My husband and I stayed here in late October for 3 nights. I was impressed by the quality of the service, rooms, and meals provided. The room was beautifully decorated, much nicer than many hotel rooms I've stayed in. And the place had a very homely feel to it. The breakfast provided had variety and was deliciously cooked. The owners,...

We stayed with Sharon and Norrie for our fifth time this week and well what can we say. Every time we have stayed at Ramsay's B&B the whole package gets better and better (food, service, cleanliness the list is endless). They have recently won the Channel 4 'Four in a Bed' competition which just goes to show the standard they...

I did not actually stay at this hotel but a friend did. I wanted to arrange a bottle of cava in the room for their arrival. As the hotel does not have a bar or facilities for credit card payments, they offered to go and buy the wine themselves without payment and for me to forward a cheque after purchase...

This little Bed and Breakfast is situated in a very central location of Edinburgh just a short walk from Bus Station and Train Station and is just a little treasure to be found, and excellent value for money. The host's (Sharon and Norrie) are just lovely and very welcoming. Through out my stay and before I arrived, I did make...

Ramsay's B&B was a great experience. Sharon and Norrie are excellent hosts combining professional attention to every detail with a sense of humour and fun. Ramsay's is well positioned for walking to most places in Edinburgh. Ramsay's is designed with style, well cared for and spotless. Our room (4) was peaceful overlooking the garden, the beds were comfortable and we...

I absolutely loved this B&B! Spent 2 nights here mid-September. Our room was bright, very clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated. I can't say enough about the cleanliness of our room, fantastic! When we came back from a day out in the city, we returned to a spotless room - it looked like we had never even been there!! Coffee, hot...

Sometimes, you are just blessed. I was! This was a great find for me. I was just looking for a clean place to rest my head. I didn't think it was possible to find a match to the last visit's B&B. I was wrong! This B&B surpassed last visits place.... And that, is saying a lot! Ramsay's B&B is in...

Ramsay's B and B was a great place to stay. Sharon and Norrie were excellent hosts, the breakfast was good and location was close enough to the main attraction in Ediburgh that we did not need to use our car. The room was very clean and comfortable and would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone.

At only 10 minutes walk to the centre of Edinburgh (taking it easy with a wee little one!), this is perfectly located to see the sights of Edinburgh. Dressed in high end modern detail, our room was amazing, with fantastic attention to detail at nice little extras (chocolates and mints at the entry to the rooms!). The hosts were great,...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
