We stayed here for 2 nights and from the moment we arrived we were impressed. The staff were helpful and friendly, and the room was very well equipped with amazing views. Breakfast was delicious and is served until 12 midday which is very civilised. My gluten free diet was accommodated very well. Slippers, robe and lovely toiletries all help to...

We spent the weekend in Edinburgh for my birthday. Was met at the reception by Janice, she was lovely and gave us the low down of places to go and I was able to check the bookings that I had made prior to arriving where good choices so that was very helpful. We stayed in Room 9, which was nice...

Nearly always stay in the apartment, it's perfect for me. Great to work from when I'm staying is Edinburgh and it's own front door is ideal. However, it's the staff which make this hotel very special, it's home from home. Although not a restaurant, I like the inclusion of a simple choice of evening meal in the bar. Perfect for...

We stayed here for 3 nights on our first trip to Edinburgh and could not be more impressed. On arrival the place looks amazing and was far beyond our expectations. The staff were so helpful. They wrote down some restaurant recommendations for us and went to the effort of circling them all on a map of the city. (The recommendations...

From the moment we walked in, the staff were incredibly helpful, polite and well-informed. The famous collection of modern art adorning the stairwell was impressive, although I'm too much of a philistine to appreciate it as much as it deserves. The room was almost perfect, large, well-decorated and well-appointed with everything we could have needed. It was so quiet that...

Booked the 24 through Trip Advisor as the reviews were very good and it certainly didn't disappoint. The rooms are big, we went for a deluxe with a bath which was lovely. Room came with all necessities including bottled water and hairdryer! The staff are all very welcoming and friendly. In a great location, will definitely be staying here again.

I had a one night stay in Edinburgh and as I was travelling alone, just needed a single room. I had previously stayed at other hotels with TripAdvisor ratings of Excellent, but noticed from TripAdvisor that 24 Royal Terrace appeared to be a high quality establishment, was close to the centre of Edinburgh and was very good value. The standard...

Stayed for a short break and what a delight. Situated on the Royal Terrace a a relative easy walk from many of the attractions Edinburgh has to offer. The staff were attentive, friendly and efficient. The artwork adorning the walls are interesting and add to the individual feel of this hotel. Breakfast was generous and beautifully cooked with fresh ingredients....

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
24 Royal Terrace is a new hotel on one of Edinburgh’s most iconic Georgian terraces. Designed by the famous architect William Playfair in the 1820s, the 16-bedroom hotel retains the original architectural features of the building whilst introducing a bold contemporary interior design. Situated in close proximity to the town centre, the hotel backs onto the Royal Gardens of Holyrood Palace and Calton Hill with commanding views across to the Firth of Forth. All rooms offer beautiful views, either of the hotel’s garden or onto the majestic Royal Terrace itself. Suited to both business and leisure guests, the rooms vary from spacious apartment suites to affordable single rooms. Our elegant rooms are designed for comfort and relaxation with stylish contemporary fabrics, heavenly beds, White Company toiletries, plump white towels and Egyptian cotton sheets. Mixing the old with the new, the suites comprise antique furniture with modern touches. Some rooms feature cast iron baths in the bedroom, whilst others have rain showers in the bathroom. All bedrooms offer wireless and wired internet connection to ensure guests can tap into our high speed internet, have Samsung Smart TVs fitted with amplified Soundbars and Apple Airport Express, enabling guests to stream audio and video from their own devices or from their NetFlix accounts, plus USB power sockets for charging devices. The entertainment isn’t limited to the bedroom; in the en-suite bathrooms, guests can control their music from a keypad to play over high quality Blucube speakers. The hotel features a private, original art collection including works by Scottish artists John Bellany, Peter Howson, Steven Campbell, Henry Kondracki and John Bratby. 24 Royal Terrace’s facilities include rt’s bar, a stylish meeting point for guests serving a carefully selected menu, from Scottish and continental breakfast in the morning, to tapas in the evening. A champagne afternoon tea is also on offer at rt’s between 2 and 5pm daily. rt’s serves a fine range of whiskies, playing to Royal Terrace’s historical nickname, ‘Whisky Row’, a reference to the number of spirit merchants who lived on the terrace when it was newly built. ... more   less
