When I saw where this hotel was located, I was very curious, as this used to be the roughest part of Edinburgh! Upon arrival I couldn't believe the transformation of the Leith area of the city. The receptionist was friendly, but I struggled to focus on her accent, which was not English.... The room was comfortable, but very warm and...

Dear Brian E Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review of Malmaison Edinburgh. We stayed in room 114 for 2 nights in the weekends meal and cocktail package. Both of us are in the catering industry. Hotel is lovely and so were all the staff. The room was ideal but a small bathroom. Only dissapointing thing is there was no view and the bedroom windows are frosted over. Which made the room dark...

I stayed for 2 nights at the Leith Mal with family as my sister was getting married in Edinburgh. Check in was fine but for my two other members of my family the rooms weren't ready and they weren't expecting clean bedding to arrive until 7. A member of our party was dissatisfied with her room but told there were...

We have stayed at many of the Malmaison hotels and this one did have the high standards of the others . The receptionists were not particularly friendly or helpful and the bar was very boring . The food is always similar , popular dishes like steaks , burgers etc . The location is good , in the up and coming...

Looked forward to staying at a "Malmaison" because I have always admired their rehabilitation of old buildings thus maintaining the architectural continuity of the area. The staff were very helpful & the bar & restaurant area had lots of character, however, my biggest disappointment was the bed. For me it was the most uncomfortable hotel bed I have ever slept,...

Dear Baccarat Thank you for taking the time to write your review of Malmaison Edinburgh. I am pleased to read that you are a fan of Malmaison in the way we rehabilitate old buildings into our wonderful hotels. Lovely room (420) , excellent staff and good food. The cleanliness of the hotel is first class and the location is great with a good choice of bars and restaurants close by. The cocktails in the bar are good value and the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome.

Visited last week for a weekend stay during a wedding. Well finished room but felt the bath/shower was a little basic for the price. Otherwise, all as you expect. As mentioned by Andrew T, the Dundee hotel is probably the pick of the bunch though.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
It's the mother of all Malmaison's. The former house of ill-repute now has a reputation that's second to none, and it's also just a short taxi ride away from Waverley Station. Malmaison Edinburgh bides at Leith (as they say up here), just a stone's throw from the Royal Yacht Britannia, but offering far more funky luxury. Yes, when you want exciting hotels in Edinburgh, this is the King, not the castle. Our Edinburgh hotel puts you close to all of Edinburgh's cobbled splendours, incredible shopping and famous galleries. Then it's back to Mal for Scots dining with a twist, a fine selection of single malts and mojitos in the bar and then back to the slinkiest and most spectacular rooms in the Scots capital. ... more   less
