The quality of the only dinner we had at the club was not satisfactory. Bothe the quality of the food and in particular the presentation of the dishes were below standard. However, the breakfasts we had were splendid - good presentations, good quality of food and excellent service. As all the other experiences of the club were so positive it...

This was our first time in Edinburgh. We had zero background about Scotland & anything Scottish. Our travel agent booked us into this hotel and we couldn't be more pleased. From the outside it looks like a row of apartments, nothing fancy. The lobby/front desk area is small but functional (with a computer & printer for getting boarding-passes). The staff...

Beautiful views on the park, the building has lots of history and is easy walking distance to Old Town. It is surrounded by many trendy restaurants and art galleries. I would stay here again in a heart-beat.

Rooms are tired and bathrooms old. I know its a small thing but when you are paying over £100 per night its nice to get proper toiletries rather than shampoo and shower gel in a dispenser (even if it is good quality). For the price I have stayed in much better accommodation in Edinburgh. The staff however are very friendly...

Beautiful place, clean and comfortable . The only "difficult" thing was to find rooms . You get lost going up and down by the stairway and lift. Elegant and interesting. Close to points of interest. Miss the frigobar in the room. They take care of transport to and for the airport and ammenities if you ask the receptionist. Really like...

We stumbled upon a gem of a hotel thanks to our travel agent. Situated in the heart of Edinburgh, this hotel made my mom and I feel like royalty for 5 nights. We stayed in a recently renovated room with a four poster bed, lovely sitting area and a spacious bathroom with a claw foot tub. Everything about this hotel...

My mom and I spent 3 nights at the Royal Scots Club. It was a great base to explore the city on foot while staying on a quiet street across from a park. Parking is a challenge if you have a rental car - a good 15 minute walk to park in a public parkade. The room was comfortable and...

Very well placed for sightseeing , it was being refurbished when we arrived. Staff very helpful and could not do enough for us. It was my birthday and we had a lovely room with a view. Lovely breakfast and they do not allow mobile phone use during the sitting which was admirable . However a young couple could not bear...

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
