We were booked into this hotel by our tour group company. Our room was 455 which is located on the Princes Street side of the hotel. Be advised that this is a very busy street and you may be bothered by the noise of the buses, trolleys and people on the street. We were on the fourth floor and there...

The hotel is situated in Princess street and you have walking distance to the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle plus a lot of Nice restaurants and shops. We went as a group of colleges and had a great stay during the weekend. Friendly staff, nice breakfast and clean rooms. The rooms were of different sizes and standards, maybe the only negative...

First time in 40 years a hotel has accused me of lying! Upon check in, the receptionist asked me if I wanted to pay now or just leave my credit card. As usual to save time on checkout I opted to pay now. I asked about dinner and was told it was £18 pre booked or £22 otherwise. I also...

Expensive and disappointing. Reception staff rude, I wouldn't go back to this tired hotel. Badly needs a face lift. Noisy , couldn't sleep. Bed uncomfortable. Ran out of hot foot for breakfast. Won't be returning.

In fairness this was just an over night stop with breakfast, therefore I cannot comment on the facilities. I found my room a little cramped and dated - the door was so narrow that the room service maid had the enter sideways with a tray!. My company paid - perhaps there were better rooms. The bed - not that comfortable...

Was indeed looking forward to the view to the castle that was on the photons from the hotel's web, but obviously not for me. Noisy ventilation and with a view to the gray backyard. Personnel friendly, and very centrally located.

We stayed at the Mercure in Edinburgh - Princes Street in September 2016. We had the upgraded room and as such received a 6th floor room - the views out to Princes Street, the gardens, and the castle. We found the hotel a bit run down for what we expected for a Mercure, the service was okay depending on who...

This hotel benefits from helpful staff and from excellent views of Princes Street. If people-watching is your forte, you will love to gaze out of the windows onto Edinburgh's busiest street. Food is good. However, bedrooms could benefit from updating.

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
