The Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa is often commended for its spotless, spacious rooms equipped with modern amenities and comfortable furnishings, nestled in a prime location close to the city center yet peaceful. While the hotel's gym, spa, and the serene views are highlights for many guests, some have noted the pool's temperature can be brisk and have experienced a non-operational jacuzzi. The staff's friendliness and helpfulness are well-regarded, although there are occasional mentions of service delays. Opinions on value for money are divided, with some guests finding additional charges for parking and beverages steep. Despite generally being a quiet retreat, a few visitors mention noise disturbances.

Our party of 2 adults and 3 children booked a family room and a twin bedder for 2 nights which came with breakfast and dinner. The family room could comfortably accommodate a family of 4, with its 2 double beds, with the added bonus of a Nespresso machine. The only setback was that the family rooms were on a floor of their own, so our other room had to be on a different floor.
The rooms have everything you need for a comfortable stay, including complimentary bottles of still and sparkling water in the fridge, and quality Elemis toiletries. My only gripe was inadequate hooks in the bathroom, with the only one high up on the door, not quite reachable for the not so tall occupants.
The hotel has a good spa with a heated swimming pool, sauna and steam room. Covid control measures were good, with bookings required for swim slots, and staff throughout the hotel were suitably masked. Meals in the restaurant were decent, with no long waits.
Along with its central location within easy walking distance of the city centre and the nearby V&A Museum, and free parking, this hotel offers unbeatable value.

Hi Team,
This was my second stay at your lovely hotel and would love to come back again and I know I will (I wish I had more time with the Jacuzzi as it closed for maintenance, which is perfectly fine as I learnt the flooring needs a redo, but an estimated 5 weeks is a bit too long) My main purpose of visit was celebrating my 14th Marriage Anniversary coupled with a visit to the Lightship LV North Carr, where I am a Volunteering Engineer.

I am an MSc (Mature) student in the University of Strathclyde, Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering (NAOME), enrolled in a one year Postgraduate Program in Sustainable Engineering: Marine Technology. Professionally I am an accomplished Marine Engineer with over two decades of experience and have been around the world and have worked with companies of repute.

As with my previous review, I would reiterate about the unnecessary changing/cleaning of Bed Linen and Towels on a daily basis and Guests should be given an option of choosing to let the Housekeeping change them or let it be the way it is, suggest not to be made a rule or a strict Hotel Policy as force creates dissent. This is not uncommon and a lot of reputed Hotels around the world adopts this policy.
I know Scotland is blessed with Water but what about the Power consumed by those Industrial Washing Machines and Driers.

Also I don't see the point of asking for a tray charge for Room Service. My wife fell sick and didn't move much, the few times she left the room was for the Breakfast and once going for an Indian Buffet Dinner at the restaurant bang opposite to the Apex hotel (Quay side, Victoria Docks) I guess one has the right to be lazy during holidays and in my case a bit of a predicament, but charging to carry a tray sounds bit strange, try doing away with that.

My husband and stayed at the Apex Dundee from their first day of opening post lockdown for a three night stay. It was not our first time at the hotel and yet again, we really couldn't fault the place.

The breakfasts were well organised with great choices, no "pick you own" buffet though ordered and brought to your table, which I actually preferred and I do hope that the hotel continues with in order to save on food wastage and other peoples manky hands and greed! The room was comfortable and clean with the added bonus of a little "Welcome pack" containing hand wipes/sanitisers and masks, we brought our own though a helpful touch, I do like the Apex for the soundproofed rooms, you will simply not hear those above or either side, perfectly quiet and thick curtains which allow for a great night sleep.

Overall the hotel was exceptionally clean, I noted that a cleaner was working on very late in to the evening sanitising the lift buttons and other public spaces, we felt quite safe with the safety measures undertaken by the hotel as part of the phased return to "normal" that we in post "lockdown". We also found all members of staff to be incredibly helpful and more than willing and happy to help with any request, all were so friendly a really great team and it appears that they work well together, however we noted a few unreasonable guests demanding their own way which is typical, though unfortunate, hence please excuse any negative feedback shared since Monday 20th July 2020, the day that the hotel opened. Bear in mind that this hotel had been closed for months with Management and staff having had some major readjustments, they must be congratulated for all they have achieved.

Well done to the Apex team, a group of individuals who are an excellent brand ambassador for the company.

This is a typical modern Hotel - good waterfront location, efficient reception, good bedrooms / bathrooms, WiFi and TV. The disappointment is the quality and presentation of the food which spoils the visit. The breakfast buffet is now a global commodity and so a common standard is more or less followed. Here, eggs were a special order and so you have to wait for that, the bacon was so dry and overcooked that it was inedible as were the sausages and there was no sign of porridge which was unusual and missed. Dinner was also disappointing and overpriced for what was served. My Starter order of Avocado showed little effort with half mashed preparation. My Main Course order of Jumbo Prawns arrived with one skewer and about five prawns on a long oblong plate - and nothing else, no garnish, no decoration, no sign of any effort to make them look appetising. I then ordered Brocolli just to have some nourishment ! Following that disappointment, I ordered Coconut Rice which was a portion of slightly under-cooked creamed rice with a little coconut sprinkled on top. Again, there was no sign of any effort to make this dish enjoyable. By the way, those Jumbo Prawns worked out at about Stg£3.00 EACH. This kitchen needs urgent attention and the poor standard is enough for me not to return.

