Booked here at short notice. After receiving key I went down to room. WoW is the word for how disgusting the bedding was there was stains all over it, plus I had to kill 5 bluebottles before checking rest of room. Never again will I come here. I am glad that they wanted a cash transaction in the morning as...

Thank you for your review..but we are a bit confused as why you stayed if it was bad. We wash all bedding in house and if you thought it wasn`t clean all you had to do is say and we would have gladly changed it for you. As for blue bottles...that also confuses us as we have never seen one...

Pros : Compact & Clean Room, Good Bed, Quiet, Good Location, Good Basic Breakfast, Coffee / Tea Making Facility, friendly and helpful staff. Cons : WiFi speed too low to Skype but that could be own Mac Pro 'reaction' at this location but had no problems later from other Networks ( Cloud, 02, Apple Store, Princes St. ).

Positive points: central position, only 10 minutes walk to the heart of the city; restaurants and a Tesco nearby, very friendly staff, good wifi, clean and large room, and breakfast with continental (little option) or cooked on demand versions (I liked their porridge). And staff, I want to tell it twice! Negative points: No elevator, the triple room has a...

Very nice little hotel, very conveniently located, close to sights. Very friendly staff, great breakfast. Clean, nice rooms, coffee maker in room. Easy to find parking on the street just in front of the hotel. Would definitely recommend friends to stay here!

A charming hotel within walking distance of Edinburgh City centre, Waverley Station, City Sightseeing Tours, restaurants etc but be warned Edinburgh is built on a hill which needs to be negotiated. There are, however, bus stops at the end of the road. The hotel itself is a Georgian Town House built around 1820 and doesn't have the convenience of a...

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights. The hotel is relatively close/within walking distance to the Edinburgh bus station, Rabbie's meeting point and the North Bridge/Princes Street. It is up a small hill, so careful with your luggage! There are several restaurants nearby, as well as a Tesco express. The room was spacious and clean. From my point of...

Overall a good place to stay. Very quiet and a good location within walking distance of many sites. Staff were kind and helpful. There is a lovely garden in the back of the apartment which we also enjoyed.

This is a nice location closer in to New Town with ease of access to Waverly Train Station.I had requested a double room and we actually got a triple. A large room with lots of sunlight, comfortable bed and quite clean. The Staff, Debora and Paul were friendly and accommodating. The breakfast featured the traditional haggis with sausage and made...

I was told the room had a bath however the bath taps were so near the wall and turned off so tightly that I could not run a bath. I had to have a shower which was annoying as I had to buy a shower hat and shower gel which I would have packed if I'd known this. When trying...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
