example, my wife is on a plant-based diet and the owner wanted to make sure that she had the necessary ingredients for both the breakfast and room refreshments.
The room, linen, and towels were all clean and overall the property was quiet even though located on one of the main roads leading into Breacon. The location of the property means it's only about a 3-5 minute walk from the town centre.
Overall we had a fantastic experience during our stay.

We were a family of 4 who visited Brecon Beacons and considering we booked this at the last minute, Christine was very helpful and accommodating and managed to get us 2 rooms almost next to each other. All the comms were sent out before we arrived.
The rooms were clean, very spacious with tea and coffee making facilities provided in the room. Breakfast was delicious with a good choice. The location was walking distance to the shops and restaurants and short drives away from the national park and waterfalls.
Both Christine and Robin were wonderful hosts, friendly and cheerful.
We would definitely stay here again whenever we go back to Brecon Beacons.

Had a lovely stay at Ty Helyg Guest House for one night on 6/07/21 with my husband. The guest house is so full of character with modern facilities. Our room (Taf) was big and the bed even bigger and very comfortable. Our room overlooked the Main Street and we slept with the window open as we always do and their was no noise or disturbance at all. We woke very refreshed. The Welsh breakfast was delicious and piping hot served with homemade jams. Breakfast is staggered amongst the guests but you choose your time and it works really well. Christine the manager was very friendly caring and attentive and nothing was to much trouble. Brecon is a very pretty quaint town with lots of pubs restaurants and coffee shops to suit all. Ideal for walkers and the Brecon Beacons. We took a trip on the Brecon Canal aboard The Dragonfly which was very relaxing and informative. Not an awful lot to see but we did one lock and an aqueduct which was fun and interesting. Trip takes about two hours in total.
Unfortunately my husband had a fall in the street but Christine was so kind and caring and helped with a little first aid and kept checking through the evening to make sure he was ok and if we needed anything. We will definitely go back for another visit and highly recommend Ty Helyg Gust House. Thank you Christine.👍👏😀😀

Stayed here recently with my wife and had a lovely stay. Very welcoming and accommodating hosts, lovely breakfast with fresh local produce and a very convenient location to walk into the high street. The only reason we are not giving it 5 stars is that our room (dog friendly)/bathroom was quite small. Parking is possible on the street outside, or like we did around the corner in the theatre car park (free). Would recommend staying here as a basis for exploring Brecon or the Beacons.

Response from tyhelygbrecon, Manager at Ty Helyg Guest House
Responded 1 Feb 2020
Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review about your stay with us, it is great to get feedback as it helps us to see where we can make improvemnets. Interestingly we have recently switched our dog friendly room from a standard double, with yes, you've guessed it, a bigger bathroom, to the King bed room which has a smaller bathroom but offers more floor space for our canine visitors. We will continue to monitor feedback on this and will review again in a few months, but sincerely appreciate your comments. John and I are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and appreciated all the other aspects of your visit. Please mention this next time you book and we will see if we can offer you an alternative room. Very best wishes Christine and John

Christine and Robin were the perfect hosts for our Mountain Bike weekend in Brecon. The location, yards from the Town Centre, was ideal - after a long day in the saddle - with many pubs/restaurants just minutes away. The (precious) bikes were safely stored inside, albeit more than 4 might be a struggle, room wise. The bedrooms were spacious, clean, comfortable and breakfast had enough cooked/fresh options for the healthy and carb hungry guests before cycling in the hills. Christine couldn't do enough for us and the evening guest lounge and honesty bar are a nice touch where we could unwind. Highly recommended.

What a fabulous gem we have found in Ty Helyg Guest House 🥰
The hosts are knowledgeable, accommodating but most of all friendly.
We had a fabulous spacious room (No9) which had everything we needed including a dressing area a separate additional sleeping area and a delightful bathroom. The very large bed was perfect with lovely crisp white sheets that you just don’t want to leave.
The Georgian property is full of character as you would expect and is located close enough to explore the town Centre, enjoy the local amenities and friendly establishments ( very friendly)
The breakfast was delicious and plentiful, just as we like and nothing was too much trouble, set us up for the day.
Christine recommend the waterfall walk which was perfect, followed by a lovely Welsh cream tea in a local hideout way up in the hills, perfect.
Well done Christine your lovely smile and warm welcome was very much appreciated. If we could we would have allocated more stars, we will definitely book again hopefully for longer as a weekend goes far too quickly in such wonderful surroundings 🥰🏴
Well done for managing to maintain high standards in such challenging of times. 👏👏👏

This was our first visit to Brecon during the current restrictions in place due to COVID. Christine is a superb host and even with all the necessary social distancing and safety being observed we were very comfortable and relaxed. The rooms are spotlessly clean with everything in place to feel at home. I thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast with a great choice of freshly cooked local produce on offer. A lovely experience overall.

My wife and i stayed here for a couple of nights over the weekend.
Christine is the perfect host, very attentive and showed real care with our plans and was very willing to contribute with suggestions.
The B&B is on the main road going into Breacon, 100 yards from the center and perfect for the local restaurants and shops, there was a little noise from the road but didn't keep us awake.
One slight negative, this is a very old building some parts built in the 1700s which meant there was very little insulation between the floors. We had the misfortune to have a family sleeping above us and when they moved about or talked your could hear every word and every floorboard creak above us, this wouldn't have been a problem however they woke on both mornings at 5.15am it sounded like they were trying to get there steps up for the day!
This shouldn't put anyone of staying as its a perfectly good B&B and the positives far out way this minor negative.
Everyone staying should try the Hop In restaurant and bar just 50 yards from the B&B, the food and drinks are amazing.

I'm so sorry for not responding sooner, I've only just seen this message.
Sadly I don't have any ground floor rooms although I'm sure there are others in Brecon who may have.
Regarding parking, there is a 1 hour restriction on parking just outside the guest house and in nearby Rich Way, this operates between 8am and 6pm which effectively gives you parking from 5pm until 9am. On the opposite side of the road there are no restrictions whatsoever. If you can’t find parking in either of these areas then the Theatre car park at the end of Rich Way is the best alternative, there is a small charge to park here – overnight parking is set at £1 for the night I believe, you will see that you are required to feed the meter again at 8am however we have an arrangement with the Theatre whereby if our guests display one of our compliments slips on the dashboard they will be given an hours grace allowing them to have breakfast before making a mad dash to the car park. We don’t need to use this too often though as generally you can find street parking. We are very close to the town centre and as with lots of other guest houses in Brecon very few properties have their own parking.
I hope that this has assisted you but if you have any further queries, please don't hesitate to ask.
Kind regards
Christine Crockford
Yes we do! We have a vegetarian breakfast with veggie 'sausages', mushrooms, scrambled egg and tomato. We can also do a vegan or coeliac breakfast too. Look forward to seeing you. Lee and John
