The Wellington Hotel garners appreciation for its vibrant atmosphere, often described as wonderful for socializing and enjoying live bands. Guests have called out the hotel's high standards of cleanliness, noting the pristine condition of both the rooms and the pub area. While many travelers commend the friendly and professional service, there are occasional mentions of slower, less organized experiences.
Room comfort generally receives positive remarks for space and tidiness, yet some guests have encountered maintenance and temperature control issues. Opinions on value are split, with praise for reasonably priced services contrasting with criticism of the food's cost and quality.

We called here for a meal on 25.1.20 had a value for money meal all cooked well and the service really good so no problems with that. The hotel had a band playing that night and what a great band it was. The people where singing along and dancing and it was a fantastic atmosphere. The band played for 2 hours non stop great entertainment so glad to see live music in pubs and hotel other than when the jazz festival is on. I will be back for more especially if The Semantics are playing again what a band. Thanks Wellie for a great evening.

We stayed here for one night on route to Tenby last Sunday. We booked through booking com 2 rooms. We sent a request through booking.com to ask if okay to bring ourdog,we received a message back from the hotel saying this was fine and no extra charge for this. When we arrived the receptionist asked if we knew that their was a £20.00 charge for the dog,we said we had already asked about this via booking.com and had received a message saying that was fine and no extra charge She asked bro see the email ,so showed it to her.We went into restaurant to have a drink and Meal and The Manager approached us while we were sat there and asked if he couid see the email regarding the no charge for the dog He came right up behind me to look at my phone. He asked if the email was off booking.com ,I said wasn't sure ,then he walked off saying I'll get this £20.00 back off them . No sorry for troubling you or any niceties. We asked the waitress who we had also seen earlier on reception if he was the manager and she said he was and we said it was strange that we had been asked twuce for proof of the email. She apologized for that.We found this man very rude and we felt like all he cared about was his £20.00 . ,not that we had paid for 2 rooms and were also spending money in the restaurant. Bad customer care and general respect . The rest of the staff were really lovely. Charge em for the mice, charge em for the Lice, charge them for looking in the mirror twice. Master of the house !

Having worked in hospitality for much of my life I am understanding of a lot of situations and stresses within the industry, but this place really wasn’t good.
We were ignored upon arrival which my friend found very awkward. I get it that polishing cutlery is an importaservice standard but could one of the three team members doing it on the table next to reception have helped us or acknowledged us? Clearly not. The place wasn’t even busy. After a long 10 minutes we were greeted and checked in. We were led through a courtyard which could have done with a good sweep and the fag buts and litter removing from the plant pots. Would have also been an idea to remove the dead plants too.
The room really wasn’t clean, thick dust on the tv, pictures and shelving. Grime around soap dispensers and on top of the bin, a stain of several dots on the ceiling (no idea what that was!) and the worst was the carpet. You quite literally had to wipe your feet on the way out. It had clearly not been cleaned for sometime. You had to brush your socks off before putting your shoes on. (Pictures attached) Also, the hair wash bottle in the shower was totally empty.
We were asked to pay £85 (excluding breakfast) on arrival and I can see why. As I would assume people who make the mistake of staying here begrudge having to pay in the morning. It was certainly not worth the price! It was like walking into a place where people just didn’t care and it felt like it had not had a manager for sometime.
After speaking to a local lady in the high street, she said the Wellington is not a popular place and she would not recommend we eat there. Instead she recommended the Old Ford Inn just out of Brecon which we went on her recommendation. It was a good choice and was delicious food and a friendly welcome with good service.
For breakfast, which wasn’t included in the £85, following the state of the room my friend did not want to risk the kitchen being off a similar poor standard of cleanliness so we decided to eat at the Wellington. Breakfast at the Wellington would have been a further £10 each. We instead had breakfast at the Wetherspoons, a 5 minute walk away where for £6.20 we had a full English and bottomless coffee. I never thought I’d say it but compared to the Wellington, the spoons was paradise! Clean and very friendly staff, good portions and good service.
When we checked out we were not asked how our stay was and I imagine they try and avoid that question to avoid an honest response!
I never normally complain and I am fair in my reviews to places I visit. I have also shared my views with Marstons Head Office who look after the ‘Brains’ Pub estate.