Stayed at the hotel for a 2 night business trip. Recently renovated, the hotel is exceptionally clean inside, the only down side being the spa facilities are currently closed for renovation (although they do offer the ability to use the local pool facilities as alternative). Looking forward to seeing that part of the hotel in the future.
The room I got was large and had excellent views. The specific room I got also had a patio door with limited opening for obvious reasons rather than window, which I found much better to get air into the room as hotels can get warm during the night. Huge bathroom with both bath and shower for choice. Despite facing the Tay bridge, there is virtually no noise from outside. Breakfast was great with plenty of choice and specials you can get made to order. My only criticism was the evening meal in the bar, I ordered a posh sandwich which I did not enjoy, this could be down to personal taste, but I found it bland and expensive, and is probably my only real criticism, hence 4 rather than 5 stars. The restaurant menu did look more appealing so maybe I should have eaten there. If you are looking for a great hotel, well prices with parking and spa facilities in Dundee you will struggle to find a better hotel than this, plus it is only a couple of minute walk to the town centre.

Very pleasant stay. The hotel has managed to make guests feel safe without detracting from the relaxing hotel experience. Food was excellent and we feel very good value (special mention for the poached eggs) and both the room and public areas were modern and spotless. Staff all very friendly and cheerful. Thanks to all.

We stayed overnight here last week following a trip North to visit family and friends. It is our "go to" hotel in Dundee. Perfect location with a free car park. Every aspect of safety related to Covid 19 was covered. A Covid kit with mask, sanitizer and wipes etc was also provided in the room. Given the lack of open venues in the city we opted to eat in the hotel. We had a 3 course meal from the menu. It was outstanding. Breakfast was also included which was served up to 10am with a 12pm check out. Staff were welcoming and very friendly and adhered to all safety aspects in place. Social distancing was not an issue at all and we felt completely safe during our stay. Being in the shielded group the safety aspect was vitally important to myself and partner and at no time did we feel the need to be concerned. Our room was spotlessly clean and well sanitised. Towels were sealed. Gorgeous room and bathroom. We have stayed here before and can't wait to visit again when times are better. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality and amazing attention to detail.

This is a perfectly central hotel for any visiotors to Dundee as it is walking distance to the city centre. It is also well placed for the restaurants and bars at the City Quay.
It is a modern hotel and the rooms are well appointed. This should have been a 5 star review and the hotel was let down by disorganised reception staff when we were checking in. We arrived too early to check in and were happy to wait and left our luggage to be stored and agreed to return at 14:30 as advised by the receptionist. She also said that she would personally chase up housekeeping to check if it was nearly ready. On our return to the hotel at 14:30 we approached the same receptionist to be told that the room was not ready and that we would have to wait. When I questionned why it wasn't ready at 14:30 which was the check in time on our booking that, "It's FROM 14:30 and that doesn't mean that you can check in at 14:30". When I suggested that she had told us to return at this time and that she was going to PERSONALLY check that it was ready, she had no reply. We waited a further 30 minutes as I watched several people getting checked in, getting their rooms upgraded before approaching the desk again to ask when our room would be ready. The same receptionist then told me that she couldn't check the system because she "was logged off and off duty now". Needless to say I was not happy with this response and asked that she go and find someone else to deal with us actually getting checked in. Eventually she did (without any kind of apology) and we were then checked into to a totally different room. This is totally unacceptable and waiting for over 30 minutes AND realising that she hadn't even checked to see if the room was ready before going off duty or indeed asked someone else to do it for her made it so much worse. Once in the room it was evident why the rooms aren't ready on time, there seemed to be a complete lack of staff to clean rooms and those that were working aren't doing the cleaning terribly well. The room wasn't as clean as it should have been and it really should have been spotless especially at this time in a global pandemic. There were hairs on the sink and the bath, the toilet had clearly been sprayed with something but was left with streaky marks all over the toilet seat and lid. Not what I expected from a 4 star hotel. Breakfast was well organised but I had the vegetarian breakfast and the eggs weren't cooked properly and the whole meal was cool. I had hoped to speak to someone on check out as I expected to be asked if my stay was ok...I wasn't asked and no opportunity was given to provide feedback. We have stayed at this hotel previously and on this occasion I was really disappointed with our stay.

Great location, free parking, comfortable clean room. Breakfast was a let down - it issupposed to be served until 10am, however if you arrive after 9:30am items such as yoghurt, croisants etc are not replenished. At 9:50am the coffee machines were switched off and the buffet items cleared away. Surely this should not be before 10am. At £15.50 per person I expected better. I would stay here again but on a room only basis and have breakfast elsewhere.

Great hotel centrally located with lots of the local sites near at hand. Staff in the hotel are very friendly and efficient and aware of all the Covid restrictions keeping the place as clean as can be sanitising everywhere (even the seats) and arranging the seating two metres apart. Food was plentiful bordering on too much for all meals and although not fine dining was very tasty and well presented.
