I Stayed at the malmasion last night And booked a suite room the staff were lovely with a quick check in. The room itself was lovely but it was not very clean considering the current situation we are in! Thick Dust everywhere and the carpet looked like it has not been hoovered. The only room that was clean was the bathroom unsure If I would return due to this.
Spent one night here just for a change of scene due to Covid restrictions. Booked a junior suite but don't think a bath in the room classed it as a suite as there was a bath in bathroom anyway. Dinner included and breakfast in price but cooked breakfast extra. Saw plates being delivered to tables and it looked a huge plateful so probably worth £4 however don't think 2 boiled eggs and soldiers worth that. I opted for continental breakfast included in price and it was fine. Dinner menu restricted to few choices but something to suit most people. Rooms could do with some updating, wallpaper worn, bedside tables scratched etc but bed was huge and comfy.
Arriving for my stay, I was greeted so nicely. It was explained how things are working due to covid. Then we were asked about ourselves, we really felt engaged and listened to. I have stayed here before and as the last time the decoration and finish is fantastic. It really did feel like nothing was any bother. The woman who cleans the room (sorry didn’t catch her name) got us extra coffee bags and extra towels. It was nice having a bath and shower in the room. The room is dark but able to be bright if needed with good lighting. This is lovely for a romantic break. The food at night was lovely and great considering it was included in our stay, the service was fantastic. The reason for only being 4 star is the service on the 2nd day was crap. Breakfast staff left a line of us queuing outside door for over 20mins, then pretended they didn’t know we were there but a big sign on floor saying stop here. It went from bad to worse from then, I do always feel sorry for breakfast staff as they are very rarely tipped, but this set of staff defo did not want to be working that day. We constantly had to stop staff and ask for simple things that you would expect like sauce butter etc etc and then made to feel a nuisance. Then at checkout the receptionist was the same, didn’t even ask if our stay was good. It really was like 2 different stays, if it hadn’t been for fantastic staff the day before this score would have been way less. …
Hotel is beautiful, good location and rooms are stunning especially the signature suite. Stayed here for 3 nights recently and it was fab, service was good and room was beautiful as well as breakfast. Dinner could’ve been better on all occasions we ate in the restaurant the food is average tried a number of different dishes and different cuts of steak which the chef can’t cook properly as the steak on 4 occasions had been over cooked. Starters were ok as well as desserts. The main meals need improvement. Malmaison in Glasgow has much better standard of cooking. Apart from that I enjoyed my stay and will return.
Came to Dundee for a weekend gateway and a visit to the V&A. The hotel is perfectly located for that. Dale at the reception, and Sam and Scott at the restaurant gave us a very warm welcome. A special thanks for the complementary upgrade. Would highly recommend.
