Room 508, 2 nights. Pros: 1. Central location between New Town and Old Town. Currency exchange downstairs, lots of public transport, food and shops nearby. The Airlink Airport Express bus takes you very close!!! 2. Our room had an excellent view of the Scott monument and Old Town. 3. Comfortable bed. 4. Main floor bar has a good selection of...

I was booked into the hotel by work. As I checked in I was asked for a £25 key deposit, my mind couldn't work this out, we had paid over the odds for the room and the key ring was massive, i could hardly carry it let alone lose it!! Anyway I coughed up mostly out of shock but by...

The hotel is situated in one of the main streets. Bus stop 50mtrs Railway station 100mtrs, Tram stop 150mtrs. Hotel old looking out side but clean and modern inside. Staff all very pleasant and very helpful. Food available in the bar or restaurant, used both, food very good. Almost missed the single doorway entrance! ! 20+ stairs to reception desk....

- There are two sets of doors really heavy and narrow plus two sets of stairs to access the reception which are not easily practicable with a wheelchair or a pram. - The staff was nice and polite. - However: we were supposed to dine in the restaurant, but due to a large group eating there for a party, we...

This was booked by my wife as a surprise night away for my birthday.. The hotel is in a very convenient location for the station and local sites/shops etc. The hotel from the outside looks dated and a little run down. To get to reception there are stairs with no lift. Staff were not the most helpful at check in,...

Returned after five years. Hotel has been well-kept up, indeed some painting was going on while we were there. The restaurant served up an excellent meal on our first of two nights, and the waiting staff in both the restaurant and bar were very courteous and professional.

Too much small room for the price you pay. Excellent dining room views. The best is to be in the center, close to all walking. Needs some works to fix small defects, such as, noise doors, noise windows isolate, ... .

A 2 minute walk from the Railway station and just across the road from Waverley Bridge where you get on the hop on hop off bus tours, this hotel is in a great location. If you have restricted mobility the entrance is a little difficult to negotiate with narrow passages and quite a few steps up to reception, though there...

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