Location was great. The rooms were basic, but that was expected, however one does expect at least a minute or two of warm water to shower with, but that wasn’t possible on either of the 2 times I used the shower in the room. The following morning, we ventured down to breakfast to be told the grill wasn’t working so no toast with the English breakfast. Fine, I can stomach that. 10 minutes later, the same chap came back to tell us they also couldn’t do us sausages or beans with the breakfast. When I asked why (potentially thinking there was another kitchen mishap), he shrugged his shoulders and told me they’d run out of them. So, rather disappointed, we checked out and requested a refund of the breakfast element of our room charge to which they obliged. The following day I received my refund of £15.90, however just one day later, the hotel, without my authorisation, they charged me £15.90 again. Unsure as to why, I called the hotel and explained the above situation and why I’d received the refund. I couldn’t quite believe me ears when the guy on the other end of the phone (he told me he was a manager) told me that there was in fact breakfast available on Monday morning and I was incorrect. I made it clear what had happened, that we’d been told there were no sausages or beans and the guy immediately hit back with, YES THERE WAS. Anyhow, after asking him if he thought I was lying and agreeing that I wasn’t and in fact, maybe he has no idea what’s going on in his own ‘hotel’, he agreed to refund me again.
In summary. Great location, rubbish hotel, rubbish staff, non existent food.

The hotel room was decently taken care of. There were signs of aging and touch ups. The room did had signs were they had missed cleaning stuff, like water in the kettle and cup rings on the bathroom sink. It is in an attractive area though so it’s worth it. The food was not good though. They brought us our appetizer and it was literally uncooked. After sending it back 15 minutes later it came back cooked. It was ok. The buttermilk chicken was ok, I think a good southern boy needs to give this guy a few pointers like no using panko bread crumbs but using a flour mixture instead. The chicken and bacon pasta my wife had was not good though, at all. It was pretty much pasta soup. It was quite certain this chef did not add any cheese to the heavy cream when he made the sauce or even reduced it much. The chicken and bacon were not seasoned at all either, just boiled. Pasta soup. Not a big deal for us but they were unable to accommodate breakfast due to a chef leaving on family emergency. That is acceptable, family first always, but I guess that means they’re short staffed on chefs. Less acceptable but Covid. Stay here if you’re looking for something convenient but don’t eat here.

I’d give zero if I could. This place is filthy. I have stayed on 2 occasions for work in 2 different rooms and both were as bad as each other. The lights didn’t work in the first room and there was no tv remote in the second! The place is essentially falling apart and they still charge £70 a night - laughable. Given we are coming out the tail end of a pandemic you’d think the cleaning would be up to scratch but it’s quite clear the rooms aren’t being cleaned at all - my colleague found loads of black hairs in the bed, suggesting they hadn’t even changed the sheets. As if the filthy rooms weren’t bad enough, on both occasions there had been people shouting at each other in the room next door, screaming at the top of their lungs through to corridor at 11.30pm. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

Stayed in the family room for 1 sweltering night in June. No air conditioning. No phones in room so no ability to call reception. They provided a fan but only 1 socket in the room 3 m from the bed so it had almost zero cooling effect. The windows had wires on them to limit their opening so were effectively pointless. Shower was very weak and almost impossible to set to a comfortable temperature. Toilet was not clean on our arrival and the soaps in the shower were empty and needed to be restocked but clearly whoever had “serviced” the room beforehand simply couldn’t be bothered. There is NO parking available unless you have a disabled sticker then you’ll be sweet. My advice is to avoid this town completely.

We visited the Wellington Hotel for the first time, with friends, to attend the Fan Dance on the 18th January. We received such a warm welcome by the owner, Shaun, who did everything possible to make our stay an excellent one. We ate on the Friday night and the food was superb, good size portions, tasty food and at exceptionally good prices. The bar boasts a warm and friendly atmosphere, perfect to socialise with friends and our dog who also received a warm welcome accompanied with lots of doggy treats! The bed was so comfortable, we had a lovely sleep. Thanks to all the staff at this hotel - we shall be returning again soon.

We stayed here for a weekend to go exploring around Brecon for hiking etc. The Wellington is an ideal location for this, with just a 15 minute drive to Pen Y Fan and about half an hour to some other amazing spots.
The room was ideal, nice comfy bed and a newly refurbished bathroom which was great for having a bath after a long day of walking! We also had a little dog with us and they were very accommodating of this.
We went downstairs to have food one of the evenings, which was great value for money and good sized portions. The sticky toffee pudding is a winner.
Also a big shoutout to Jamie - he made our stay all the more enjoyable by being super welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Thank you Jamie!!
