We spent 3 nights at the Edinburgh backpackers hostel, we stayed in a private room which was separate to the main building with a shared bathroom. The room although basic was cosy and comfortable with good access to the shared bathroom. The location was fantastic and Jade was such a big help whilst there, she was extremely friendly and gave us helpful trips and directions to make the most of our time. Whilst breakfast wasn't included at the hotel there was an option to go next door to the local Cafe with a hostel discount or a kitchen available in both buildings which was handy. We had a great stay at the hostel and would recommend it for budget travellers and couples!

Good price and fantastic location. Unfortunately, the staff are lazy and seemingly everywhere. I never once went into the kitchen (small), common room, or tv lounge without staff already monopolizing the area. They close the kitchen at random times for cleaning (20-30 minutes before the listed cleaning period?) I often heard the staff blasting music between 2-4am while doing laundry in the reception? The place is clean and safe but there's a million hostels around the same price and good location with out such annoying staff

Thank-you for taking the time to leave a review. I’m sorry to see that you felt so negatively towards our staff. In the week that you stayed with us, you never once came to speak management about any of your concerns. As you can see from our high ratings on Tripadvisor and Hostelworld.com we pride ourselves on being kind, helpful, respectful and available to all of our guests. During your stay the hostel was at full capacity on your first 2 nights and at 80% capacity for the remainder of your stay. I’m unsure how you have come to the conclusion that it was only staff using the common rooms in a hostel that has space for over 180 guests. Maybe smaller hostels, not aimed at partying and socialising would be more suitable to your needs. Happy Travels

Stayed there for one night. Our room was located in a different building than a reception. Booked room for two, we had shared bathroom and tiny self catering kitchen. It's an old building right in the city centre and it has it's own character, so if you are expecting a spacious halls and rooms - look somewhere else. However we enjoyed our stay, surprisingly we managed to park our car on street, but it might be a struggle on weekdays. Staff very friendly and relaxed.

Booked a single room which was basically a cell with a bed. 1/2 block from Royal Mile. TV room and a lounge which were quite nice, and a shared kitchen. Bathrooms were clean but a bit weird as its a very old building. I had to stay around the corner in the “Annex” which is down a creepy “close”. Laundry was 7 pounds and was done by the staff. The coffee shop they recommend closes very early, but Starbucks is 1 block away. Very noisy! Not sure I would stay here again, but the price was okay.

Amazing hostel! Rooms clean (thank god!!) bathrooms aplenty, wifi strong, amazing recommendations for nearby cafes, restaurants, pubs and walking tours; the pub crawl was particularly amazing led by the incredibly charismatic and friendly Sergio!
The lady at the reception desk (Jade, I think she was the manager?) was so friendly and helpful, I cannot recommend her or this hostel enough! Such a brilliant location too!
Thank lerrey6

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the

There are free hairdryers located in the communal female bathrooms. If you are staying in a private room you can borrow a hairdryer from reception for free, you just need to pay a £5 deposit
