Had a fantastic overnight stay in the wonderful Howard. This was my second overnight stay, the last one being five years ago, and the hotel still does not disappoint. The staff are so attentive without being overbearing and almost preempt your questions and needs with courtesy and good humour. I ate dinner in the intimate dining room and all courses...

Just returned from a 2 night stay at The Howard. A beautiful, small hotel approx 10-15 min walk to the very centre of Edinburgh. We stayed in a terrace suite.. a very large suite, king bed and huge bathroom with double shower and bath. Food at the hotel comes highly recommended, both breakfast and evening meals, after our first night...

We chose the hotel for our one night stay based on other reviews and were not disappointed. The location was excellent and service from all of the staff was first rate. Our room was spacious and very well presented and breakfast and evening meal were delicious. Top marks to The Howard team for such a welcoming stay!

Recently stayed in The Howard on a couples weekend away and cannot recommend the hotel highly enough. The service at the hotel is close to the best I have ever experienced. The staff were friendly, attentive and more than happy to help. Opted for breakfast which is a choice definitely not regretted. The parking facilities are great and very convenient....

This break was almost perfect. We arrived to be informed our standard suite had been upgraded to an absolutely beautiful junior suite, with a cavernous bathroom and gorgeous lounge/reception area. Extra complimentary services for the room were amazing, including tea and coffee on call all day every day, breakfast in bed and even ironing. The room was spotless, the bed...

Just back from a weekend in Edinburgh with family. With 5 of us it's always a problem getting rooms to suit. The Howard Mews was just perfect for us. The hotel itself again was perfect, the breakfast was delicious and the staff were so attentive and nothing was too much trouble. 10 minute walk to Princes Street. Will definitely be...

Lovely Hotel, especially for that special occasion - just made our honeymoon! Lovely suite, fab breakfast and great service. The hotel is close to the centre, in amongst the art galleries and shops but there is a walk uphill so if you have difficulty walking this hotel perhaps isn't in the best place for you!

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
