I stayed here recently as part of an organised group run by SVL Adventures (see facebook) we stayed for 2 nights and it made an excellent base camp for day one where we explored the waterfalls at Ystradfellte and for day two where we hiked up Pen Y Fan and the surrounding area. The accommodation was clean and had everything that we needed, it is around 4 miles away from Brecon. We were in the 10 person bunkhouse. See my photos attached to this review. Because we were out in the sticks with no light pollution, and it was a clear night, the sky was littered with stars and it was wonderful to see, we even saw the meteor shower on the first night. The bunk beds were comfortable and the under floor heating meant it was a comfortable temperature. I took a sleeping bag with me, the kitchen was stocked with plates, cups etc, fridge, kettle and microwave

Warm and comfortable accommodation. 10/10 for the showers - a nice shower is a key indicator for me and these were warm, powerful and did not run out of hot water for our large group acros the whole weekend. Self catering cooking equipment was adequate for a group looking to self cater. Beds were ok, two-up bunks with reasonable headroom (not the three-ups we have experienced in some bunk houses). Showers, toilets, common areas and bedrooms were clean enough with no shocks. Lots of parking. Lovely views to watch the rain come in, or enjoy the sunshine, which seemed to alternate minute by minute during our weekend! Good location for Brecon Beacon kayakers as a variety of grades of river sections are within 40 mins or less, so a good base camp.
Bring your own towels and sleeping bags, pillows and bedsheets provided were clean and in a good condition.
In job applications, I was always taught that one should describe ones weaknesses as an over-emphasised strength (eg, "I'm a profectionist", "I am a stickler for detail", "I find it hard to leave when a task is not finished", and so on). On that basis the weakness of this bunkhouse was that the heating was set a little too high - the bedrooms were a little too warm for all of us, so we had the windows open all weekend because we could not see how to turn it down. I'd rather be too warm than too cold though, so this weakness is an over-emphasised strength.
The common areas are upstairs with the bedrooms below, we noticed that the floorboards are very creaky which disturbed some sleepers once the early risers migrated upstairs to prepare breakfast. Most bunk-house regulars will be used to noise from room-mates and use of earplugs will solve this minor issue.
Drying room was effective - its just a shame that like so many drying rooms it also double as storage room for the proprietors.
Prepared breakfast seemed to be priced to deter uptake, but we prepared our own anyway.
