This is the cleanest B&B we have ever stayed in! The service is fantastic including a little tipple of finest scotch whisky on arrival. The breakfast menu is superb and you can pick and choose to suit your own requirements. Sharon and Norrie are perfect hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them. The B&B is just a short...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with the Ramsay's. The accommodations were beautiful, Norrie greeted us and offered us a nice little dram of Whiskey (needed that!) and breakfast was excellent. We also appreciated the local tips Sharon and Norrie both shared. Norrie even helped load our luggage later on the next day AND went above and beyond assisting with our...

Sharon and Norrie were the best hosts anyone could ask for. Happy to chat and provide any information you need. They take great pride in their B&B. The rooms have everything you need for a nice stay. This was a charming B & B. Our room was spacious and comfortable. And, the proprietor was a delight . . . genuinely warm and friendly with an endless repertoire of stories he was happy to share. Breakfast was tasty and the coffee flowed like a river. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

We visited Edinburgh in early March and once again stayed at Ramsays. Once again our stay was excellent, the room was very comfortable and spotless, the breakfast was delicious and there was a good choice. Most of all we had a lovely warm welcome from the owners. We have been visiting Edinburgh annually for a number of years and would...

Have to say that Ramseys...

We stayed here for couple of days and it was the best part of our entire Scotland tour. What I liked here: - Exceptionally well maintained, well decorated place - We had a tour next day starting early morning at 8 so they packed some delicious sandwitches along with yogurt and juice for us around 7:30 - It is on...

Can highly recommend this B&B. We were very well looked after by Sharon & Norrie who provided a wealth of info about the city. Everything is spotlessly clean and tastfully decorated. We stayed in room 4 which was very peaceful overlooking the rear garden. The bed was very large and so comfortable. Breakfast was excellant with a wide and varied...

Sharon and Norrie at Ramsay’s B&B provide a magical fusion of absolute professionalism with the warmth of a friend’s welcome in their home. The spotless house is furnished to a high standard with an emphasis on the original features of their beautiful building and interesting artwork. I have stayed here with my friend and several times with my husband in...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
