Used the Mercure to stop over to catch a train back to London the next day so a brief stay. The room was warm and comfortable if a little tired. Good wifi, comfortable bed, tending to the firm which I prefer. The tea/coffee offering was a little light but decent. We got back to the room quite late so weren't...

Spent one night here, easy to get to from the airport, via the tram and close to Waverley Station. Nice quiet room - at the rear of the hotel, Ate in the restaurant with a view over to the castle. Food and service very good. Breakfast offered plenty of choice. Would stay here again.

A group of 6 of us stayed at the hotel for one night at the end of another holiday. We arranged to meet friends there for coffee. What a shabby and poor place. The reception was jammed and the resteraunt seemed to think it was unusual for people to stop by for coffee at 11 in the morning. The tables were dirty and the chairs well passed their sell by date. The carpets Were old and worn and it...

This hotel is in a very convenient place and I have no issues with the cleanliness of the rooms but it is well past it's sell by date. The rooms and common parts need a thorough refresh with replacement fixtures and fittings. If possible consideration should be given to installation of air conditioning as the rooms were hot and stuffy...

This hotel is in a prime location. Princes Street is the busiest street so very hand to Royal Mile, castles, restaurants and shopping.. Staff were friendly and helpful.Rooms are fairly small but no smaller than most Scotland hotels and B & B's. would stay here anytime.

This hotel might be in the center of all the action, but it is really horrid. There is a bus stop directly in front of the hotel and the cigarette smoke from the bus stop pours into the building. You go up a flight of stairs to the front desk. Our group had horrible rooms, no one could get an...

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
