Although a little tired the room was big and airy, very clean with a great view of the castle. We ate at the restaurant and the food was delicious, staff were very friendly and attentive. Great position and just across the road from Waverley train station.

the only thing going for this hotel is where it is. situated ideally close to the major train station, with the red tour bus stop right outside the door, it is in the main street of Edinburgh. it is an ancient building, in dire need of an interior renovation, as the carpet seemed to be older than i was, however...

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here at the Mercure on Prince's Street. The location is perfect, over the road from Waverley train station with views over the Scott Memorial and up to the Castle, right next to Jenner's department store and a stone's throw from excellent restaurants. We booked one of the Superior rooms on the top floor with...

Centrally located on Princes Street & only minutes walking distance from Waverley railway station. All the rooms overlooking Princes Street will include views of the castle. Our room was clean & tidy, but like the rest of the interior space in the hotel it is in need of refurbishment, it's all looking very worn & outdated. Even though our room...

We stayed for one night last week. The hotel is in a great location, right near the railway station on Princes Street. On arriving from street level you go upstairs to reception. Our room was ready at 12.30pm and checik in was swift and friendly. Then we saw our room. It was really tired, with an awful view of fire...

Hotel is close to train station and right beside shops etc. I had a castle view room, view was lovely however that's where the compliments end. Hotel is tired and somewhat dated, room was very dusty, bedside shelf was particularly bad. Bathroom needs revamped along with rest of room to be fair. Breakfast was uninspired and just warm. Scrambled eggs...

This hotel is ideally located for a city break, walking distance of all the sites and public transport links. Food is lovely and the bar is bright and spacious with great views of the castle. Rooms are s little small that's why I didn't give 5 stars, but great hotel. Friendly staff.

Let's get this out the way now. This place is tired in every measure of a hotel so use that as your starting point. It's basic, clean and convenient - a pleasure though, it is not. Right, now that's done we can add a little more context. The hotel is very well located in amongst the hustle and bustle of...

We had an overall lovely stay but there where a few things in the room and with our food that weren't as good and felt could be improved upon. This was a gift for our wedding anniversary from my mum so we were keen to ensure everything was perfect for our stay. The staff were all lovely but seemed so...

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
