Nice hotel, but poor dinner package. The inclusive meal was so limited, we had to ask for the a la carte. That too was disappointing. Breakfast: very officious lady who was totally inflexible - she stopped an elderly lady from joining her son and daughter-in-law who were already seated - had to wait her turn to be listened to! Needn't...

Always when I'm in Edinburgh I stay in this hotel. There are never any faults and the service is amazing. Great location for any activities in Edinburgh and the breakfast is lovely. Will be coming back!

Postives Great location. Helpful/friendly staff. Room was spotless. Fast service and great food at breakfast. My wife loved the Elmis bathroom toiletries! Negatives Pool was rather cold so we never spent any time in it. No hot tub/jacuzzi. No slippers in room to go with robe when walking too and from spa. Overall a nice hotel at a good price...

We stayed at the Waterloo recently on a trip through Scotland. We were there for 4 nights. Check in was easy and painless. My only complaint at check in was I had booked this hotel because it was a VIP hotel through Expedia and when we arrived they said they couldn't upgrade us or didn't offer us even so much...

This was the first time that we stayed in this Hotel. The staff were very polite and helpful. The room was spacious and comfortable which fitted all our needs. The breakfast was very good. Would not hesitate to return.

Apex Waterloo Place Hotel served as the perfect base for our Scottish adventure. It is a perfect location in the city to be able to esplore all the history, culture, fine dining and shopping that Edinburgh offers. Our stay was most comfortable, quiet and well served. I can't say that I've ever seen a more hard working, dedicated hotel staff....

Dear jmm2 Thanks for the 5 star review, very much appreciated. It's always a pleasure to hear positive comments about the team and have their hard work recognised. As so many reviewers comment, our location is ideal and I hope that you managed to do all that you planned here in Edinburgh during your stay, if not then you'll need...

Here after staying at the balmoral hotel and let me tell you it is night and day. The front desk seem like it was the first day on the job and had no idea what they're doing they were not friendly at all and for paying 295 pounds a night expect someone to smile at me when I walk to...

Dear Thesehappymoments I'm unsure who you encountered at the front desk but I'm sorry that you did not receive a pleasant welcome or indeed much help at all by the sounds of it. This is certainly out of character as we receive many positive mentions and comments about our front of house team, most notably our Concierge Team. It's disappointing...

Stayed here while on business. Excellent location, almost opposite the Balmoral hotel. Room was very nice, good air-con (amazingly warm in Scotland for September!) Wifi fast, reliable, rooms pristine. Would definitely stay here again for business. Pleasant for tourists too.

My wife and myself spent two days in Edinburgh as part of our Insight tour. Our room was large but the view was another building across the street. I would agree with the other reviewers, if you want a view, get a room on the higher floors. The location is ideal for shopping and access to Edinburgh Castle. We were...

Dear nsoldgoat Many thanks for the review. Our building is over 10 floors and is on a hillside which results in a lack of a rooftop view from a number of rooms. As many reviewers comment, our location is fantastic for exploring Edinburgh on foot, ideal for transport links and also for local attractions and shopping. August is a busy...

Just returned from a five day stay at this hotel and was pretty impressed. The hotel is in a great location that is close to everything but in a quiet area, we were comfortable able to walk to most locations on our to do list in under 30 minutes and the airport tram platform is a 5 minute walk. Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
