Lovely hotel in an excellent central location at the end of Princes Street. Nice room, tea and coffee facilities, safe and fridge and good hairdryer. Good sized bathroom with large walk in shower and bath

This hotel is fantastic for trips to Edinburgh. It's at the end of Princess Street, a stones throw from the shops. We were able to enjoy all Edinburgh has to offer (the Xmas market is not to be missed!) and stumble back to the hotel in a short time. The room was spacious, clean and really comfortable. Also, despite its...

I was promised to receive the invoice by email. But I have not received it after four days I left. Perhaps it is better if you have it printed or can do so while checking out to avoid not receiving the email. In fact, I will contact the Hotel to ask for the invoice.

Two things were important - Location (as I didn't have a car) and disabled access as my daughter was using a knee scooter for ankle surgery. Location was perfect with easy and very close access to shops, supermarkets, restaurants etc along North bridge. Good WiFi availability(free) helped to get my directions and routes sorted out. There were a few stairs but access...

The Service was excellent. Check in very speedy and efficient. Booked into a family room - plenty of room for 3 girls. Had a 3 course meal in the restaurant, the food was excellent, although a bit pricey for a glass of wine. Location was excellent with a short walk to Centre of Edinburgh

Great hotel in good position close to Princess Street and with easy access to Waverley railway station. We had first class service in all areas, the staff were very friendly and gave us lots of helpful information - nothing seemed to be too much trouble. We only ate in the hotel at breakfast time and the food was excellent. Would...

The hotel is in an excellent position for sightseeing. The restaurant was exceptional value and the food was delicious. The staff were friendly and professional. The only downside was the city room was rather small although it was very clean and the bed was comfy. I would return to this hotel and perhaps upgrade.

We were in room 711 - beautiful and comfortable room. One small snag was the fact that there was loud noise during the night from what I assume was a nightclub below. I would indeed stay at the Waterloo again but would ask for a room in a quieter area of the hotel.

We decided on this hotel for a wee pre-Christmas break. Excellent central location for our requirements close to pretty much everywhere we had planned to visit. The staff were very friendly and made us most welcome.

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
