booked through booking.com. Rooms looked great in photos. But they were the ones on the first floor. I got to the hotel, and you have to go to the bar to book/check in. Tried to pay with my card only to be told CASH ONLY. wasn't a problem for me but it could be a problem for others. Onto the...

A friend and I stayed in the Balmoral Inn/Hotel as it was the cheapest on Booking.com at the time. I'm used to going away on lads trips etc. and staying in some pretty bad places but the Balmoral was genuinely brutal. The lady who checked us in was friendly and showed us to our room. We stayed in a twin...

We had read reviews for the Balmoral Hotel, but we had booked the Balmoral Inn, so thought, good we're not going there, turns out they are one in the same. The Hotel/Inn is stuck in the dark ages, needs demolished and started again. Girl behind bar/reception, not the nicest either. Thank god it was only one night, will NOT be...

First impressions are not great - the hotel sign is missing some letters and there were dirty windows and dead flies in the windows. The member of staff was very friendly and showed us to our room up stairs with gaffer tape holding the carpet together. Windows were dirty with dusty window bottoms. The room was large and the bedding...

Impossible to believe the recent good revues of this terrible place. How on earth can the local Council have given this place a licence to function? I am lucky to have travelled a lot in my life including staying in some basic places in developing countries..........but this place is the worst ever.

The Balmoral has tired furnishings, but it was clean and comfortable with a nice carpet on the floor. Good value for a night in Oban when you come off the boat and you need somewhere to stay. As my room was at the back, it was quiet.

Had seen some previous bad reviews so was prepared for disappointment, but actually I was very pleasantly surprised. The room was absolutely fine. Room was quiet and restful, Bed was clean and fresh, and so was the shower. Absolutely perfect for me, just staying in Oban to catch the next ferry. Decor was not brand new, but who cares. It...

At least the electricity worked and the toilet flushed. From there it all headed south: faulty lights, broken fittings, no signal for TV, stained carpet, dirty windows, rough mattress, damp wall, peeling paint. Visitors in the 1920s probably saw the Balmoral at its best. But as John Ruskin observed: "There is hardly anything in the world that some man cannot...
