Cefn Cantref campsite is a family run site, electric pitches, clean toilet block, walking distance to the Beacons Park and a few minutes drive to Brecon itself. COVID precautions taken seriously. Recommended.

This campsite is an idyllic, hidden away campsite near the peaks of the Brecon Beacons, including Pen Y Fan. We travelled up so we could hike up Pen Y Fan and cycle around the local area. The campsite is located 5 minute drive away from the town of Brecon, up in the hills where it is quiet with beautiful views. The peaks can be viewed from anywhere in the campsite and the views are unreal at all times of the day. The host met us at check-in and was very helpful with what's around. The campsite is gated so feels very safe. The facilities were spotless with lovely warm showers and a fridge/freezer for food or ice packs if needed. The middle of the field isn't mowed and has a wild meadow feel which avoids the risk of people camping too close and ensures you have privacy and amazing views of the peaks. Absolutely brilliant stay, thank you so much!

Stayed for five nights to enjoy some hill walking and exploring in the Beacons. The site's location is incredible, with clear views across to the Cribyn and (from the top of the field) Pen Y Fan. Run by a very friendly and helpful couple who live on-site. Toilet/shower block is newly-built, spacious and kept immaculately clean, with excellent Covid precautions in place. Piping hot showers. There's also a vending machine, small communal fridge and fire pits to borrow. Just note, the field is help-yourself (no marked pitches) and on a slight slope, so arrive early if you want to secure a level area for a tent. Can't wait to visit again.

Very rude unwelcome at this site/field!!! Had to book two nights as it was bank holiday when we only wanted one but I fully understood the circumstances and was willing to pay extra but on approach to the site the owner charged up to us & told us we must have the wrong site as he doesn’t except campervans! My confirmation clearly says I booked for a campervan. He refused to refund us our money & we were left to find somewhere else to stay!! Luckily we found a lovely friendly campsite just down the road which cost a fraction of what we’d paid to stay in what was only a field with no toilet or shower facilities. If you read through the reviews you will see we are not the first to be refused entry or spoken to unacceptably & we would urge anyone to consider other campsites in the area as there are lots of other ones close by which are 100% more pleasant than this one!!!

Booked a 2 night stay with 3 friends all of us on motorbikes. Beautiful views, lovely clean facilities and well managed considering covid regulations. For motorbike camping the downside is that entrance to site is a gated (which is closed) slope and then a small gravelled yard on entering which can make it tricky on a loaded bike. Walked down into town which is a bit of a trek without any walkways but pleasurable as weather was glorious and taxi back about £8. Fire pits and logs are available to hire and breeze blocks provided to protect the grass. We will definitely return and would recommend 😊

Very poor. The owners only seem to be friendly when you are not young adults. They situated us in the nearest field to what I assume is there home. At the time this was of no issue but time and time again they would come over and invade our personnel space and set us new rules that they had just made up on the spot. They had told us we can have a fire if we use cement blocks underneath and it is off the ground. After we lit the fire the lady came over and had a tantrum about how the fire could spark and go on the fields and telling us to put it out right away. Before that she had come over and shouted and complained at us for not using the right type of wood. We used normal untanilised wood that was of no issue at all but she would shout telling us what wood We had brought. She then proceeded to move our belongings out the way so she could asses the fire better. The husband would constantly come to warn us about rules that were already explained before and got very angry over very little things. At this point we was very calm and thought because it was dry she was just worried about other fields maybe catching fire which we agreed on and said we will let the fire calm and then put it out. We had 2 guests that we told way before there check in time at 8 that they would be late but they would only need to park up and join us as we had space in tents ready for them. She said This would not be a problem and proceed to give us a tag for there car with there name and car registration on it. The check in time ends at 8. People were still allowed to arrive and set up at 21:30. Our other 2 friends turned up at around 22:00 and straight away was met with very hostile behaviour. They suggested the 2 friends sleep in the car in the lane and can come back in the morning. The man at this point had a very strong smell of alcohol on him and was very aggressive and would not let us explain or show that they had been checked in earlier that day. We packed up and left that night, would not recommend or go anywhere near this place. After speaking to others who work in the local area of Brecon they had the same ideas that these 2 owners were very horrible and would not recommend staying at this campsite.

It's a beautiful site overlooking the mountains. The staff are very friendly and it was lovely seeing the chickens and ducks walking around.
We weren't however happy with the toilet situation so ended up leaving one day early. The toilets and showers are very clean, but they were a bit of a trek from the tent. The electric pitches are furthest away. And they are closed every day for 3 hours, 11-2. I understand that most people probably are out during the day but if you are staying several nights sometimes you do stay at the campsite during the those hours. We paid extra to stay at this place because of the toilet block, so it's not very convenient to not be able to use it for three hours.

Totally unwelcoming hosts. Arrived a little early was told to come back in half an hour and do not park outside. No chemical waste facilities was Told to take it home with us 😱. We would never stay here again much nicer places to stay in Brecon with the same beautiful views and much more accommodating hosts.

Reviews of this campsite seem extremely polarised - the reason is simple: if you are noisy, thoughtless, a bit chaotic, or seeking to party late into the night, Cefn Cantref is not for you. If, however, you are seeking a quiet campsite with what my partner and I thought were the best views of any campsite we’ve known, with spotlessly clean facilities and owners who don’t put up with any nonsense, you’ll love it here. We loved it, and the owners couldn’t have been more pleasant.

Very friendly hosts, doing what they can in current climate to keep everyone safe. Very clean facilities, communal fridge was a great as a back up. Options to hire fire pit and Logs for sale too.
Great to see natural meadows and free roaming chickens.
Having a minimum age limit for children was an added bonus.
Can walk into town but need to love hills.
